I work across the street form this place. Usually come in because they have pretty good lunch specials. I really like the fried rice and the hibachi.

Went for lunch with a friend — was really hoping to support the local sushi place. However, the sushi was just bad and ended up getting my friend sick. Mine was the ground kind with spicy mayo and it tasted off; my friend’s was sashimi and the fish had a peculiar pallor and mouth feel. He cursed their name later that evening. You don’t want to mess around with raw fish, and given this experience, I will not be returning.

Stumbled upon this sushi joint that actually has everything from Korean to Vietnamese to Japanese and Thai food. We ordered a Hawaiian Poke appetizer, escolar sashimi, salmon sashimi, and drunken noodles. The drunken noodles was a bit too spicy, but the noodles were good. Any meat on the noodles cost extra, so we ordered just noodles. The sashimi took 30 minutes to arrive at the table and the poke appetizer took 45 minutes to arrive at the table. There was some sort of «printer problem», so after 29 minutes, the waiter came to our table to tell us that our order never got put in and would be out in 4 minutes. Unfortunately, it still took another 10 minutes for the chef to cut the sashimi and another 25 minutes for them to cut the tuna sashimi. To make up for it, the waiter gave us some miso soup. The miso soup was devoid of anything in it, except miso. Yeah, I’m sorry, but when it takes you 45 minutes to cut a couple pieces of raw fish, I can’t justify ever going back here.

The food was good. There were some mishaps that then became worst and worst. The service overall then was absolutely terrible from here. Both the server and the manager were absolutely rude to me and my friends. I will never eat here again

Great sushi, both maki and custom rolls. We also received complimentary miso soup and shots of plum wine. Service was prompt and courteous. DEFINITELY recommend!

Mediocre sushi fake happy hour where they take 95 cents off rolls and beer. No separate happy hour menu. Good service

One — Food is good. We are very pleased with the quality of food. Two — Amazing service! Three — They made the mishaps insignificant by providing us a real good service. Four — They are definitely DEAF-Friendly! They are learning some sign language.

Hands down this is my spot, love the down and both upstairs, the bartenders are amazing and its really a home experience. Jamal downstairs makes it feel like the Cheers experience, where everyone knows your name. Great place, and I continue to go here! The experience is so good forgot to mention that food is awesome as well! Took my parents here first time upstairs to the dinning area they loved it, and we also got free shots!

Not the best sushi in town but it did the trick. The place is located in what I consider«a sketchy neighborhood» so curb your enthusiasm as you walk around, smiles are very few and far between. Service was prompt and I ate like the little piggy that I am. My wife ordered some meat dish and was satisfied. I preferred the rolls to the sushi. Eel avocado was good. Salmon was okay. Yellow-tail was sad. Price was a little high in relation to the quality but I’m just being picky now. I would go back and I might.

I’ve been here a few times but this is my first review. This is a really chill spot on H st that’s cozy and inviting. When I walked in I was immediately greeted by the bartender and asked, «What can I get you?» I ordered a tequila sunrise, which by the way was one of the best ones I’ve ever had in DC. I can’t drink on an empty stomach so we ordered the Edamame as an appetizer and small entrees. I had some sort of noodle vegetarian meal that was ample in serving and very tasty. My date had some hibachi that looked really flavorful. The service was really great! The bartender gave everyone at the bar complimentary shots and kept checking on us to make sure everyone was okay. The music was really good and I had a great time. I will definitely come again.

We had a great lunch here today. Everything was very fresh and tasty. Cocktails were very yummy! The service was awesome! The place is a little loud, but still a nice place.

Excellent sushi. We didn’t know what to expect because when you walk in on the ground floor is a R&B lounge bar. But when you walk upstairs you’re greeted by a Japanese décor sushi bar. Odd marriage but it works. This sushi restaurant is really good. We ordered a combo of different dishes and were not disappointed at all. The noise from the downstairs bar can be a bit loud but don’t let that stop you from coming here.

Ate here with my wife during our 1st anniversary DC trip. Place was within walking distance from our hotel and Capitol area. They gave miso soup on the house; my Drunken Noodle was spicy and great, her Udon noodle with chicken was delicious and service was quick and friendly. Drinks were a little pricey, but we are headed down the street to a bar for the night cap. Would eat here again.

Okay it’s official! This is my fave sushi restaurant in the H St/CapHill area! Woohoo! We’ve been here twice this month and it hasn’t disappointed! This time I got the sushi shrimp platter with a variety of shrimp rolls and a couple of shrimp nigiri. And it came with seaweed salad which I devoured! The complimentary miso was the bomb on a cold day. Pete(I think that’s his name?) the server/host extraordinaire was super friendly filled our waters quickly, took our orders swiftly and asked us for dessert at the end. We honestly were stuffed, but when he came out with a green tea mochi(a half for each of us!) it was the perfect finish to our delicious meal! Can’t wait to come back again!

The saketini goes down far too easily at Hikari(«light») Sushi bar, the drink’s a deceiving combo of sake and vodka with raspberry and pineapple juices, not too sweet, $ 11. Two levels like so many other H St converted row houses: sushi bar upstairs, neighborhood bar downstairs, but nothing on tap on any level, not even sake. Miso soup is standard, you don’t have to order it, mine arrived much clearer(less murky) than many miso bowls I’ve had, good. Also tried the shumai(steamed shrimp and veg dumplings), 6 pcs for $ 6, perfectly hot and served with a side of dipping sauce with scallions, a fine accompaniment to that saketini! Double decker spicy tuna tempura for $ 12 was an 8-piece flavor bomb. but I guess purists would roundly condemn me for ordering a maki roll that’s been battered and fried! Hey in my defense I thought just the fish inside would be given the tempura treatment, but no, the whole thing went into the fryer. Anyhow the spicy tuna tartar on top really made it great. Veg rating: 3 stars, the options include udon veg soup, veggie roll combo, avocado roll, cucumber roll, seaweed salad, hibachi vegetables, egg and tofu sushi(?), even a tofu shiso roll. That’s much better than most sushi places! Traditional sushi for you? Note the menu options: maguro(tuna) «sushi» gets you 2 pieces of fish on rice; ordering the same thing«sashimi» gets you 3 pieces of fish only(no rice) — and remember that the sashimi option costs $ 1 – 4 more. Mango was ripe when I visited and the mango sticky rice plate was excellent, great finish, $ 6. Totally random 80s music upstairs, a little more urban and rap downstairs.

I love the split personality of this place — a neighborhood bar downstairs and sushi bar upstairs. It has been called the Cheers of H street by a few, and i like that description — a lot of regulars there and they all seem to know each other and the bartenders. You can get the same great Japanese and Asian-American fusion items whether you are upstairs or downstairs, but the best people-watching is always on the lower level. It’s a casual place with great food, friendly people and it’s on the end of H Street with relatively easy parking(for now anyway). If you want more of a traditional sushi experience, do not pass go, head directly upstairs and that’s your sweet spot. The sashimi is great, the chicken wings and the calamari are winners, the Korean items are all pretty good as well. Enjoy it, but don’t tell them that I sent you — I’m trying to blend in with the regulars.
