I just read on Twitter that this place closed down. If that’s true, it’s a shame; our neighborhood desperately needs a place that is walk-​able and sells fresh groceries. Unfortunately, Field to City was a poorly-​run business. Just as an example, it was never clear when they were open — the owner kept lights off even when they were open, and the front door was always gated up, making it look abandoned from the street. After he stopped selling groceries this summer — and trust me, I begged him to reconsider — I stopped frequenting his store. I just hope that this closure doesn’t discourage other businesses with a similar model from moving into the Bloomingdale/​Eckington Area. We want it! Just run it like a business, not a hobby.

First of all, they are dog friendly which means a lot these days. They have great options and awesome inspiration to stay healthy and eat local. The owner is super sweet and will help you find anything that you need. Also, the ice cream is really good.

Great produce. Grass-​fed milk. Good rotating beer selection. This is what local, independent shopping is all about. Kim knows his stuff.

The best. The owner, Kim, lives in the neighborhood and is always there. Prices are expensive but only because the ingredients are quality… Kim runs a very honest business. Also is very knowledgeable about wines and stocks some delicious ones as low as $ 10 – 15

The reviews on here that call this place «hipster“are ridiculous. We are anything but, and we love it and the owner (Kim? He’s the local dog whisperer). Calling it this also misses the point: you can go here for very high quality, very specific product and produce, much of which is locally sourced. So you can’t your Jiff peanut butter here… But you can get gorgeous potatoes and veggies, fresh and delicious meat, and really good, reasonably priced wine, etc. Kim is very knowledgable about what he has and makes excellent wine suggestions depending on your taste and budget. Also, if you chat with him, he chats with you. He tells wonderful stories about the dogs he has in residence and is just overall a really interesting man. I love having him in the neighborhood.

The tits. If you’re into CSA, organics, and sustainable agriculture this place is for you. They have Polyface farm products which is some of the arguably best meats on the east coast. And if you’re a veggie head like me there is a daily list of organic veggies from the area that gets updated as the day goes on. This place isn’t gonna be for everyone, but everyone is stupid anyways.

What more can you ask for from a neighborhood market?
Kim, the owner of the store, perches himself outside on a patio with dogs from the neighborhood that he walks. As you approach, he smiles and says hello. He explains they specialize in organic and local products, and have some good deals on alcohol and some great sales if you love produce. His hours, perfectly adjusted for the average 9-​to-​5ers. Yes, his stuff is more pricey than Harris Teeter, but I don’t know a convenience store that is cheaper, and this one has better products or stuff you can’t find anywhere else (Imported Red Curry Sauce, anyone?)
The only thing to complain about, they only take cash. So be prepared. Otherwise, this place is a true gem and great addition to Bloomingdale.

Don’t have cash? Then don’t come here– cuz we don’t want you here. That is a terrible reason to give F2C 1 star– cuz they don’t take credit cards.
Everything is locally grown, and they care dearly about all of the food that goes through the market, and especially their customers. If you are in Bloomingdale, this is where you will get the freshest foods.

Love this place, very fresh, knowledgable, super friendly and helpful. Not the biggest selection but I’ve seen worse and the service couldn’t have been beat.

This place is awesome, dude just gave me a free 6 pack cause it was about to be past its pole date!

Don’t shop here if you want to be treated with any respect. I had a question about services I purchased (pet care — another of owner Kim Wee’s businesses), and I was treated so rudely that I could not return.

Timor Bodega /​Field to City is… interesting. Don’t go there expecting the owner to be nice and friendly. Instead, expect an awkward cash only establishment with a markup on products you can purchase in the suburbs. Great for last minute items and if you like glass container milk. But not a great value. I would try to support him more if he was friendlier and accepted credit cards.

So — off the bat — I already feel out of place for not being hipster. But, to top it off, I get in line to «checkout» I am told that they only take cash. WTF. Too cool for school (scratch that) credit cards.
Is there a posted sign that I’m missing that reads «we are still stuck in the 20^th century and only take cash… we feel that makes us more wholesome, natural, and organic.» *eye roll*

Never had a negative experience here. Fantastic wine and beer selection with reasonable prices — i.e. exactly what you expect to pay for a unique beer (plus the tax is included in the price you see on the shelf.)
The comments about the prices being high is true in some sense; however, if you’re buying organic I think you should expect to pay a bit more no matter where you go. I also agree with the comments that there could be more local produce. That being said, there are farmer’s markets in the neighborhood, and he also does a produce basket where you get in-​season veggies for a set price that is lower than what you’d find elsewhere.
I’ve found the owner to be extremely helpful. I asked about home-​made pastas the other day (I’m from an Italian neighborhood in Rhode Island, so I love me some homemade ravioli once in a while!), and while he didn’t have any, he hopped right on his computer to help me find some in DC.
Not sure why you’d be against buying cage-​free, humane meats and dairy… but if you are, go somewhere else.
So. There you have it: a nice little organic bodega. I buy my eggs there when I run out and need some asap, I’ll get a bottle of wine or some fancy beer if I have the money, and I make use of the produce. And who can complain about the free basil and thyme outside?

