Very homemade feel with food that looks and tastes like its from your mom or grandmom’s kitchen. Service takes AWHILE though so be prepared to be patient…

It looks like a hole in the wall but it is an amazing breakfast joint. I had the bacon egg and cheese sandwich and the bacon was some of the best I’ve ever had. Also the waitstaff was AWESOME

You go here to for the quaint, divey atmosphere, not because the food is anything special. And it’s a little expensive for what you get; for three basic pieces of French toast and coffee I paid $ 8.

It’s a dive. It’s a perfect dive. Bring your cash, ask for a waffle & don’t be a dick. This place is great.

This place is okay. It’s got a very old-school diner feel; the mugs don’t match and it smells like grandma’s attic. The cook/waitress/cashier(all the same person) is very friendly. But, she is usually overwhelmed when there are more than just 2 – 3 people inside. It can take awhile to get some service. The food isn’t anything special, so I think this place is on all of the Washington DC «best» lists because of the old vibe. I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here, but it’s not bad, either. Also, it’s cash only and they don’t have an ATM. Fair warning.

This place is an institution. We like going here once in awhile because it reminds us that Capitol Hill is still a special neighborhood with deep roots in the past. The food is fine, though not great. The prices are low. One detail worth noting: cash only!!!

I really was just on the search for a new little breakfast spot(Come to find out my weekend breakfast spot doesn’t open for breakfast during the week!) and I happened upon Jimmy T’s. Well I’m GLAD they weren’t open! This spot is family owned and operated and they are really nice people, and it seems they have quite a few regulars already. I ordered their combination number six which I absolutely loved because it was perfectly portioned with one egg, two strips of bacon(resist the urge to order 8 more pieces lol, it’s good bacon) and a piece of French toast. Most places really do serve the most ridiculous portions!(Yes, a random rant about portioning bc too much food is bad for you lol!) Because I just could not resist also ordered their cheddar bacon grits.(Hypocrite! Don’t judge me! Lol) Everything tasted great and I fully intend to visit more often! I definitely say try it out… they make their French toast with that thick Texas toast! Yum! I gotta go back for pancakes. ALL of this was sooooo reasonably priced! To be on Capitol Hill… they’re a hidden gem!

Best place for breakfast on Capitol Hill. The old fashioned, Art Deco interior will bring you back to the 1940’s. Homemade soups and grilled cheese are perfect on a rainy day. Breakfast plates are a great value, and their old fashioned waffle iron makes the best pumpkin pancakes ever. The diner has vintage formica countertops and an authentic 1940’s cash register — - and operates as CASHONLY, no credit cards. Millennials are often confused by the«cash only policy», often resulting in confused«millennial Unilocal». MOTHS should leave their giant stroller buggies outside. The diner is kid friendly, but nobody is in the mood for tripping over a stroller. You can play a fun game of «eye spy» here, just look for things like the leg lamp. Family owned and operated, customers are made to feel right at home.

I’m always grateful for divey breakfast spots(«greasy spoons», as my dad is fond of saying). Jimmy T’s is a Capitol Hill breakfast joint that has been around for ages, and doesn’t feel the need to update it’s menu with«locally sourced/small plate/heirloom breed» items, or furnishings with«salvaged barn wood/eco-friendly cushions made from beet juice dye» etc etc etc. The coffee(which was pretty good) is served in old mugs that look like they got rounded up at a town rummage sale. This crowd here seems to be mostly mixed between two groups — middle aged and up, or young families with messy children(I fit into the latter group with my two munchkins). Hipsters are few and far between(for now, at least). The food is pretty good. It’s cheap, it’s simple, it’s served quickly. Nothing outstanding, but it’ll fill you up for half the price of newer, trendier places. Lots of good staples like french toast, pancakes, omelettes, home fries, bacon… omg the bacon. My husband loved it but it was way, way too salty for his taste. Also — check above the bar for menu items that aren’t included on the menu they hand you. Some good specials that I wish I had seen before I ordered! Cash only. Space is limited, so don’t come with a stroller(we learned the hard way).

One of my favorite home environment diner. Their ambiance is 1970’s and their servers know sign language of food on the menu for easy communication. They’re fast and reliable. If you expect 5 star dish, don’t come here but if you expect a homemade breakfast your mom would make this is the place! I almost always get their omelette. The price is very reasonable and diners are friendly too. This place has been going on strong for 40 years!

I vacillate between a 3 and 4 stars for Jimmy’s. A 3 covers the food. Basic breakfast, good but the most exotic offering is avocado with the blt. Unless you count scrapple, a rare treat for us CT Yankees. I drift toward 4 stars when I consider the funky ambiance and friendly service. It’s Capitol Hill, so I guess it’s not too unusual to have a former senator having breakfast at the counter. It is not fancy or new. And it is cozy, if not crowded. I’d recommend it for breakfast and if you are visiting the area, a snapshot of how the locals live.

Jimmy T’s has it all. Good food and good people. Definitely a bit cramped if your a big group, but who cares when the food is delicious and the coffee never stops? The bacon was cooked perfectly and the scrambled eggs with cheese was melt-in-your-mouth status. The staff was super attentive to everyone, and despite the people waiting for a table, no one was rushed out. I’ve been on the Hill for almost 3 years and I’ve not been here before — which is a huge disappointment. I’ll absolutely be back by myself, and I’ll be bringing any guests that come to visit.

