DC Sail

Had a wonderful time on the Sunset Sail. Captain and crew were awesome and the boat was lovely. Can’t wait to do it again!

I got Boating and Baseball tickets for my boyfriend as a gift. Our captain was energetic and friendly. There was a variety of people: a bachelor party (i think), a father and son, and couples. DC Sail provided non-​alcoholic drinks and water. We went on a very hot day, but the sail created occasional shade and the breeze off the water was enough to keep it enjoyable. Sailing is much better than those touristy cruises. This was a unique and fun experience. I highly recommend it.
I only wish they had turned the engine off, because the best part of sailing is the silent speed. Also, the baseball tickets aren’t great. I think you should organize better seats, and just raise the price as needed. Or, you could just schedule the sailing before games and suggest that people use that itinerary and purchase their own tickets. My boyfriend and I just went to the Red Loft and then snagged some closer seats that weren’t being used.
I will definitely be checking out more DC Sail offerings in the future!

DC Sail is a great organization and I love the fact that they are a community sailing program. I’ve been sailing with them since 2005 and now actively volunteer with DC Sail. I like volunteering at DC Sail because of the passion and dedication of the other volunteers and the staff. Another thing I like about the organization is that part of their core mission is to provide sailing opportunities for underprivileged DC youth.
Their learn to sail classes are taught on Flying Scots and DC Sail also offers a capsize class so students can get a US Sailing Small boat certification. The curriculum provides a lot of sailing time for students and is designed to build their confidence as new sailors.
The location is great and since they are near a metro it makes getting to their facility super-​easy. Keep an eye out for their monthly bbqs during the spring/​summer as they are extremely fun and a great way to meet new people.
