The food tasted not bad, BUT my 8-​year old daughter and I shared a burrito bowl and got sick having food poisoning from eating here. Never go back there again.

Burrito Brothers is severely underrated. Yes, seating is limited. Yes, it is small hole in the wall. Yes, you have to pay more to get a Chipotle sized burrito. It’s not fair to compare to any other places except authentic southern California hole in the walls. In comparison to So Cal, their California burrito is on par, their super breakfast burrito is top notch, and the horchata is one of the best I’ve had any where. I’ve been searching for real Mexican food in DC with lack luster results; however, Burrito Brothers is the real deal! Oh yeah, please keep blasting that bachata music with pride!

Coming from San Diego, I have missed a good Southern California style burrito now for several years. Chipotle was good at first, but I can no longer stand the rice-​filled burritos. I am starting to feel so completely ripped off and fed up with all these businesses that offer burritos that are more rice than anything else. Visit San Diego and ask for a carne asada burrito and guess what you’ll get? You’ll get 90% carne asada. Just what the doctor ordered! Then there’re places like California Tortilla that have burritos that are supposed to be similar to a California-​style burrito, and oh lord are they terribly opposite. So naturally, I was reading the reviews here, and I saw the frequent complaints that a place not named «Chipotle» was not making Chipotle burritos, and I had to try.
Thankfully my girlfriend did the research since I get into bad habits of not going to places lower than 4 stars, and I could’ve easily ignored this spot. Burrito Brothers doesn’t seem to claim anything except that it’s a burrito place, and you know what? They make a proper burrito. Some of their items have rice in them, but they aren’t substituting the other ingredients to make a huge rice wrap that has only one measly scoop of the meat you requested. I ordered a California Burrito, and I got a proper San Diego Style California Burrito. It was a little small, but I am just so happy that they made it small rather than give me a huge «California Burrito» that was Large because the filled it in with rice. It was a good solid burrito and the green salsa on the bar was the perfect addition to make me feel back at home in SD. Burrito Brothers will be a regular spot of mine for when the cravings come rushing back in.

This place was super fast and the food was good. They take Visa and Master Card. American Express is not accepted here. I will come back. It is a short walk from work and I was in and out super fast.

Not really sure what to think of this place. It looks like it has potential, then is sorta just a let down. Not bad, but definitely not great either. Has a ton of options on the menu, but up-​charges for everything. I love Mexican food and have an insatiable hunger for it but hadn’t even heard of this place. I walk past this area often enough and it never caught my eye until today when I was famished and thinking of how great Chipotle would be if it wasn’t stricken with e coli or whatever is going on with it right now.
So I was circling by and spotted it today as my mind raced with questions of whether Monsanto really has to do with the outbreak at Chipotles or everything that’s going on with the Zika virus. My first thought when I saw it was essentially fuck yeah, that’s my kinda brothers (you know, as long as they’re not affiliated with Monsanto). I pulled it up on Unilocal and saw the three stars. If you factor in standard deviations, I figured it’d be somewhere between a 2 and a 4. Hoping for the 4, I took a chance.
Absolutely love that there’s a mini-​sized burrito for just $ 5.00 and it’s $ 7 if you add in the «works» — cheese, guac and sour cream. There’s a $ 2 off check in special with the app if you buy a $ 7 entrée so I figured what the hey, I’d pay cash money for guac any day of the week anyway. What wasn’t clear was that you end up paying an extra $ 1 for certain meats and my $ 7 burrito somehow was almost $ 9 with tax, nevermind that I’d pay $ 9-​something including tax and the extra charge for guac at Chipotle for a burrito 2.5 to 3 times the size. What makes it even worse is that the rice had the texture of Uncle Ben’s (and I do not mean my uncle Benjamin who makes some bangin rice n beans) and the refried beans had the metallic texture of canned beans. The chorizo was abundant enough but it was a very, very small burrito (I thought this would be a little smaller than «regular» but turns out it’s baby sized and «regular» is the largest version they offer. They have stuffed fake burritos along the wall that I didn’t see until I was leaving) and didn’t have much flavor. The one good aspect of the flavor profile that pleasantly surprised me was the freshly grilled peppers, which had a small amount of heat. I could have done with much more of those peppers but it added a nice flavor and freshness. The guac tasted store bought, creamy and bland.
I might go back for the $ 5 burrito if I’m not too hungry and can convince myself not to pay for sub-​par guac. But 10 times out of 10 I’ll chose e coli so I wouldn’t count on seeing a second check in here.

