Had this spot bookmarked on my list for quite sometime and finally made it in mid afternoon Sunday. There was barely anyone inside but I would assume it gets packed during lunch rush. Their space is small and seating is limited. It was warm enough for me to enjoy my sandwich outside so this wasn’t an issue. Menu is rather small although this didn’t take away from the flavor. It’s basically 5 – 7 sandwich options and then milkshakes. Via the photos I had seen I thought my sandwich was going to be HUGE and stuffed full. It was indeed a large portion but nothing out of the ordinary. A hamburger sized bun with sliced turkey, avocado, lettuce, Etc. and this sauce that was spicy mayo I believe. My sandwich was delicious but nothing overly praiseworthy. I wish the bun was toasted Good lunch spot in Chinatown. A little off the beaten path. Everyone wandering around outside was curious by their name. Not extremely advertised and the place is somewhat mysterious on the corner of 6 and H.

Two and a half stars. Half a dozen seats or so inside the small shop. Service was alright, except for the part where my sandwich had no kick to it– should I have expected to manually doctor in the advertised jalapeño sauce myself before leaving? Two guys behind the counter and only two other customers in line that night. Can’t help but feel some takeout disappointment. A pile of meat, a couple medium onion rings, and a slice of cheese on a decent bun with some Wise sauce: eh. A step up from Arby’s, yes… but at that price point, I could have gone to Jetties or Taylor Gourmet for a bit more flavor in equally filling portions. Their roast beef and turkey must be where it’s at, because the thinly sliced corned beef was just okay; maybe a side of mac & cheese would help too.

Finally got around to trying Beef n Bread after much procrastination. I got the veggie sandwich sans the sauces and added turkey to make it more fancy! It was pretty darn good and I love how stuffed the sandwich gets. I’m not one for sauces on sandwiches so I’m glad I left that out — I still got to taste the sauces as they leave condiments out on the table. It was alright, nothing to write home about, just like the added turkey. I will write home about the freshly toasted sesame bun though! That was the highlight of my meal. I’m probably just gonna get the veggie sandwich without the turkey the next time I come back. Solid place nonetheless!

Easily the tastiest roast beef I’ve had in DC. Customer service could be a lot friendlier and more attentive, especially considering there were at least 4 employees behind the counter not seeming to be doing anything when I waited to place my order. But an amazing sandwich trumps it all! My friend and I commented on how good the bun was and how tender and juicy the roast beef was! But when your name is Beef N Bread you better do those two things right! I had the Chinatown beef and it was such a great combination of flavors and textures! Sprouts, avocado, hoisin sauce! I’m drooling all over again and ready to go back for more.

This is a great place to grab a quick sandwich! The restaurant is small and most of the seats are stools facing the window. This place stood out compared to the other restaurants around the area. It didn’t have a sign in Chinese. Everything seemed so good on the menu, but ended up getting the Cali Beef. Cali Beef: Roast beef with bacon and avocado. That’s already a great combination! The bread was toasty and soft. It had a brioche-like texture. The bacon was crispy, and the avocado and jalapeño sauce was creamy. It was a mixture of texture. The first bite was really flavorful. The roast beef was seasoned nicely. The sandwich looked small, but it was really filling. Overall, the sandwiches were really good, but pricey. I recommend adding the sauces they have laying on the table. The wise sauce(pinkish color) and jalapeño sauce(greenish color) made the sandwich tastier. I would come back again and try their other sandwiches.

Beef N Bread is a hidden gem in Chinatown that delivers! I was craving a quick late night bite, when Unilocal suggested this place in the area. Sandwiches are fresh and made to order. The meat is sliced thin and packed in! I ordered the DC Turkey which came loaded with avocado, lettuce, tomato, muenster cheese, and jalapeño sauce. I absolutely loved the jalapeño sauce! The mayo base definitely helps the spice be more subtle. I gave my sandwich a 10⁄10. Delicious to the very last bite! Beef N Bread also offers a variety of their own fresh juices. I didn’t order any on this particular visit, but it definitely caught my eye for next time. Overall, Beef N Bread is definitely a spot I’d recommended to friend or visit the next time I am back in town. Quality food with lots of options for every meat(and non-meat) lover out there!

