Jake’s is the place to go for a good drink and a good conversation. Plenty of room to cut up and decent prices. Skye is an excellent bartender and can’t wait to come back and visit her. Fireball!!!

My husband and I live in the neighborhood and have been here a few times to grab a bite and watch the game. The service has been consistently mediocre and the last visit it was just awful. It took almost 10 minutes to get out order taken and then it was incorrect. I ordered sliders that were not well done as requested and missing the cheese. We later ordered refills on our soda and they never came. When we brought our concerns to the server, they brushed off and offered a free drink. Wil not be returning.

Billy the new bartender makes me feel a part of a community. Food is pretty good and Billy always provides a fun atmosphere for me and my friends. Bring a group on an off night and you will feel like the place is yours.

We just finished brunch here and cleaned our plates. We ordered the veggie burger and upgraded to truffle fries, and the sweet potato pancakes.

Probably the saddest excuse for a sports bar. Caps jerseys everywhere but no caps game on any of their TVs. They made the debate a priority over a capitals game. Food is decent but having the debate blasting on the audio and kids screaming in the bar. it’s not how I want to relax and watch sports just change it to daycare and political bar and remove all this sports décor so it can make sense

Went for brunch and had a great time. They have lots of games while you wait for food and drinks. Ordered the chicken & waffles, got two piping hot pieces of chicken and a full waffle. The chicken was excellent, wonderful seasoning. Shared an order of home fries, had to order more because they were so good. Love that they put a carafe on your table if you’re getting bottomless mimosas. Saves everyone the hassle of tracking down your server for a refill. Everyone was super friendly, attentive and good with kids(big plus). Will add this to my list of places to hit during football season.

Should be 21+ downstairs! Why are there kids around me when I’m drinking. Friendly staff, but I don’t want a children’s birthday party while I drink. This is not Chuckie Cheese.

Decent neighborhood bar, but nothing to write home about. We started coming here on Wednesdays for Trivia Kings after the bar where it used to meet had an unfortunate fire last months. It’s a big out of the way and not super easy to get to. That aside, the basement is plenty spacious and there are a ton of board games that would probably be fun for a low-key night with friends sometime. The sweet potato fries are good when they’re hot. The nachos and slides are solid but not super memorable. The Srirarcha burger and chicken tenders are ok, but wouldn’t get either again. For the record, we split food — I didn’t eat all of this myself, ha.

Nice neighborhood spot to watch the game. They run food and drink specials during NFL games($ 26 tower of Miller Lite, $ 32 tower of Blue Moon). There are a lot of kids here at times, which is definitely something to consider depending on why you are going. The food is well-executed bar food(burgers, sandwiches, chicken tenders, etc.). There are also lots of games available to play while you are there-great for the friends in the group that are a little less interested in the«big game». We had a great time playing Big Buck Hunter and Jenga and there were probably 50 other board/card games available. The servers were a little MIA, but you can order from the bar and it wasn’t that crowded when we went so it didn’t deter us too much. Overall– its a solid sports bar that we would return to if meeting people in the area for a game!

This place is AMAZING!!! The staff, the games, the food and the fact they have someone to entertain the kids on weekend brunch time and Wednesday trivia nights! Seriously — every neighborhood should have a place like this!!! Love, Love, love it!!!

All children’s night on Saturday. We are from out of town and thought we’d check out the place. Seems pretty good… except literally every table contained children(sometimes with children). Shocking. By 8:30 most had cleared out. Otherwise, good food, good drinks. Good atmosphere.

Apparently this place becomes a day care center on Saturday nights. We came here enjoy football and some beer and shout profanity at the TV. Instead we had to try and avoid getting hit in the head with darts thrown around by 5 year olds. There were more kids here than adults! Also the shuffleboard table wasn’t working…

Good food and really cool atmosphere with tons of board games. My husband and I enjoyed dinner at Jake’s upstairs several weeks before attending trivia night at Jake’s Boiler Room with two other friends. We’d all read great reviews and looked forward to trying it. We were very disappointed though. Our waitress was horrible, as was the service in general. She forgot our drink orders several times and messed up our food orders as well… There were 15 people there tops so it wasn’t a busy night. Our checks were wrong and my husband and I ended up paying for two extra beers because after she corrected one mistake, she forgot to take the extra beers off the check and we were so tired of dealing with it, we just wanted to leave. We were disappointed especially because of our great experience dining upstairs at Jake’s and all the great Unilocal reviews, but our experience was not a good one.

