While visiting Washington DC, I wanted to purchase a few items for my girlfriend, and I wanted to get them from a local shop!
I hit the jackpot. As a male who doesn’t know much about women’s fashion the assistance I received from the staff at Betsy Fisher was first rate!!!
My sales person Emilie was top notch, patient, attentive, generous with her time and more than willing to show me multiple articles of clothing & shoes. After making my purchases, Betsy Fisher offered to wrap my purchases, working from the floor carefully boxing the what I had bought!!!
I highly recommend this clothier, and visiting Betsy Fisher put a bow on my trip to DC! Thanks ladies

You have to ring the doorbell to get in. Don’t look like an idiot, like I did, by trying to open a very locked door while the entire staff watches you from inside. At first I thought, ugh, doorbell, so pretentious. BUT, the staff was really nice and they offered me champagne… so, yeah, check it out.

Betsy Fisher was the most customer friendly women’s clothing store I have been to in years. It was truly an amazing experience shopping here.

I stopped here to browse on a recent trip to DC from Seattle, not at all expecting to actually buy anything — I am a ¹²⁄₁₄ on a good day and I honestly did not think they would have anything close to my size, as the norm in stores like this in Seattle is to cater to the 2÷4÷6 crowd. In any case, as soon as I entered the owner immediately came over to offer me a blood orange mimosa (!) and ask me some questions about my style and needs. After trying on a few items she immediately «got» me — my style, my likes, and most importantly, my body and what would work on it. From that point forward she brought me dozens of things to try on, including a few items that were obviously just for fun and not something she expected me to purchase (like a super over-​the-​top $ 600 dress that was just hilarious to put on). There were a few items she brought that I immediately said no to, and she did not pressure or question me at all.
Not only did the store carry sizes that worked for my curvy body, but they even stocked cute shoes to fit my size 11 feet that normally resemble large loaves of bread! Big win. In the end, I walked out with two great dresses and a really cozy sweater. Two of the items were discounted by more than 70% so I also managed to get a really good deal. I will definitely be back the next time I’m in DC!

I live in NYC where there are plenty of stores (some say it is the fashion capital of the US) but I buy all my clothes at Betsy Fisher.
There are a number of reasons.
There are brands of clothing new to me that I would not be able to find in NYC. Everything is selected with the professional woman in mind. The sales staff is incredibly helpful. The entire experience is pleasant-​how many other stores will make you a cup of tea or give you a bottle of water and let you use the ladies’ room? True prices are not the lowest anywhere but nor are they crazy high. They are bridge line prices. Quality is crazy high.

Just had to share how the clothes at Betsy Fisher are literally awed by those around the world. I bought a gorgeous Magaschoni cashmere scarf and recently took it on my travels to Doha, Qatar. It was the perfect travel companion and easy to throw over my shoulder while traveling on the plane or throughout the city. No matter where I went everyone wanted to know where I had gotten this gorgeous scarf. The staff and Betsy herself have been a huge part of all the amazing compliments I have received throughout my travels. The minute you walk through the door you’re made to feel like you belong — no matter who you are. The store is collectively ran by the most warm welcoming and courteous girls in this city! I promise you won’t regret the experience.

It is with tremendous sadness that I rate Betsy Fisher so low. I have shopped here for years and lord knows how much I have spent. The mix of stuff is incomparable. The owner has a fantastic eye. It has truly been my one-​stop shop. But they are going through staff transitions and the customer service has taken a nose dive. A long-​time senior manager left and its abundantly clear how much she held the place together and drove sales. I am buying less than I ever have and its mostly because the staff cant keep track of special orders, what I am considering still and what I am not. They used to rock at this. The current staff just dont seem to have the chops to work with the clientele. And the owner, whose strong suit has never been working the floor (rather its been getting the best collection/​mix in town in one place… which is still true), is obviously stressed. I hope they sort it out soon but I agree with the reviewer who said its almost uncomfortable in there.

This is the most amazing store ever! Sound over the top? Read on! As a shopper who’s had the fortune to shop here for over ten years, each piece that I’ve purchased remains timeless in my closet and savvy on my body. I wear Betsy Fisher’s carefully selected clothes with confidence and pride. I hit this store about four times a year looking for THAT special item (or two or three) and know with certainty, I will find it. You won’t regret stopping by if you are in the neighborhood (or even if you make a special trip ;-))

Love Betsy Fisher. As someone who lives between Admo/​Dupont this is my one stop shop for the times when I need something to wear but don’t have the requisite 2 hours to travel to/​wade through the racks at Georgetown.
The prices are comparable to or even slightly lower than Georgetown stores like CUSP, Barneys co-​op, Wink, etc. Jewelry and shoes are both very well curated. Clothing selection is deceptively limited as well, but the items are extremely versatile and easy to style as young/​older, formal/​fun. etc.
My only complaint is that it’s much more difficult to find clothing in my size (2 – 4) than at stores that cater to a younger audience. But I can’t dock Betsy one star for selling out her styles.

For years I walked by this store, impressed by the clothes in the window, but assuming it was too expensive for me. I finally walked in, and — wow — I haven’t gone to another clothes store since. There are cute, moderately priced casual clothes, and elegant, unique work items that draw endless comments from impressed friends and strangers every thime I wear them! Worth every penny for the sheer joy I get wearing them — again and again (great values!!). I had been a very practical, no-​nonsense, safe dresser, but Betsy and her team have transformed my wardrobe and my attitude towards dressing so that I now find it FUN! I LOVE my shoes & clothes from BF. I am confident in every outfit I have bought there. I will never shop anywhere else! Thank you Betsy and team!!!

