Solid coffee, fair prices(rare in DC for the quality you get here), FRESH ingredients. I typically stick with the classics so if you like Bacon Egg and Cheese Bagels, this review is for you. The bagels are plump and toasted to perfection with a slightly crisp outside and a doughy inside. The egg is made from actual eggs, neatly folded onto the pillow’y bagel sandwich along with the gooey cheese. Finally, the bacon stole the show for me. Healthy portions of savory salty bacon top off this morning delight. Also, to-go order was smartly wrapped in aluminum foil to lock in the heat and prevent the melted cheese from solidifying — too many shops miss this crucial detail! Overall, a solid morning sandwich which is often too large for me to finish in a single sitting(hurray for leftovers!). Ok ok, I understand some of the negative comments on here about credit cards and ambiance etc. Consumers nowadays don’t have the same cash carrying habits of older generations, and perhaps the owner could invest in some new furniture and/or lighting(or in my opinion, take more advantage of the huge floor to ceiling windows). But I get the feeling that many people in the neighborhood like Java House just the way it is. Like the old man said to his wife of many years, «please never change.» At the end of the day this is a solid, down-to-earth coffee shop with killer food. I write this review after a multiple visits, so I have been around the block … literally(my office is around the block from here).

I moved into the immediate neighborhood near Java house and started going here for my coffee and bagel runs. Though its not my favorite ambiance, Java house is consistent with their food and coffee/espresso drinks. Their prices are very reasonable as well. I do really like their coffee and there bagel sandwiches with egg and cheese is one of the best in the neighborhood. I like their coffee and mocha lattes a lot as well. This seems to be a very«locals only» place since I don’t think too many from out of the neighborhood come here for breakfast or coffee. I like doing work at Java house as well though the wifi can be shotty at times. Though, I think my liking for this place is mostly born out of the fact that it is so close in proximity to me. Overall good place but not great.

While the service left something to be desired, the coffee is brilliant, the ham and Swiss panini was fantastic, and it has a cozy little neighborhood diner feel.

Only Visa or Master — ! Delicious coffee, chill neighborhood feel, and efficient staff. It seemed like most of the people in the café were regulars. I’d highly recommend the hazelnut iced coffee or the Americano

DONOTGOHERE They have consistently messed up my order time and time again. Bagel and Lox ISNOT Bagel with Hummus Bagel with cream cheese means that I DOWANT cream cheese!!! So frustrating. Used to be a regular customer but I will never waste my time nor money again. There’s nothing as disappointing as spending $ 10 on a bagel and coming home to find something you don’t want in your bag. :( Bye Java House!

For six years, monday-friday, I’ve gone here every morning for my first cup of coffee. They have the best coffee, incredibly nice staff, and are very quick. Definitely 5 stars

The coffee is fine. Nice outdoor sitting area. The bagel was the worse. Bagels are not fresh and crumble.

On roasting days Java House perfumes the neighborhood with roasting coffee. A seat on the shaded patio is great for people watching and to catch up on weekend reading. Good coffee, friendly staff, fresh bagels at nice prices.

Good coffee, rarely overcrowded, and their bacon and cream cheese bagel sandwich has motivated me to go on many long runs I’d rather have skipped. Just wish they opened earlier on weekdays.

Fairly quick service and tasty espresso. My primary complaint is that I tried to place my order ahead of time via the EatStreet app because I was going to be there during what I expected would be a busy hour, however, the app had them listed as closed. I was already headed in that direction, though, so I continued on my route and(obviously) found them to be open. Definitely a disconnect that day between the store and the app, as I’ve ordered ahead this way before and had no issues.

Service was slow, even though there weren’t many people at the café. The coffee was hot but not that great

The bagel was partly stale. When a customer buys a bagel to go, he might not realize it’s partly stale until he’s some distance away, where it’s hard to get a replacement. Not good-tasting hummus.

No fuss, really great espresso and bean selection. Hipster barista-free if that’s what you’re looking for.