3.25 Stars Jake’s American Grill has been open for a couple of years now, offering a much needed casual option on the stretch of Connecticut Avenue between Cleveland Park and Chevy Chase. Lesser well known is the basement of Jake’s, known as the Boiler Room. It’s reminiscent of someone’s rec room/man cave, with a pool table, darts, nine flat screen TVs lining the walls, and college sport team flags hanging on the ceilings. The entrance is down a set of stairs to your left as you enter the restaurant. It’s a bit grungy in the beginning gets nicer as the corridor opens into the large, open room. It’s kid friendly with lots of high chairs, board and arcade games to keep the little ones occupied. As for the drinking and dining options, the largely pedestrian 18 draft beers aren’t going to make this a destination for the beer snob, but standouts include Anchor Steam, Palm Amber, and Port City Monumental. The food menu is more limited than that of the upstairs restaurant and includes the kind of pub grub you might expect from a neighborhood sports bar like wings, burgers and fried. The $ 3BBQ pulled pork sliders($ 2 at happy hour) were unexpectedly good. It’s not for everyone, but Jake’s Boiler Room offers a good alternative to neighboring Comet Ping Pong if you’re just looking to catch a game or have a few beers with a bud.

This place is still rad, but I have to take away a star for them hosting a 16-year-old’s birthday party here on a Friday night at 10:30. What parent allows their teenager to have a birthday party at a bar?!? The owner said we were welcome to stay and hang out at the bar, but we didn’t really want to hang out and drink amongst teens. We were relegated to the boring bar upstairs in the main restaurant, forced to listen to sleepy John Mayer and Goo Goo Dolls tunes, though they were showing the hockey game which wasn’t so bad. We finally went down to the Boiler Room anyway and luckily most of the kiddos were gone, and they were playing some good jams(Rihanna, some hip hop and stuff) and had a live DJ, though it was still pretty empty. My date spilled his drink at the bar and the bartender immediately asked what he had(as he had gotten it at the bar upstairs) and replaced it for free. Great customer service!

Very good selection of beers on tap. Free copies of NYT, WP and USA Today on the bar. Great sliders and delicious prime rib sandwich. Very accommodating on getting your game on the screen nearest you. Friendly staff and owners. Nice customers. Food is better than average for a sports bar but it is not Range, Ripple or Palena. But then neither are the prices.

Saw the reviews and decided to check it out. Good choice! Drinks were reasonably priced, food was quite good. The wings were typical bar wings. However, the sriacha burger was awesome!!! Spicy but not overwhelming and one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Another plus was pool, darts and games are all free.

I can’t believe I haven’t gotten around to putting something in writing about the legend that is Jake’s boiler room. Jake’s is a hidden gem for the Van Ness/Chevy chase crowd. It’s a lower level bar below Jake’s American Grill right on Connecticut. The best way to describe Jake’s is a Man Cave; it has video games, pool tables, darts, and lots of fun people in house for conversation. There’s a lot more to Jake’s than just that, though; the bartenders(especially John) are some of the most friendly and down to earth individuals in DC, and will always make you feel like home. They’re happy to put anything on TV you’d like to see, and generally have a lot of very real personality. The food here is some of the best bar food I have ever had. The Boiler Room shares a menu with the upstairs establishment, which has a wide array of very carefully prepared and delicious dishes. The Fish tacos are great, and the various other bar foods i’ve stuffed down my gullet after entirely too many beers we’re also tasty… I think. Great Nachos! If you live within striking distance, visiting Jake’s should be an obligation.