Timor is great for what it is, which is a small organic grocery store with an amazing beer and wine selection (Crooked Line Labyrinth? Vinho verde, amazing). Also the organic ice cream will leave you sockless.
Kim is a man of few words but he is not rude. If you need to be coddled through or validated by your purchase, this ain’t for you. He does not take credit cards, not for favorite customers, not for anyone — he does let you run a tab, and he shows no favoritism in this regard.
I don’t understand the haters on Unilocal,but I do understand that Timor is a nice little neighborhood joint.

I’ve only been to this place once and it was not a pleasant experience. I was very excited to go here as I had read the Unilocal reviews, I love organic goodness, and my roomies had said wonderful things about it.
Me and my beau went here in search of items to go with pasta for dinner, and beer. We were not disappointed in the selection. In fact, I was SUPER happy to find they had bones I could bring home to my doggy and they have an amazing beer selection. The entire time we are browsing, the store owner standed at the register glaring at us. I do not exaggerate the glaring, it was quite uncomfortable.
Then we went up to pay (we had sauce, cheese, hummus, and beer) and It ended up being a bit more expensive than expected but that isn’t what bothered me. I took out my card to pay (I checked the store accepted cards here on Unilocal beforehand) and he angrily said, «I do not take cards.» Weird. Thankfully, my guy had cash so we paid and left without another word being said to us. (No «thank you» no «come again»). All the food was delicious, but I won’t be returning.
I literally live a few blocks from this place and I want a Lagunitas beer RIGHT NOW, but because I don’t want to endure the glares and rude treatment I can’t bring myself to go there. A neighborhood store shouldn’t be like that! I’m really not sure what he didn’t like about us… and I really don’t get why he didn’t take my card (unless he doesn’t take cards then the info needs to be changed).
I guess he only is nice to you and allows you to use your credit card if he thinks you are going to shop there a lot? I’m not sure. It makes me a sad… I really want some Lagunitas! And I would have gone there a lot. HMPH!

I love this place. It’s weird, yes, and Kim is somewhat off as a shop owner. You enter the store from the back. He sometimes changes prices on you, but it’s never been to his benefit, at least based on the price sticker. And yes, you can find what you need at Giant, HT, and Whole Foods, but he is just around the corner when you need eggnog or some smelly cheese at the last minute. His wine and beer selection is top notch, and he often will share a bit of an open bottle with you. He has good produce — yes, only in season. And his eggs and milk are delicious. I love Timor Bodega.

More like Timor Hipster Convenience Store. It’s a perfect place to stop by on your fixie and spend $ 40 filling your retro messenger bag with a six-​pack of beer and some pre-​packaged organic crap to eat before The Unicorns show.
Timor Bodega: for people too cool and ironic to shop at Whole Foods, but not so cool and ironic as to shop at Giant or Safeway.
After asking if they had cantaloupe in late July, I was matter-​of-​factly informed that melons are «not in season.» If the height of summer isn’t cantaloupe season, then you can take that $ 3 organic cucumber and shove it up…
Timor Bodega: for people who espouse the virtues of local produce and farming, yet have never actually set foot on a real farm.
Customer at Timor Bodega: «Oh, I only buy food that is all-​natural and organic. All my meat and dairy are cruelty-​free and humane. I can’t stand the thought of poor animals suffering.» Translation: «Oh, I only buy food at places that are so ridiculously overpriced that the neighborhood riff-​raff can’t afford to shop. All my guilt is washed away by using the cruelty-​free and humane nonsense as a cover. I can’t stand the smell of poor people.»
Timor Bodega: for the cutting-​edge urban elite who are disgusted at the thought of waiting in line with folks who use food stamps.

I’ve been here enough times to know that I hate the place. My first experience at Timor involved paying $ 22 for a bag of lentils. That one was my fault for being the idiot who didn’t realize until it was too late. (I later bought the same lentils at Wholefoods for $ 2 and some change.)
My biggest problem with Timor is the pricing. Almost everything Kim sells, you can find at Giant, Safeway or even Wholefoods for much, much cheaper. And Giant is as ghetto as it gets! I don’t understand why people think Timor is so cool. People actually drive here from other neighborhoods? Drive here for Big Bear. Don’t drive here for crappy selection and overpriced EVERYTHING. If you really have that much extra cash floating around, donate it.
Also, Kim is weird. He’s not particularly nice and he makes up his prices willy nilly.
My last piece of advice, if you’re going to shop here, is don’t plan your meal and then try to find the ingredients at Timor; go to Timor, see what limited selection Kim has that day, and then plan your meal accordingly. Because you will never find half the things on your list.

I’m very conflicted about Timor. The idea is great: a «bodega» with a selection of natural/​organic products, including fruits, vegetables, dairy and meats, plus a small but good selection of wine and beer (think Arogant Bastard and Brother Thelonius).
Where Kim falls flat is in his execution: the store is often closed, and items are frequently out of stock.
That being said, it’s a good place to hit after the Bloomingdale Farmer’s Market; if they don’t have it there, they probably have it here. Just be warned: you have to pay a deposit on the bottle that the Trickling Springs milk comes in.