One of the only remaining original burrito chains of DC from the 1990s burrito wars… before Chipotle, Baja Fresh, Qdoba, Lime Fresh, California Tortilla etc. eradicated the competition with lesser fare, This is still one of the best Burritos in all of DC. None of this chopped up in squares chicken, steak, dry carnitas etc… this is the real deal.
Once a chain that had locations on M St., Dupont & Adams Morgan, and all the way out in Tysons and even Springfield VA, there now only remains this location (and I think the one in the metro food court on Eye St… which is not as good).
This is a small location but it puts out great food at a great price. Their menu has changed a bit since the old days and offer just more than burritos now but it is the original items that remain the stars. There aren’t alot of seats but they have a good selection of different hot sauces, and a nice condiments bar (though you will have to pay extra for more pico de gallo), and friendly service
Suffice to say… I cannot recommend more highly their Big Daddy Spinach Burrito… you cannot get anything like it at the big chains. It is humongous… and delicious with large leaves of spinach. I have attempted to replicate it at home with little success that whenever I am in the area I make a special trip to stop by.

I had a great burrito here. It was so nice to be able to get a California style burrito (includes French fries). I haven’t seen one since I was in San Diego a few years ago, so it was a very welcomed treat.
My complaint is the absence of seating. This is not a fancy place and there is virtually no seating. So, get here early or be prepared to get your meal to go!

4 minute walk from Library of Congress, great service, very quick, big portions, lunch for five very reasonable, put this little spot on your list when near the Capitol for a great lunch.

It’s kind of easy to walk past Burrito Brothers without knowing it’s there, as it sits snuggled next to a salon on a quiet part of Penn. When you walk in, you realize that the place is indeed as small as the Unilocal reviews describe, but there are about ten or twelve chairs at a high-​top bench/​tabletop in here (no tables).
Taking advantage of the $ 2 off check-​in special, I ordered a barbacoa quesadilla with yucca. I. Love. Yucca! Especially with the right sauce. Now, their yucca was nice, hardy (but not hard), and fresh, but their dipping sauces leave all of the things to be desired. One has bubbles all over the top of it and is an almost chemically green color, the second is an unidentified, nearly tasteless brown sauce whose identity I can’t peg, and the third is a green chile sauce with a kick.
The quesadilla was interestingly made into two pockets, rather than the traditional style quesadilla. Each pocket came wrapped in foil and was piping hot. The barbacoa beef was well-​marinated, albeit a tad overcooked, and the veggies inside were fresh.
I have to ding Burrito Brothers a bit for cleanliness – I went to grab plastic utensils and they were all… well, dirty. I don’t mean «a little dusty.» I mean that I kept looking toward the bottom of the pile until I found a clean fork. The door to the hallway with their cleaning supplies and such is left wide open, which is just a little off putting. However, the restaurant as a whole was not unclean.
Those items aside, I would rate BB as an average restaurant. The quesadilla and yucca were $ 12 after the $ 2 discount, which is a tad pricey for a restaurant that most would affectionately label a hole in the wall. They had a great radio playlist on, though, and Daddy Yankee kept me going. This won’t become my go-​to place for Mexican food, but it may just be my convenient yucca stop!

In some ways, I feel guilty for giving this place such a low rating. I mean, I did have a mildly enjoyable experience here and their Cali burrito was actually kind of decent. I’m also a huge fan of local businesses and so it pains me when I have to shoot them down — it’s like having to spank my kids in order to discipline them (that is if I am fortunate enough to one day become a father).
I think my reasons for such a low rating can be distilled down into these three points:
1. It’s actually kind of pricey for such a low quality burrito. With Chipotle down a couple blocks and District Taco across the street, why would I have to pay so much more?
2. Although it does have the divey /​more authentic Mexican-​like atmosphere going for it, the food is actually not that authentic. It is more Mexican tasting than Chipotle, but what isn’t nowadays?
3. That salsa bar they have is quite pitiful. I realize that it’s not as extensive as District Taco’s, but man all the salsas taste the same… the heat level wasn’t even very distinct between the green and red.
I actually mildly enjoyed my Cali burrito, which has fries instead of rice for a burrito. I just couldn’t justify the $ 12 price tag for not that much burrito when I probably would have been much happier with Chipotle. That’s usually not a good sign (not that Chipotle is bad, it’s great actually but it’s Chipotle — you’re not supposed to compare it to actual Mexican food).

We impulsively stopped here while looking for a bite on the Hill. It’s a fantastic little hole in the wall! Super friendly staff and super delicious, fresh, wholesome food. And great prices. Two thumbs up!

