R-r-r-ritmo con ache para que baila mi gente!!! This is the best sentiment for my experiences here. A recent Unilocal Talk post inspired me to review this club. I enjoy salsa lessons; and, visiting this spot took me back to my grandmother’s den, where my sisters and I would incessantly dance to all her vinyls while she would correct our ‘gringa’ versions of the lyrics that we would sing. I may not have gotten the language right, but I sure had the rhythm… and so did«Soulsa» salsa nights. Granted, it has been a couple of years since I’ve frequented the place formerly known as Bar Nun, but those were some of the best nights out. All of the instructors were cool & friendly people, and the atmosphere was full of vibrant life. It just makes one appreciate the diversity in DC that much more.

A couple years ago my fiancé(girlfriend back then) and I went to a friend’s surprise birthday party that was given at another couples house alot of coordination and planning involved in that all by itself. So the party was a success great wonderful a big thank you to the host and good job to those who planned it. So now it’s midnight and a bunch of us would like to go dancing and keep the party going the house hosts bowed out because they had an early flight the next morning or something like that. So B-day boy and his girlfriend had heard about this place on U street not to far away about 5 minuet drive, and wanted to check it out. It’s called Bar Nun. Uh… Bar Who? Now I know that I have been out of the DC party scene for a little while and definitely the U street scene for at least the past few years. But I said, yeah sure sounds good to me okay I’m always up for someplace new. We go there in a convoy of cars. Now we must find parking for three cars around this place, Uugh!!! Now I know why I don’t come down this way that often. We finally park and walk in the cold three blocks(Mid January) to the entrance. «Tventi dallors! said the stern faced woman at the door with a heavy eastern European accent. «For the both of us right? I questioned. NO! she said«par perzon». Ohh, kinda expensive but I’m no party pooper, so in we went downstairs small kinda dark. One large bar area and one micro bar and some over price roped off bottle service sofas. People dancing in the dark close so close hard to tell the men from the women, Huh, did I just see a woman nearly topless dancing against the wall? Nah. Music not my taste kinda of hippidy hoppish, more people dancing closer. Oh wow?!? That gal over there must of forgotten which one of those two guys is her date because she was sucking face with the both of them just now. Oh well, that’s what happens when you get drunk as a sunk. More people crowd in and the atmosphere is starting to get a little more freaky as the night wears on. Hey, whats in this drink? Very strong observes my girlfriend. It should be cost enough. Then girlfriend wanted to dance so we dance trying to make the most of it cause this place wasn’t exactly our cup of tea. Suddenly another couple dancing next to us turned to join in ookaay that’s fine, but what wasn’t fine the other girl started to grab and feel up my girl friend… WHOA!!! What’s going on here??? Freaked out my girlfriend took me by surprise, girlfriend pull away quickly I looked around and saw a lot of couples coupling with each other. NO this is really NOT our cup of tea or coffee or anything else. Little did we know that Bar Nun was a swingers club. Our friends who wanted to check the place out didn’t know of this either. Needless to say we all made our way to the doors. Definitely not for us. But if you are the type who puts the GER in SWINGER baby and you are into very alternative free love then go for it and get your freak on. I think anybody could easily«hook up» in there. We won’t be going back.
