Consulate General of Peru

Third time visiting and I must say, I’ve never been fond of their service…
I agree with the previous review, they are VERY casual. Perhaps it was just me, but the receptionist was very rude (if you think eye rolling and evil glares are rude). Maybe she was having an off day (must be a trend if its happen all 3 times I’ve gone)? She was SO BURDENED when my mom asked her questions on what day to pick up her documents. Honestly, I walked out of there so upset with their service.

I had to get a visa to Peru to visit Machu Picchu. Found that the consulate is located near M street right opposite the West End cinema.
I went on a Friday. Took the metro to Foggy bottom and it was a short walk to the consulate. Waiting time was about 10 minutes.
The consular officer was very friendly and extremely casual. One example of how casual the experience was. I had not pasted the photo in the form, as I was not sure, since the size of the passport photo I had, didn’t exactly fit where it was supposed to be pasted. So I gave the photo to him. He took a glue stick and pasted it on the form, without asking anything from me !! All the while, he was chatting with his neighbors and other visitors in Spanish.
Later, he was going through my itinerary in the application, and found that I had not brought the reservation for a hotel where I am going to stay (it was not asked in the website). He again said, that wouldn’t be a problem, «just email it to me and you’ll get the visa in a week». And wrote his mail in a post-​it and gave it to me. And sure enough, I got the visa, after I sent the reservation.
All this was quite different to me, since I had so far only visited Canadian and US consulates and the Indian embassies. While these other folks have a significantly higher volume of visitors, they also could be less intimidating to a tourist visa applicant.
