I see a lot of really varied reviews here. This is a neighborhood bar that serves food. If you keep that in mind, it will all work out. Nice people and good bartender that won’t leave you w an empty drink. Good price on beer(all I drink) and laid back atmosphere. Chicken wrap was good and beats the crap out of hotel food.

Between the mediocre food and the even more mediocre service, I’m not a fan. Came for lunch with the boss and the first thing that stood out to us on this 85 degree day is that there is no A/C in there… just two ServePro cleanup-sized fans blowing around hot air. Ooookay We sit at the bar and place our orders. Boss gets a hot dog, I get a ‘cheeseborger’. Bartender insists that I get a double. No seriously. I repeated my order twice and he said«Double. Got it.» Does not tell me why, but instead just gives me this nod like«trust me». Ooookay I found out later that it’s because the patties are about 1⁄8 inch thick and practically disappear under the massive buns.(*snicker* Sorry…) I don’t like big buns, and I cannot lie(This review is sooo going downhill), especially when there’s not much meat in between them(somebody please stop me!). That was pretty much the case with this burger. Seriously, they look like those tiny McDonald’s patties, and tasted about the same. The whole thing was forgettable, and that’s putting it mildly. The worst part though… the bartender made us go get our food ourselves. He was fiddling around on his laptop, but he got up long enough to walk back behind the bar, walk over to us, tell us our food was ready and that we could pick it up at the counter. Oooooooookay…

Same female bartender who’s a jerk all the time. Takes forever for single beer orders. Decent food for the price and out door seating.

We need more bars like this in DC. Bring your dog and sit outside. Walk to the Capitol. Cheap eats and laid back atmosphere.

This is close to the Hyatt on New Jersey. They have bar food. Cheeseborgers are what they are known for with the famous lication in Chicago. My hamburger was a bit overdone. You add your own condiments. The nachos were huge with chili in top. It was $ 25 for the four of us.

They could get points for emulating the original location and famous skit, but the location is a nice office building, the help is only slightly feisty and they have fries for pete’s sake! So they have to be weighed on the merits of their chow. A double burger is still dwarfed by the bun, the patties are so small. So don’t think yourself a pig for even going triple. It’s not good, but it’s not bad and it’s quite cheap. There’s a place in the world for cheap forgettable chow. This is one of the portals to that world.

Not very good burgers. They make them while you wait so was expecting much better. Fries are ok but not much else I can recommend. Toppings sit out all day so that is a turn off also. Tried a quesadilla which I thought would be good but was disappointed when it came out. Very bland. Staff is friendly so I have an extra star for that.

My experience with the Billy Goat Tavern has only been in the mornings. I have found it as a good alternative to the nearby hotels hyper-expensive breakfast. What I’ve had here is just a simple breakfast sandwich, nothing more nothing less. Good morning atmosphere here, with lots of glass providing good street views. Televisions on news reports provide the news of the morning if wanted. Bottom line — not the greatest breakfast in Washington, but quick, convenient, and cost-effective.

«Cheeseborger» is claim to fame. Gotta order that with fries and Coke. Explore the second or fourth trip in. Take their advice and get double cheeseburger. Two patties only ¼ pound. Tasty old style burger seared on grill. Served without fix’ns, but mustard, ketchup and dill pickles on side bar.

Billy goat is the local watering hole for my colleagues and me. It’s definitely more of a dive bar but has a nice outside patio area. I wish they had more beers on tap(blue moon, miller lite, billy goat beer and Heineken). Their grilled cheeses, french fries and pickles are always a hit. They do not deliver to your table but it’s easy to pick up inside!

Hotel lounge I stayed at close by closed so looking for a place to get a drink, eat, and visit other DC peeps. Burger was like $ 3.50 and was as good as the price… Few beers on tap but not much of a place for people meeting.

I really didn’t enjoy this place. Went with some friends before seeing a friend’s show and the food was super disappointing. I guess the appeal is supposed to be that it’s old-fashioned and cheap. Well, my double cheeseborger, fries and soda were $ 10 so it wasn’t crazy cheap and the burger was awful. The patties were overcooked and basically slider-size, the cheese was half-melted, and the bun was a sandwich kaiser roll. The ratio of bread to meat was awful… you could have had a whole bite of just bread. I didn’t know you could mess up a burger so badly. Aside from that, the French fries were fine and the complimentary pickles were a nice touch. I was still extremely hungry after this meal, which I guess is to be expected considering I had a kid-size burger.