I had a croissant here yesterday morning(a Saturday) and it was stale, not fresh. Be warned. I don’t know how they could serve it. Did I say something, no. Neighborhood place and I love many other things about it, but will never buy a croissant here again. Service is also not good. The outdoors was not open, plenty of staff there, but the waitress took forever to get to me, had to flag her down. She hardly spoke, wasn’t friendly at all. But I’ll go back. I like the coffee, location and appreciate the free wifi. Hope they get fresher croissants to serve in the future.

Eh, it’s a non-Starbucks coffee shop with more food options but just as expensive. I’m not sure what people like about it so much. I find Starbucks more welcoming and more comfortable, but I guess if you actually want some food the sandwiches here are pretty good.

I really like this place – they aren’t as fancy as other coffee shops but everyone has always been pleasant, the coffee good, and the wifi strong. The cookies(not made on-site) are also quite delicious. I think people who hate on this place want to be treated like royalty for purchasing coffee. I personally want very little interaction with my coffee makers, so it suits me. Always busy, and on nice days the patio people watching is superb!

Meh coffee, decent food, definitely a hit or miss service. The people here weren’t too nice to me. Ordering was such a painful process. I ordered a small latte and the lox bagel plate for here. The lady took my card, swiped it, gave my card back, and goes on with the people that came in. Do I need to sign anything? Where’s my receipt? I had to ask for it and all I got was snappy attitude. However, I sense that some people here are regulars, so they were all nice-y nice with each other. My latte was overly hot, and there was absolutely no foam on it. What??? It didn’t taste that great too, which is highly disappointing because the name of this place is Java House, which is quite ironic. I expected them to have great café drinks, but I would prefer Starbucks to this overpriced, sub mediocre latte any day. My lox plate was packed in a to go container. Well, I didn’t ask for to go, but whatever. The cream cheese was frozen, thick. Luckily I found a table to sit down to smear the cream cheese on the bagel when it was still warm, so at least there’s that. It also came with onions(yuck), capers(yuck), 2 tomato slices, a piece of lettuce, and of course, the lox. There was not enough lox to cover my 2 bagel halves. What a disappointment. It seemed overpriced for $ 10, but it was just okay. Pretty patio sitting if you’re able to get a table, cause the inside isn’t so glamorous.

I come to this place a lot because it is close by. It is a decent café but is super over priced. Their breakfast sandwiches are over $ 5 and they don’t even have sausage. That being said, their white mocha is delicious and I will keep going back for it.

After starting to go to First Baptist Church I been starting to go to Java House for my breafast on Sunday morning. Free WiFi and good coffee I found a loop hole in more coffee so I done have to buy a second cup. Check on my check in. Lox bagel, cream cheese, Lettas and tomatos. Nice quit one restroom, coffee grinder, carry out food and drinks. staff is friendly and fast in servceing you. Clean and with coffee smell in the air. Good naber hood and other place to go out to eat. Good place to have a bit. PETS there s nice out door siting an people will tie there pet just out side the seating area and staff will bring them water. Washington Post for sale and people get to know with one another.

I ducked in here to escape the torrential summer rain that started up without warning. The employees there weren’t too happy that day – or perhaps were just exhausted at the mere thought of serving the 10 people that came in within a few minutes. After pondering for awhile, I decided to treat myself to a rather expensive frozen mocha, and asked if they could make it with soy. The lady rang me up, swiped my card, and THEN told me that there’s no milk, so no need to sub with soy. This struck me as odd, but I trusted her. She’s correct – they don’t use milk. They use coffee, and chocolate ice cream. I was rather annoyed that it wouldn’t occur to them that if I asked for soy, that I might be lactose intolerant, and might not be able to take ice cream?! Anyways, they handed me my drink, and given that they were overworked, and I don’t typically react too badly to ice cream, I decided not to raise a fuss. When the rain cleared, I walked quickly back home, taking a few sips of my drink. It was SUPER, super sweet, and a rather unpleasant goopey texture. I also think I got some stale choco ice cream, because it definitely had that«freezer» taste to it. So – the soy thing, plus a very«meh» drink, at a higher than normal price puts it at a 2, in my book. Given that it’s the area, I might give it another try – and order real coffee, rather than anything with ice cream, next time.
