Bloomingdale Wine & Spirits

I always support local business but this store is beyond frustrating and just forget about customer service. You can’t reserve a keg in advance and I was told there would be a selection for ‘day of’ pickup. False, they were sold out except for PBR. Secondly, when I went to return it, the OWNER, refused to help me. Yes, the OWNER. He wouldn’t even look at me when I was asking him questions on the return process and told me to comeback when his son was there later in the week. He wouldn’t process the return without the receipt which was a clear attempt to scam me of the deposit since the city requires a system of record for renting a keg. Frustrating. Also, the store was empty. Just to paint the picture a bit better

Selection doesn’t even come close to Schneider’s, but they’ve got a solid variety of Ron Swanson juice at competitive prices with the occasional less common find. Staff is a little aloof, but it’s nice that they can ring customers up on multiple registers before bottlenecking us back out the corner entrance. The Starr Hill vendor offering a beer tasting was an unexpected bonus. We’ll be back to shop when we’re in the neighborhood again.

Gone is the bullet-​proof plexiglass of yore, and in place of the previously ubiquitous bottles of MD ²⁰⁄₂₀ and Night Train you will now find a decent range of wine, including many Spanish and South Americans selections. They even have a few Greeks which turned out to be a boon to me when I had to find something to accompany a Greek-​themed dinner (I got an Agiorgitiko from Nemea in case you’re wondering).
Not to be overlooked is their selection of craft beers (mainly cans) arranged in the fridge that lines the back wall; in addition to national and local favorites like Oskar Blues and DC Brau, they carry products from smaller regional breweries such as Lancaster (I like to pick up a six of their Kolsch every now and then).
Certainly not the best or highest-​end selection in town, but it meets every day needs and beats having to schlep down to Schneider’s on short notice.

Pros: N/​A
Cons: Plentiful variety stuffed into a small area makes locating a product difficult. Staff isn’t the most helpful or friendly. No parking.

Friendly… will order anything you want but takes a little while. Their plastic bags are a little flimsy, totes bring a tote ;-)

The good news… they rent keg taps. Which is key if you are getting great beer from one of DC’s local breweries.
The bad news… they only rent the cheap and easy to break ones. Oh, and they DO NOT CLEAN the taps prior to renting them. Make sure to test the tap right in front of them. (open spigot and let beer flow out of line).
Recommend just buying your own tap on Amazon. They are only a few bucks more than the cost of the rental

I went here today for the first time in at least 5 or so months. First of all, kudos to liquor stores that are open on sunday! Also, being open until 9 on a sunday is pretty rare.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that the plexiglass barrier was taken down, and I could speak with the employees somewhat face-​to-​face. This is probably my favorite liquor store in the area simply because it is always bright and organized. Prices are comparable to most area stores but i’ve definitely seen lower ones elsewhere. If the prices were lowered just a tad I would give it 5 stars.
Overall I am a fan and will be making this my go-​to liquor store. Great selection.

This is a first for me.
So let’s just say, based on my experience there, I felt inclined to write a review.
First of all, this is a NICE liquor store that offers a good VARIETY in a developing neighborhood. There are plenty of «corner store» liquor joints all through this neighborhood, so this was definitely refreshing and inviting, with its large location and bright lit signs.
I also enjoyed that they didn’t hide all the good stuff behind the glass. I was able to contemplate Ciroc (my fave) vs. Grey Goose (runner up) right in my hands, which ultimately led me to making a purchase, with a bottle size I had not seen in many other stores, so I was very pleased.
Also, the staff seems friendly, although I don’t know how knowledgable they are on the specific products they have (english seems to be their second language).
Nonetheless, this is a nice little hike from where I will be moving, but I could certainly see myself making the trip, to not have to deal with all of the unknown of other nearby stores.

After moving to DC from Arlington, I was probably most excited about the more relaxed alcohol laws. I don’t care if I have to pay higher taxes, as long as I can buy liquor at 7 pm on a Sunday. Then I moved here and discovered you can’t by liquor at all on Sundays. But that’s not specific to Bloomingdale liquor.
Bloomingdale Liquor is a fine booze-​monger. They seem to have a decent wine stock, and a lot of beer fridges, but I don’t buy those here. Their bourbon selection was slightly above average, but their prices were slightly below average. There was nothing there I haven’t seen before, like some rare whisky, but this is a great neighborhood liquor store. The check out process is a little awkward (cashiers are in a boxed room to themselves), but the cashier was nice.

My husband and I had the worst experience at this liquor store. Customer service was atrocious. We arrived at the store about 15-​minute before closing and the cashier/​store worker refused to let us in saying that the store was about to close. So as we walked away, a group of young white guys walked to the LOCKED store door and the store owner unlocked the door for them and allowed them to come in. So we asked the store owner why were they allowed to come in the store if the store was so called «CLOSED.» His response was that he didn’t want «your kind of people» (American Americans) to come in and cause trouble. I was so livid and vowed never to support this store. Racism in America is alive, and will continue to be a problem in our society with people like the store owner/​worker at Bloomingdale Liquor.

Great Selection and friendly service. So much better than the old liquor stores where the owner barricades himself behind a plexiglass.
It’s great to find wines form all over the world very fairly priced.

Good prices, good wines and good liquor for everyone’s taste and budget here. We buy much of our party and dinner wine and beer here and have never been disappointed. And it’s a short walk and 2 minute drive from where we live so it’s ultra convenient. Also at the bus stop (G8) so I can stop off after work and get something if necessary.

They have cachaça and were the only of 5 liquor stores in Bloomingdale/​Eckington that were open on Memorial Day. I love this place. Excellent prices on wine too.

Wine, Liquor & Beer — what else is there in life?! My review might be a bit biased since this liquor store is at the end of my street — but I have no complaints. They always have what I need in stock and have a variety of everything — including box gift sets for your favorite beverage of choice.
Prices are reasonable to me — but maybe I’ve lived in DC too long. They’re also always open holidays which is nice because wine is always needed!

Bloomingdale Liquors is an excellent asset to our community. They have a vast selection and carry a reasonable amount of half gallons. Every time it snows, I always go here and get some likka’. Great place!

A strong wine and liquor selection and reasonable for DC prices make Bloomingdale Liquor a better than average corner liquor store. The staff is friendly and answers questions on wine with a good degree of knowledge, and they have specials on a regular basis. Whether you want a microbrew or a bottle of your favorite wine or liquor, Bloomingdale liquor is a pleasant place to shop and well stocked.

They have stuff you need but it is a little pricey.

DC Blizzard 2.0 and they’re still open. They get my vote!

Great service, more knowledgeable about wine and has a good selection for a corner liquor store. This one is better than a corner liquor store tho’ because there are no people that hang out around it. If you wanna grab a good bottle of vino to go with that linguine and clam sauce you made for the dinner date at your crib and you’re close… check it out.
