Fido and Kitty’s World

We live two blocks down and didn’t even know this place existed for months. But once we found out, we’ve been going there for all of our dog food and treats. Their free mini dog park out back is great too. Our pup gets to play while we shop for her stuff! Plus the owner is very nice. So glad this place exists. ^_^

Love this place! And love sporting local businesses. Any time I’ve stopped in wondering if they have something, they always do. Why go all the way to petco?

So nice to have a pet store in the area and they carry quality brands. They order my bunnies food for me as well. owners are super nice and really care about the community.

I have a fussy little Havanese who simply wasn’t eating his food. The owner of this shop immediately knew what to recommend and he’s gained over a pound since we took her advice! I also love that the backyard behind the shop has been converted into a small dog park! Amazing shop — best in the area!

I loooooooooooooooooove this store, and so does my dog. Here’s why:
(1) Range of great food options for very reasonable prices, and they are very knowledgeable about all the products. They helped me choose a new food for my dog (Fromm’s) that she liked much better and that didn’t irritate her stomach, and it was priced less than fancier «dog boutiques» (ugh, that term hurts me) or Claws N Paws (which isn’t nearly as clean or accomodating). Plus there is a rewards program (10% for every $ 100 that you spend) and they deliver for orders over $ 40. And my dog loves the little treats that they sell for tooth maintenance — she is a fussy little dog but she has gone nuts for everything that the owner suggested to me here.
(2) The dog park, while small, is adorable and so well done — plus it’s normally pretty quiet so you don’t have to worry about adverse dog interactions. The owner brings out water and treats for the dogs and checks in to make sure they are having fun and give some belly rubs, which is always cute. There is an area for the humans to hang out in too — complete with fireside mural paintings to make it feel more «outdoorsy» in the middle of Petworth.
(3) The owner and staff are amazing. Truly. They remember everyone and every dog, special order food for no markup, make good suggestions, and are generally ultra-​friendly. When my friend’s dog was sick and stopped eating, they helped find food that she would eat again — and stuffed her with treats when she came with me to the store. When I needed a vet suggestion, she gave me 3 options and I ended up with a great vet. When I needed a groomer suggestion, she hooked me up with names and discounts. When I said that I worried about my dog’s teeth, they gave me treats to take home and try that she loved. These people are a wealth of information and I have come to trust their advice on products and services for my dog — that is something that I can’t find at a big box store and that I highly value.
I cannot recommend this store more highly, and I hope that they stay here forever!

This is an adorable little store. They carried both the type of litter and type of cat food I normally buy online and usually have trouble finding in person. The person working there was very friendly and helpful. There’s a cute dog park in the back, but even though my cat fetches, I don’t think he’d appreciate it properly. Check it out!

We buy food for our gray (like his soul) tabby here. It’s a little more expensive, but the difference comes out to pocket change and we can support the friendliest store owner ever and her neighborhood business. As others have written, it’s not the biggest store ever, but there’s still decent variety on the shelves and they’re more than happy to talk to you, make recommendations, and then special order for you. I have no issue with Petco and I’m happy that there’s one down the street now, but going to Fido and Kitty’s is just a much more pleasant experience and a small but regular investment in where we live.

I walked past this store by chance. I did not even know it was opened 3 months ago. The store is small but it does not bother me, that is what boutique store is like. There was no other customer in the shop yesterday, so we got the attention of the sole staff. She was friendly and knowledgeable. There was no cat food lying around (as stated by other Unilocaler) so my food crazy dog did not get a chance to stuff himself and gain those extra weight he does not need. The dog park at the back is beautiful, but my dog has separation anxiety so we cannot leave him out there. The price is slight higher than other chain store, but I don’t mind, because you get better service. The service I received is 10 times better than Petco, which is going to be my next review. If I am not mistaken, the rule of using the dog park is the dog need a DC dog tag and owner has to be a customer.
Bought some grain free dog chew from the store, no doubt I will be back from time to time to get treats and dental stuff for my sausage dog.
Glad there is one in Petworth.

As the owner of 2 dogs and a cat in Petworth I am so happy to have this great little boutique pet supply store in our neighborhood! The owner has been welcoming and is very knowledgeable about food and ingredients. I was worried that the prices would be much higher than the big box stores but her prices are quite competitive and I am definitely willing to pay a few dollars more per large bag of dog food to keep a small business thriving in our neighborhood.
The dog park out back is a nice addition and I am planning to bring a coffee and my dogs there for play when the weather warms a little.
All in all a great addition to the Upshur /​Georgia neighborhood!

I’m a Petworth resident and owner of a young Australian Cattle Dog, Ruby. I was super excited to hear Fido and Kitty’s World was opening just a few short blocks from my house. I know there is some worry that due to the recent opening of Petco in Columbia Heights, this store will never make it, but it is really a very different concept. The store offers higher end products and seems specifically geared toward the raw-​food, grain-​free diets that are now gaining popularity. Suffice to say I really wanted to like this place and support a new local business. Color me disappointed.
The minute Ruby and I entered I realized how small and claustrophobic the place is, which can be a bit disorienting for dogs. As I’m glancing at the first wall of supplies I look down and Ruby is nearly finished eating a bowl of cat food that was sitting in a bowl on the floor. What kind of pet store keeps food out in the open (and right by the front door?) Stop doing that.
Ruby and I wander the small store waiting for the single employee to at least acknowledge us. The employee is talking to one other customer the entire time I am there and I am really just looking for a quick «I’ll be right with you.» Nothing. I wonder if we can go check out the back play area but he seems too busy to be asked. We check it out anyway. It is cute and quite nice– but small.
Finally we reenter the store and I’m hoping to buy something — just to support the business. But the single sales associate is still working with the other customer and does not acknowledge me for another 5 minutes. So Ruby and I head out, empty handed.
I want to like Fido and Kitty’s World and I think I can — so please take the criticism and make some changes (and we will be back.)
