I have really bad knees. No seriously, despite the fact that I am only 24, I have patellar subluxation, which means that my kneecaps don’t sit where they’re supposed to and can cause a lot of pain and discomfort. I blame figure skating my entire childhood since age 5. Those axels aren’t too easy on the knees. I was looking for an orthopedist near work and home, and decided on Georgetown Hospital’s Orthopedics department. Dr. Delahay specializes in knees, so I scheduled an appointment with him. Office is basic, but the wait time was great. I thought that being in the hospital would mean I’d be waiting a decade in the waiting room and then in the exam room, but that wasn’t the case at all. Once I met with Dr. Delahay, he checked out my knees and how they were sitting, and of course he recognized my already-diagnosed patellar subluxation. But he also diagnosed patello-femoral pain syndrome, which can happen with subluxation. He was very specific and explanatory about everything, and answered all my questions, which I really appreciated. He prescribed an anti-inflammatory(one I’ve been on before) and a round of physical therapy. This might sound odd with a rave review, but I’m glad that I haven’t had to go back, because it means my knees are doing well! I’m even going back to the practice with my recent back issues(though seeing another doc since Delahay is not a back specialist). However, if I do have more knee issues, Dr. Delahay is the one for me.
