What a disappointment. There is sort of a menu in the window before you walk in but none when you get inside. The toppings sit wilted, crusty and lukewarm on a buffet. With the prices at Falafel & Koshary you wouldn’t expect their food to taste like Middle Eastern fast food. When I dined in the restaurant was empty except for the two employees and one of their friends. They were sitting around talking, which didn’t bother me until I noticed that the tables were scattered with crumbs, as was the floor. While eating, the cook came out and sat down next to me and started flipping through channels on the tv. I repeat, the restaurant was practically empty. Do not eat here.

Expensive, smelly(not in a good way), and definitely the worst falafel i’ve ever had. i see why we were the only people in there. $ 11 for what in any other place would be a $ 4 falafel and unfortunately a vey bad one. I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. They got my money, don’t let them get yours.

Sara L. basically covered it. This place IS filthy. As an Egyptian, I felt personally ashamed. My friend grabbed a rice pudding container from the fridge and there was a dead ant on the lid! Unfortunately I was desperate for the bathroom. Almost gagged walking in there. The owners are very strange indeed to say the least. I asked the lady if she was Egyptian, she said yes. But I don’t know, every time I talked to her in Arabic she’d stare blankly at me. Mind you, she didn’t even seem to understand when I spoke English. I won’t even talk about the food, because after shelling over $ 9 for the small plate, which was basically a couple spoonfuls, I was just trying to swallow the food without throwing up from disgust. It looked like they served it on some plates that hadn’t seen dish soap in their lifetime that they probably grabbed from their own house, and plastic forks. Disgusting. Stay away for your own health and hygiene.

Delicious Koshari! I lived in Cairo for study and felt this meal was just as authentic as on the streets. A+ Negatives: EXTREMELYEXPENSIVE! I was shocked when I was charged $ 12.95 for a moderate plate portion of koshari. Even more appalled with a $ 2.95 charge for a can of soda. I went during the busy lunch time(between 12:00 — 12:45) and I was their only customer. If you are a first timer to koshari or are nostalgic for a plate of Egyptian memories this is a definite one-time dine. For just a routine meal, dine elsewhere!

So I went here today. I didn’t realize it had opened and as soon as I saw the sign, I stopped in despite having just eaten to get some koshary to-go for dinner. I have had koshary many times in Egypt. I knew it wouldn’t have the under-1-dollar price tag that it has in Egypt, but I really do not think what I was charged(10.95) was justifiable for the following reasons. 1) The place was really, really dirty — bordering on filthy. I wouldn’t order a meat dish from here. 2) They charged 10.95 for the koshary 3) The portion is pretty small. At 11 dollars, I would expect a pretty large serving given that the ingredients are nothing special or difficult to obtain in the US(macaroni, beans, fried onions, tomato sauce, etc). 4) Customer service is lacking in a big way. The woman working there acted very strangely. She couldn’t make change for a 20 on an $ 11 total and she took a phone call and then walked away to peek out the window for several minutes while I stood at the register waiting for her to ring me up. I’m not a demanding customer, but it would have taken her 15 seconds to take my 11 dollars and give me 5 cents back. 5) Did I mention it was filthy? Onto the koshary itself: it tastes okay save for the fried onions that tasted as if they were fried a couple days ago or recently in old oil. I think a koshary and falafel place in Georgetown has a lot of potential, especially in catching a late night crowd. But they really need to step up the level of cleanliness and customer service.