I love a good hole-in-the-wall. Granted, this place is brand new, but it’s still got that homey feel. It’s a roast beef(and turkey and corned beef) shop from the Wiseguys team, so I hoped it would be good. And I was not disappointed. It was great. I’ve had the Boston Beef(roast beef, muenster cheese, horseradish sauce, BBQ sauce) and the Kansas City(roast beef, onion rings, muenster, Kansas style BBQ, Wise sauce). Both were delicious, but I actually prefer the Boston — I’m a sucker for horseradish! But the onion ring was a pleasant addition to the Kansas City. The bun holds up nicely, even if you take the sandwich to go like I normally do. Roast beef is a great comfort food, so I’ve stopped by several times for nostalgia. You just can’t get good, fast food roast beef anymore.(Anyone been to Arby’s lately? That is NOT roast beef!) Do yourself a favor and get over to Beef N Bread! Just don’t bring all of your friends at once. There are only a few seats inside(like 4) and then a few tables outside, so you might need to make it a to-go order!

When Beef n Bread opened up in the Chinatown area, it totally changed the lunch scene. I gripe about the lackluster Chinese restaurants, the sloppy service of well-known chain restaurants, and the hit-or-miss food trucks parked outside the art museum. This raised the bar. The sandwich is monstrous. We’re talking about stacks and stacks of meat and meat, and vegetables and then it’s all blanketed with a crazy creamy sauce. I am writing this review as my mouth is coated with grease and sauce. The interior is tight, so be prepared for an uncomfortable wait during the lunch rush. There is little to no seating, but with a sandwich this good, it’ll be devoured whether you’re standing or squatting curb side.

Decided to stop in for dinner since reviews of this place were so great and it was a newer shop in the area. Pretty simple joint concise paper menu essentially beef and bread lol. No frills no extra stuff. Straight forward. they even have veggie options. Or Turkey for those watching the waistline. I have to say a lot of the sandwiches sound delicious but I decided to keep it simple with the Kansas City which was roast beef, BBQ sauce, wise sauce, onion rings and munster cheese. The bf decided to get the 6th street: corned beef, onion rings, munester cheese, wise sauce and jalapeño sauce, he had been craving corned beef. All the sandwiches come with a toasted sesame bun. Sandwiches were delicious the meats were thinly sliced probably paper then we decided to leave the meat in the sandwiches versus inspection. Bun was nicely toasted. The real star was the jalapeño sauce. My sandwich didn’t come with it but the BF’s did and lucky for me it was in a squeeze bottle on the table. HOLYCOW… it just needs to be on every sandwich its literally an awesome sauce. They do offer some fresh pressed juices… the bf tried the kale and apple and wasn’t highly impressed an acquired taste really but he did love the strawberry lemonade they had it was very refreshing. Overall…a down right awesome sandwich and if your craving thinly sliced meats that aren’t processed. I recommend it.

I almost never walk up this way for lunch, and that’s been my mistake. Clearly I’m going to have to start detouring toward Chinatown — because this place is just THAT good. I was bored with the usual, so I decided to look on Unilocal for something that might be a break from the ordinary, and did I ever get it. Beef ‘n Bread is definitely different, and in a good way. If you’re thinking that it’s «just another sandwich place», you’re missing out. There’s a lot of options here for everyone in your group. Veggie only, lots of meat, a mix of the two — it’s all here. I had a Penn Quarter(corned beef) with a side of mac and cheese and a specialty drink(I had ordered Kale and Apple, but ended up with Strawberry and Lime, which I’ll get to in a moment). It was nearly 16 dollars. That’s a lot of money for my budget. But — whoa. Was it ever worth it. The sandwich was piled high with corned beef, slaw and sauce on a delicious soft seeded bun. Every bite was pure perfection — it wasn’t too salty, the sauce complimented the meat well, and the slaw was nice and crunchy, just the way it should be. I’m so glad that the bread was soft — a hard, crusty roll would have ruined this. If I’d just had this, I would have been a happy camper. But, no — there was more. More! That mac and cheese of theirs. Lord have MERCY. I can’t disagree MORE with the person that said«meh» for the mac and cheese. This is probably the best I’ve ever had outside of my own recipe. If you’re expecting sloppy, gluey cheese covered pasta, keep walking. If you’re expecting the baked kind with lots of peppery spice and crunchy topping, this will be heaven for you. And it was quite a generous portion for the price, too. Is it a little greasy? Yes, just a bit, but home-styled baked mac and cheese, it’s hard to avoid that. It’s not at all overwhelming. What it IS is delicious. The Kale and Apple drink, I didn’t like it — but that’s because I tasted way more kale than apple in it. If you love kale(I don’t, honestly), you’ll love this. I substituted the Strawberry and Lime, which was MUCH better — not too sweet or overpowering, but not at all dull or bland. This meal was absolute perfection all the way around. When you walk down 6th Street muttering, «OMFG. That was SOFREAKINGGOOD» to yourself every third step — it was perfection. I don’t care who you are. Service was fine. It wasn’t really that busy in there when I came, but that could be because it’s 2 days before Thanksgiving and a lot of people aren’t here to partake. I’m okay with that, trust me. More for me. The place IS small. I dined in today, but I don’t expect that to be a habit. There really are only six or so seats. But the view is really nice if you do have an opportunity to sit in. They have outside seating, too. You’d best believe I grabbed a few menus to take back to work. I will definitely be back to try the other sandwiches on the menu. And the salads. And you already KNOW I’m coming back for that mac. The best lunch I’ve had in D.C. in QUITE a while!

