I would give zero, but that’s not an option.
I just moved to the area, and needed someone to tend to my front yard bi-​weekly for the summer season. I reached out to this vendor through Unilocal.I was pleased that he was able to meet me in two days to give me an estimate, and start work in four days.
Day One: we were supposed to meet at my place at 2pm, as he would be finished with his first job at 1pm. At 3pm, he still hadn’t showed up, so I reached out. At 3:30, needing to pick up my dog, I reached out for a final time. This time he answered, and told me his first job ran over, and that he would be unable to make it. I confirmed he would still be able to start work on the date we previously spoke of (Monday). He said he would, and apologized for not showing up.
I confirmed via email two days and one day before our next scheduled meeting. This would be the third confirmation for our scheduled Monday afternoon meeting.
I arrived home at 11:30am to prepare for our meeting. I was informed that I must provide all tools, so I was getting yard tools, trash bags, etc, ready for about 30 minutes. At noon, our scheduled time, I went to grab my phone incase I needed to reach out again. I had missed a phone call from him 10 minutes earlier. I immediately called back, and I was told that because I didn’t answer his phone call, he was going to his next appointment.
I have worked in the design industry for over 8 years. NEVER have I witnessed this before. I mentioned that he never stated that he would call when he was on his way, which is a standard business practice. Had I known this was his policy, of course I would have been much more vigilant, and watched out for his call. I also mentioned that we had confirmed OVER three times for this appointment, and that he just never showed up for our last appointment. He just restated that he called me, and I never answered. He called me once, then minutes prior to our scheduled meeting.
The old adage «good help is hard to find» is true. No one is perfect, and I understand things come up. However, I have serious concerns about this individuals ethics as a whole. I am glad I did not get too far into my yard project to realize that dealing with this person was a mistake. I hope you’re able to learn from my wasted time, and look for someone else!