First off… a Tavern this isn’t…a glorified luncheonette with a bar… is basically what it is… for anyone to call this place a tavern or famous is an outright lie… it’s sterile… no atmosphere… the breakfast they tout was horrible which led to us never going back! BUTTHEBALLSTOCALLTHISPLACE A TAVERN… is a disgrace and deceitful!!!

This place was just ok… Our bartender was mediocre… Went on NYE to grab a quick bit to eat. It wasn’t crowded, which is totally cool. Drinks were really cheap, and they weren’t half bad. The food could have been a lot better tho. We placed our order with our bartender, and we thought, she would bring our food non the less, because that what you do when you sit at a bar. No, that didn’t happen. So, my food set at the counter, for at least 7 minutes because, I actually saw when they set it up there. And, the price I paid for my burger wasn’t really worth it. I had more bun than burger. I don’t know how this lunch time office crowd does it, but not for me.

Gorgeous shiny new building outside, totally didn’t expect a dive bar with a snack bar hiding inside. The Billy Goat shoehorns a big bar, a short-order kitchen and some tables into a long skinny space that’s nearly all windows. Which is kind of a fail bcos a true dive bar should have booths and be dark lol. But hey it has about 4 TVs and it’s open for breakfast, lunch *and* dinner. Four taps: Heineken, Blue Moon, Coors lite and(oh boy) Miller lite too. Not a big fan of any, and especially not the plastic cup I got while most others were holding proper glass. But only 4.55 for that cup, pretty cheap. Wings were solid, almost spicy enough for me, nice bleu cheese sauce but no celery, 8 respectable size wingers for $ 7.25. Risked a chicken sammich. Thinnest piece of meat I’ve ever seen and overcooked too, argh, $ 6 was far too much for this. Side of fries was hot, just ok but not great, another $ 2. Vegetarian rating: 2 stars, you can get a veggie omelet or French toast in the mornings; the rest of the day, well, there’s grilled cheese and fries. Friendly staff and quick service. But why do they wrap the fries in wax paper when you’re sitting right there to eat ‘em? 2 stars Chris, isn’t that kinda harsh? Well. If they had at least one craft beer, or some better fries, just something, it would be 3. Even tho I really do like dive bars, this one was just not a-ok for me.

So on the wall there is a clipping of Julia Child and Pat Collins visiting the BGT and asking about the hamborgers(no misspelling, that’s the way it is on the menu). How they’re made(fresh) and how you know when to flip them(they sweat on top) etc. But mine was, obviously stamped out, and about ten times thinner than the bread. Need I say more? It was tasteless. The cheapest I’ve seen but you sure get what you pay for. They should take that clipping down or upgrade the borgers. The«O» in the spelling clearly stands for zero.

Sure, it’s an unabashed dive bar, but it’s probably the cheapest place to drink in DC, and the pours are extremely generous. The food is about what you would expect in this sort of place, and it’s priced similarly to the booze. Bottom line: If you just want a quick drink and don’t need a lot of atmosphere, you’re in the right place.

Small bar across the street from Georgetown Law. Pretty solid selection of beers and liquor. Depending on the bartender, they have pretty strong drinks. The french fries are good, but that’s the extent of my food consumption there. Had a great time watching the World Cup here, and will definitely be stopping by for more happy hours.

We were a big group from Chicago so we had to stop in to the Billy Goat and visit. We had a great time over at Kelly’s and needed a greasy meal to finish off the evening. A lot of burgers and fries were had. It was as good as it is back home.

The Billy Goat Tavern is not at all what I was expecting when I first heard the name. I expected more of a restaurant, rather than a bar that serves some order-at-the-counter food. For the price, it’s good. It was around $ 6 or $ 7 for a chicken sandwich with fries. I didn’t get sick like I thought I might from the looks of the place and the food was edible. I’ve had worse chicken sandwiches at pricier places. The fries were delicious and portions huge. It was crazy at lunch time, and I’m not sure that I understand why, but, to each their own. Obviously, this was not my choice and I will never return, but if you absolutely must eat here, you’ll live and so will your wallet.