If we were just rating the food, I’d give it a 5-star rating. The roast beef is perfectly cut and prepared and the Cali and Chinatown sandwich were amazing! The only thing that’s a 4-star rating is the atmosphere. It only seats six people so expect to just grab and go. The ceilings are low too and a little dirty. Overall, if you’re in Chinatown, definitely stop by for an amazing roast beef sandwich!

After several years of the empty video shop, they finally turned this location around into a food business! $ 8.99 for a sandwich might be pricey to some, but keep in mind there are not many restaurants in the Gallery area catered to beef. I shared the Cali Beef with my boyfriend as an appetizer after supporting my friend in a 5k Cancer Run. The meat was hot fresh, not cold deli meat. If you’re craving for some bbq or corned beef, recommend hitting this place up. I tried a bite of my friend’s Kansas City sandwich, which won me over as I have more of a sweet tooth and love bbq sauce. Definitely will be making a return!

¼ lb sandwich? + chips + bottle of cheerwine — ~15 bucks. I really like the sandwich, I don’t love it as much as roast beef sandwiches i’ve had in the past, or it’s kissing cousin the Pit Beef sandwich(which only exists in Baltimore, why does DC hate me so). It’s not a sandwich to write home about. I imagine this is how Arby’s started, and then it just fell off entirely into a place almost as hated as much as Long John Silver’s or Arthur Treacher’s. My bee… issue is with the value proposition. I’m sure the landlord is juicing them for rent, but there are lower end sandwiches close by(Potbelly), artisan level sandwiches at Taylor, and pricier options at the Lobster Sandwich place. Give me a reason to spend this money. That or make the chips in house(willing to bet getting permission for a fryer is a problem) and put in a drink machine.

Wowza — DC keeps upping its sandwich game. This place is no frills, in and out, filling sandwiches. They roast their meats in house and shave them fresh for each order. Turkey, roast beef, and corned beef are the options. Southern turkey was so good but had a bite of my boyfriends Cali Beef and was floored at how good the roast beef was. Bread is legit too — sweet, topped with sesame seeds and very soft. Love when a messy sandwich has a soft bun to allow for some give.

I was surprised. I did not expect it to be this good. I barely even noticed this tiny little place at the corner in Chinatown. It does not stand out. My husband had tried it before and said it was time I tried it. So reluctantly I did. Supposedly they make all the meats in house. They also put a ton of meat on your sandwich. For $ 9 a sandwich, I would hope so. The sesame seed bun bread tasted toasted and buttered. The sandwich I ordered had jalapeño sauce and onion rings on it. It was really good. The meat was some of the best corned beef I have had in awhile. It is a tiny little establishment. They have two registers. When we came in on Sunday afternoon, there was only one person behind one register and only one person making sandwiches. Our order was number 100 and they were still on 83. A second dude finally showed up to help but it was still pretty slow. This was on a lazy sunday afternoon. I can’t imagine how busy this place must get at lunch time during the week. I hope they have a better system in place for then! There is limited outdoor and indoor seating. I am sure you can find street parking anywhere around the Chinatown area. They also sell a limited selection of drinks, chips, and cole slaw. The slaw was AVERAGE. Nothing to write home about. The chips options were jalapeño cheddar, BBQ, regular, and something else. See the pictures for more details. The food held well till we walked home too. I am sure we will be back. It was worth the visit.