We came across this restaurant after viewing the Christmas tree at the Capitol and I am so happy we saw this place as we drove down Pennsylvania Avenue. It is fantastic!
They let us make burritos with any filling we wanted and the flavors were way way beyond anything I have eaten at Chipotle in recent years.
My burrito included three kinds of beans, all of which were vegetarian, spinach, guacamole, grilled onions and salsa. What an amazing flavor combination. I love that they also offer brown rice.
The best burrito I have had in or out of Washington DC in many a year. Plus, the service was friendly and very quick. And the price was a bargain!

This location was selling burritos when Chipotle was only a glimmer in old McDonald’s eye. Very similar. Good quality burritos. Only knock is that it’s very small with only 8 – 10 seats.

The menu isn’t laid out very well, so a tourist like myself stumbling in at lunch rush hour tends to cause a hold-​up. They also don’t list prices for add-​ons in a very obvious place, so when the cashier asked me if I wanted the various things on my burrito I just hurriedly mumbled yes. $ 1.35 for guac? That’s crazy! The «lunch combo» is a good deal for a plain, ‘naked’ burrito, but the add-​ons make it expensive fast.
The food was good, though! Some of the best pico I’ve tasted. I had a burrito and my husband had a taco salad bowl. If I were in DC again I’d maybe stop in for a treat, but would go elsewhere if it were cheaper.

for a small little burrito shack in DC, this place was awesome. This was honestly one of the best breakfast burritos I’ve ever had… and being from Texas, that says a lot because we have some damn good mexican food down here. This was also one of the best breakfasts I had of the 3 days I spend in DC. The breakfast burritos come in different sizes, are stuffed with all of the goodies and they have a salsa bar.

Food was tasteless, with the guac being the only thing that actually HAD a Taste Service was good and friendly but the food completely ruins it. Waaay too costly to be this bad. Don’t eat here unless you want to waste your money on something you probably won’t finish eating.

Only reviewing the super breakfast burrito. This is my favorite breakfast meal next to pancakes, and I love pancakes!
I always get the super breakfast burrito with maduros (plantains), bacon, and yucateca habanero hot sauce. One of the most delicious meals I’ve ever had!

I’m in DC for business and was craving some good tacos. Found some positive words about this location and decided it was worth a try. The three carne asada tacos weren’t what I’m used to back home but as it goes for DC it’s definitely among my favorite.

The service was fantastic. Vee is really great. And the food was pretty good. However, about an hour after eating, both my partner and I were… having issues. And we ordered completely different things with different proteins. I don’t think I’ll be going back any time soon.

This is not the Chain restaurant burrito Brothers this is an independently owned burrito brothers restaurant in Washington DC. Upon arrival I was not expecting this place to be very good. I was with a group of friends and they really wanted to get Mexican food one of the people that I was with had eaten here before and said that the food was very good.
When we got inside the place was not very big they have big ordering boards all over the restaurant and it can be a little bit overwhelming because they’re so many different options. There was only two people that were working there that spoke English in my experience in the past that could be either a really good thing or can be a really bad thing in this case it was a really good thing. I ordered two tacos one hardshell and one softshell with chicken and a cheese quesadilla. When I got my order I only received one hard taco and one cheese quesadilla. And my order also had meat inside of the taco. So they did mess up my order but the food was very good. I ended up going back up and getting a softshell taco with shredded chicken and the order came out correct the soft shell taco with shredded chicken was very good. One of the people that I was with and it up having the taco salad bowl and they thought it was going to be very small but it was huge and they said that the food was very good. Another thing I like about this taco shop is that the food here was fairly cheap the tacos were around two dollars a taco if not less. You can definitely get a good lunch here for five dollars. Another person I was with got the special on their board which was called the big daddy and it was the size of a small football they can only eat half of the burrito.
When you do you place your order they have all of the sauces hot sauces inch a lot of sauce is etc. up on top of one of the windows you can pick the different sauces that you would like to incorporate into your meal the sauces. Range from just regular plain hot sauce to habanero and ghost pepper sauce. Trying to get a seat in Barito brothers is very difficult they do have seating up against the wall it’s a bar style seating with high tables and there’s not much room in back of you if somebody had to go past you you would either have to get up or move your chair completely in.
Overall the food in here was very good the food is also very cheap you can get a good meal for five dollars just check your mail before you eat it to make sure that it’s the right taco that you ordered next time I’m in DC I probably will come here the food was very good and I do recommend eating here.
