H&R Block

I had very simple taxes in terms of what these people see on a daily basis. I came, we tried to do my taxes, there was a computer error so they sent me home. Four days later I called to check in on needing to make a second appointment and they said they were swamped because its tax season (which makes sense) but I was there four days before and they couldn’t complete my taxes, I should be able to get a second appointment! I finally, over a week later, got in and we finished them but they charged me for two sessions and I am not convinced they are done right. The woman I had was nice but I would not go back. The two stars is because she seemed like she was genuinely trying but I would happily pay double for a CPA who isn’t trying to rip me off.

Worst customer service, so unprofessional! I had an appointment at 9am. I was there 10 mins early just to in case, it’s 9:10am & we are still not called. The receptionist comes up to us at 9:15am saying the tax preparer is running late & she will be 5 – 10 more mins. 20 minutes late she is still no there! So unprofessional!!!

The service I paid for — $ 345 BTW — consisted of the tax professional taking personal phone calls and ordering food while she was helping me. To add insult to injury, corporate wasn’t the least bit helpful with my complaint, simply saying the solution was to «note» my complaint. Save your money and your sanity — use Turbotax.

My husband and I went after making an appointment. (Going the the last week of Feburary, they weren’t too busy yet for taxes). We were «helped» quickly.
However, «helped» consisted of the lady telling us that we’d be better off doing our own taxes, despite our insistance that we wanted to pay. It seemed like… she just wanted us to go away? It was so weird. We had all the forms, and our tax situation is pretty standard.
We went home and did our own our federal taxes online using the website, but got stuck on the state (DC/​MD) taxes because the H&R website doesn’t allow partial year. (That’s a separate issue, this review is just for this particular office.)
So my husband went back to this H&R block store today. Again, they told him to just do them ourselves. They wouldn’t take our money, and again he was turned away. Apparently filing partial year state taxes is annoying, and the employees there don’t really feel like doing that.
Do they not want our money?

I came in on time. A little mix-​up with appointment times as I had to reschedule the day before. No biggie.
I met with Miriam and she was so awesome. She started my return since my original preparer was overbooked but specialized in NY taxes so I had to wait. I had returns from 3 different states and she even picked up a mistake on my W-​2s! They’re very professional, all about community service. Highly recommended. Just prepare for some minor administrative issues like appointment time discrepancies.

Great service… get the A/​C fixed!

So I’m finally a grown up and had to do my taxes… but in the last year I had worked in Ohio and Maryland (and worked for the state and for the city of Dublin in Ohio), and live in DC… Im sorry what?!
In a panic I went to this H&R block right after work. I was so glad I did! I was there for about an hour — hour and a half. A long time, but the man helping me went through everything
.step. It was so helpful and saved me from reading tax books and trying to figure them all out.
Plus, it is literally on the metro. When you come out the 14^th and U exit of the metro, it is right next to the exit, across the street from Ben’s Chili Bowl.
I did make an appointment and I’m glad I did. When I showed up no one was waiting, but by the time I left people were definitely in line to get someone to see them. If you are in a tizzy, call them up and walk right in. Hassle free, but bring your check book.