Not customary of my practice, but I’ll give the spot 5 stars on my first real visit. I anticipated it’s opening after stopping by when the place was still under construction, almost operable. I was given a sample of the corned beef even though they weren’t open and it was DELICIOUS! Good food and good customer service? I was sure to be back. This visit, I went with 4 co workers. We all got different sandwiches– Penn Quarter, DC Turkey, Cali Turkey, Kansas City and some more. Strawberry lime juice, peanut butter and choco shake, and more. We walked in, just in time before the tiny space had a line out of the door. We were taken care of patiently, but quickly. I know working a register isn’t rocket science, but when you have great customer service it sets the tone for the rest of the business. Don’t under estimate your front line staff! How I didn’t get her name is beyond me, but my receipt says«Morng.Cash M.» Smiles, patient service, answered my questions, let me taste test the juices, even courteously asked the next person to wait until i was done with my transaction. This is HUGE. I hate when ppl don’t let you finish and the cashier is takes the next person ordering over my shoulder. Love you«Morng. Cash M. LOL Everyone loved their food. I got the Kansas City… onion rings and BBQ sauce? Sign me up! I was trying to stick with turkey options, but remembering the sample of corned beef, I figured the roast beef had to be delicious too. The sandwich is what you see in all of the pics: big, soft sesame bread(I’m super picky about my bread– it makes or breaks a sandwich), lots of roast beef(a bit stringy, but tender) muenster cheese, onion rings(ehh not what i expected– old, not fresh and crisp) I requested pickles and sprouts to add some green… It was good, pretty good. I was grateful that the bread was palatable and quite good, topped it all off with some requested wise guy sauce and it was a dream. I tasted my friend’s peanut butter shake. That was quite delicious as well– creamy, thick and not as sugary sweet. It has a natural peanut butter taste. I look forward to going back for a corned beef sandwich and shake! Tip: A sandwich alone will run you $ 8 – 10

What’s Beef? OK, It’s Friday afternoon, so that’s as clever as my title is gonna get. Deal with it. The good thing about Fridays, though, is that I like to try new eateries. Today, I tried Beef N Bread. It’s a small sandwich spot on the corner of 6th and H. It’s a cozy little spot, where you probably won’t find a seat, so you grab your lunch bag and go. I tried the Cali Roast Beef sandwich. I forget all that was on it, but I know it had roast beef, avocado, jalapeño sauce, bacon, lettuce, and a pickle on a sesame seed bun. The sandwich was good quality. I like the combination that BNB did there. The mild, muting flavor of the avocado, the natural muzzled flavor of the beef, and the kick of the jalapeño came together for a nice blend. The meat is tender and rare, so if you are a person who does not like his/her red meat red, then you may want to order the turkey. The sesame seed bun is toasted to perfection. I hadn’t realized how long it had been since I had one. The sandwich was big, but not so massive that it is difficult to eat. I also complemented the sandwich with the kale, apple lemonade. That was very flavorful drink as well. Ultimately, this place is a winner. Expect DC pricing($ 12.63 for a sandwich and drink), but you are getting good quality. I may go back one day and see if they wow me enough to earn the illustrious 5th star.

So I tried a different sandwich this time, after being told that the sandwich I got was a less popular version, and that they have actually made changes to it. I was in the mood for turkey this time, so I got the Cali Turkey sandwich instead. This sandwich was much better than the Chicago roast beef sandwich I had. The sliced turkey was fresh, the sauces complimented it well, and it was a big sandwich. I liked the avocado and sprouts, it was a very solid sandwich that left me satisfied. I wouldn’t consider it a destination sandwich spot, like their pizza spot is for pizzas, but if I worked nearby, I would definitely get it regularly. I will have to try their corned beef next time, but the turkey sandwich is definitely better than most sandwiches you can get around here.

This place is good, REALGOOD. I don’t really know how to start this review so I’ll just say I’ve been here twice so far and it’s definitely been the best roast beef and turkey sandwiches I’ve ever ate. I grew up in Jersey right outside NY and one thing we didn’t lack was a ton of great delis that made simple but amazing sandwiches. Beef N Bread reminds me of some of the places I grew up with but I have to admit Beef N Bread probably beats most, if not all of them. Beef N Bread keeps their menu simple so they can concentrate on what they’re good at. Besides the sides and drinks, it’s basically 3 types of sandwiches, roast beef, turkey, and corned beef. All of the sandwiches just melt in your mouth. Nothing like any other place in the DC area offers. I can’t say how happy I am to have this place only 1.5 blocks from my work. And just because I skipped over the drinks and sides doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be noted. Both are excellent! Check my pics of the juices. They taste natural and delicious and possibly even healthy? I could go into how tasty the bun is and how the horseradish sauce adds the perfect amount of kick to the sandwich but that won’t do it justice. Just go and try for yourself. This guy Tony really knows what he’s doing, trust me. Simple but AMAZING food. Now only if he can get some good bagels down here with some Taylor Ham aka Pork Roll. Maybe make it a NY/NJ-style bagel/bakery and we’re talking. If he needs any help, I’ll be the first to lend a hand!
