Can’t believe I am actually Unilocaling for this. But this Blizzard was a special one for DC! The MOST snow I have seen in DC ever — even more than 1996 and other years! Here is my review for the various local governments… Overall: all areas did great on first response. For a city that is as prepared as Orlando to handle snow, I think we did well to keep major roads clear and open! I drove over 200 miles in my SUV during the snow and I had no issues getting around except when it came to suburban neighborhood streets. My town of Arlington get A+ for intial response! Long Term(2 – 5 days) — we kinda got tired of clearing the streets and as the snow turned to ice — the entire area lost many lanes and turn lanes to the snow! Why couldn’t they just dump it in the Potomac is beyond me?!? So the only way some streets and sidewalks and parking lanes got completely snow free is the few days of warm weather and couple of days of rain! C’mon DC we are better than that! Apart from that, it was great walking on streets, taking pictures, seeing people out and about, snowball fights — it was one big Holiday season!

Here are some bullet points that made the Blizzard of ’10 enjoyable for me: Pros — Working in a 4-star hotel and being comped for 6 nights since I couldn’t get home — Taking baths in the deep tub in my room — Waking up and taking lovely showers, thanks to the awesome shower head — Sleeping in a comfortable mattress(I recently moved and have been sleeping on a borrowed futon for the past month) — Being able to change the temperature of the room anytime I wanted(my new place has poor insulation so it’s at 60 degrees all the time) — Watching cable TV(I don’t own a TV at home) — My awesome co-worker roommate — Having great conversations and getting to know my co-workers in our rooms — Walking to the Mall and monuments at midnight and being cold and miserable but in awe of the sheer beauty of the snow — Not having to shovel any snow because at my new place, rent pays for snow removal Cons — Cafeteria food from the hotel for at least 2 meals a day for 7 days — Not packing enough clothes to last a week and having to hand wash some socks and undies — The spa I work in was very very busy because the hotel guests were trapped and they decided to visit the spa — No taxis available — Underground metro stations were running every 30 minutes Shout Outs — Urbana’s Happy Hour at Hotel Palomar — Round Robin Bar at the Willard — Zengo in Chinatown — Domino’s Pizza Delivery and a special thank you to Patron, Skyy vodka, Godiva Chocolate Liqueur, and spiced rum for making my being snowbound very enjoyable indeed!