A real boutique experience – without the neiman marcus attitude. Yes, it is true this is not a place for $ 30 cardigans — that’s what talbots and gap is for. This is a great place for investment pieces that you won’t find in major department stores. There are fun trunk shows through the season that I look forward to.
My betsy collection includes a great jacket, a timeless sweater, and some amazing shoes. I’ve always had great service, but when its busy, I just come back later or wait – they pay attention to your needs and know how to flatter your figure.
There’s also a great «gambler’s sale» at the end of the season, so if you hold out, you can usually find some amazing deals — you’ll find me diving in on the first day. If you want cookie cutter fashion, there’s plenty of that around. If you want something special that stands out from a crowd-there’s betsy fisher.
I have no problem spending my hard earned money here. I know my clothes will look great for seasons to come :)

Although I haven’t shopped the clothes extensively, I bought a pair of beautiful, elegant earrings at this location.
However, more notably than the fashion offered there, is there customer service. The ladies were absolutely wonderful, over and beyond the most helpful people I’ve ever dealt with. I would recommend this place to EVERYONE AND ANYONE.

Love love love this store – so much that when the budget is tight, I can’t even go near this place! There’s a varied and well-​picked array of designers and styles and trunk shows – do yourself a favor and check out just one of the trunk shows, so much fun (you may possibly want someone to safeguard your credit card, though, drinks plus shopping can be dangerous). And Betsy – cannot say enough wonderful things about Betsy – great eye, truly loves fashion, and just an all-​around great human being! And don’t even get me started on the shoes…

I passed this shop everyday on my way to and from work for the past year assuming that it would be too «upity» and pricey for me. I finally went in and was greated warmly by the staff. The selection is a little sparce, but the pieces were all winners! Their prices are a little steap, but their sales are out of this world if you can catch them! I would really recommend stopping by.

BF has a nice variety for such a small place. If you stumble upon one of their sales, consider yourself lucky. The discounts can be fantastic (70%). The staff is friendly and unimposing. definitely worth a visit.

Alright, this place is way too expensive, but you are paying for the service! The people there are amazing w/​fashion and knows exactly what is in the store and what looks good, even when you don’t!

Don’t be intimidated by the buzzer on the door. This boutique south of Dupont Circle has been around a quite a few years, and it’s staying power is due to Betsy’s great taste in selecting pieces for her namesake boutique.
The other things going for this boutique 1) friendly staff, 2) selection of sizes above single digits. Many other boutiques have a snooty staff and nothing above a size 10. At Betsy’s I find some cool (not matronly) clothes in my size.
They also have gorgeous bags, shoes, and jewelry. Yes, it’s pricey, but the clothes are designer pieces you won’t see everywhere, and you get excellent service!

This store has great (but expensive) clothing that is well edited. The merchandise isn’t at all overwhelming as the store has a lot of open space. Betsy was so nice and offered me a drink. Unfortunately, I had to decline since I was about to head out to an eye appointment. Apparently, they even drive to your home with several options which is convenient. I have my eye on a colorful maxi dress. Hopefully no one snags it before I get back. :)

Whether I’m feeling like I want something practical with staying power or absolutely fabulous or the piece that makes everyone on this coast stop me and say, «WOW, where did you get that?» I know that the secret in my pocket is Betsy Fisher.
Yes, I know the store is in Washington, DC and I know that I live in California. But guess what? There’s a website. And not only that, they have personal shoppers. So you can call the store, tell them what you need, and magically a box of fabulous clothes arrives on your doorstep for you to peruse and try on in the comfort of your home! Keep what you want, send the rest back, and voila… you’re the best dressed person in your neighborhood and you don’t look like everyone else!
I’ve been a huge fan of Betsy Fisher for nearly 20 years. The clothes at this store just get better and better. Betsy does a great job of scouring the markets for a mix of designers that you just don’t find anywhere else so you look always look fresh, together and right on the mark!
Of course a trip to the actual store can not be beat. There’s nothing like standing in the dressing room and having outfit after outfit presented to you while you’re sipping a cool beverage and being fawned over by their very knowledgeable and attentive staff.
Trust me. If you’re in Washington stop by and let them show you their latest fun collections. Or go to one of their fun evening store events. But if you’re not in the DC Metro area, by all means take advantage of the shopping online. And did I mention the shoes? Oh yes, the shoes! There are shoes, too!
Betsy Fisher has you stylishly covered from head to toe!

I have this very stylish friend who lives in, of course, NYC. Last time she came to visit, she exclaimed «There is no good fashion in DC!» I brought her to Betsy Fisher and she changed her tune.
I knew I had to bring out the big guns. During certain times of the day, they keep this place like a jewelry store — you have to ring a doorbell to gain access. No, this isn’t the Vera Wang Bridal store at Watergate. Thankfully, the staff is friendly not snobby.
The clothes here are decidedly fanciful and femme. The designers here span the globe from France to Italy and back to the US. And names you’ll recognize like Nicole Miller, Cynthia Rowley, and Easel.
The price point here hovers around a hundred bucks and above so budget accordingly.