This is when I wish Unilocal would allow us to give .5 ratings. I want to give Unilocal a 4 if you live in DC because there’s something refreshing about an all American, no thrills breakfast place just a few blocks away from the US Capitol Building. However, if you’re a tourist, I’d give it a 2 or 3 star because you’ll find the food subpar and the crowd a bit stressful as you try to enjoy a quiet breakfast before you hit the sites. I’ll settle on a three. Jimmy T’s Place is a corner breakfast spot on the corner of a neighborhood in a row house. There’s one floor with three booths, bar seating, and a few other tables all squeezed into a small space. The staff are all business so don’t expect an outgoing introduction or smile to go with your morning coffee. The food is basic American breakfast fare with zero thrills. I ordered the #5– one piece of French Toast, a very small sausage patty, and a half of an egg scrambled. All for $ 4+. It’s cheap and you pay for what you get. If you try to squeeze one too many people around your table, it’s a little much. If you’re in a group, walk over to Barracks Row and to Ted’s Bulletin(if you get get in). That said, Jimmy T’s Place is a landmark on Capitol Hill and in a city where people are on time and in suits, a place like it is refreshing. I think that’s why Capitol Hill residents flock to it. So, if you’re from here, give it a try at least once. If you’re visiting DC, do NOT go here. Head to Eastern Market and Barracks Row for another DC breakfast spot(Market Breakfast or Ted’s Bulletin).

Basic greasy spoon breakfast diner food. I’d literally leave it at that if Unilocal wasn’t so fascist about a review needing to be longer(get with the digital world, Unilocal: 140 characters can say it all). It’s not going to change your world… or ever the way you think about breakfast. But if you’re thinking«shit I want some eggs or pancakes and am too damn lazy to make them myself» then you’ve found your place.

Place is cash only and they don’t put a sign anywhere explaining this. When i asked about it they were pretty rude about it. I had high hopes for them as I love a good greasy spoon. Can’t say much about the food, unremarkable.

I love a greasy spoon and this fits the bill, in a most unlikely place, just two blocks from the Library of Congress and the Supreme Court. Can’t believe I lived about four blocks from here in 1970s and never knew it existed. We never went north, always to PA avenue. At any rate, true greasy spoon with all the food you’d expect, eggs, great home fries and an owner and staff that like to interact like Flo from Mel’s Diner. Great, unexpected, experience on Cap. Hill. I’ve convinced myself. Taking the PA Ave. bus there right now.

Writing an update. I’m pretty disappointed. I’ve gone about a dozen times since I wrote my first review, when this place was still my favorite. Now I’ve come around to the fact that its just OK. The grits are an instant package, the biscuits(when they have them) arent made fresh, the gravy is usually lukewarm at best. Everything is just so-so, and the bill really isn’t that ‘cheap’… Great home-town diner atmosphere, so I’ll still keep going. Previously I wrote: My favorite greasy spoon in D.C. Cash only, FYI. Really really fair pricing, can get a great full meal under $ 10 easily.

All credit goes to Unilocal for helping me find this outstanding place. One recent morning, after getting off from my job(I work midnights), I was desperately searching for a nice, sit-down type of place in which I could enjoy a cup of coffee and eat a decent breakfast. I had hoped that whatever I found would be exactly between my job and my home. So I did what any normal«Elite Unilocaler» would do and logged onto Unilocal. In this case, I used the app on my iPhone. That is how I came across Jimmy T’s Place, which is right smack dab in the middle of Capitol Hill and just east of the US Capitol Building. Even before setting foot inside, I already felt like I hit the jackpot with Jimmy T’s Place. I sure did. You cannot get a more small-town and quaint feel at any place in the city other than Jimmy T’s Place. From the light green tables with wooden chairs to the bar stools and counter, this place will instantly give you that small town and very vintage feel. Additionally, Cindy who is the owner, cook and server all in one, is easily the most pleasant and joyful person you will EVERDEALWITHINANYRESTAURANTONEARTH. In my first two times at Jimmy T’s Place, I heard her singing while she was cooking my breakfast. Her sidekick, a younger guy, is very cordial and great to deal with too. Just as I expected, my breakfast was cooked greatly and far exceeded my expectations. In the past at other places, I recall many times when I requested my eggs be cooked hard, my bacon fried to a crisp only to get the opposite. That was clearly not the case here at Jimmy T’s Place. My eggs were scrambled nice and hard. My bacon was crispy. What I really love are the home fries. They are true home fries cut straight from the potato and fried to perfection. Finally, the coffee was nice and hot. Cindy was sure to keep my coffee cup full of hot coffee. Jimmy T’s Place only accepts cash as a payment. I have no issue with that whatsoever. Yes, I am used to only carrying my ATM debit card with me and not having cash on me. However, I believe the cash only thing adds more to vintage feel of the place. I easily keep cash on me now for future visits to Jimmy T’s Place. I am very angry with myself for JUST discovering this place only a few days ago, and it has been open for 40+ years in my hometown. But as the saying goes, it is better late than never. I am glad I found this place. It can guarantee you that Jimmy T’s will be my favorite breakfast spot. Thank you Unilocal

If you’re looking for the small town diner experience of Danby, NY or Middlebury, Idaho or Bradford, Vermont, this is the greasy spoon for you. The service is slow but friendly, the place is almost entirely filled with regulars, and they keep the coffee coming. The ambiance is wonderful and as unstuffy as you can get in DC: there’s a stack of today’s WaPos by the door, people talking to their neighbors, young Hill staff on BlackBerrys & Capitol Police officers clapping each other on the back over eggs. The food isn’t superb but the experience is worth it.

Breakfast bon surtout les gaufres prix raisonnable par contre les serveurs ont l’air mal organisé du coup beaucoup d’attente. Le cadre de ce dîner est magnifique dans ce quartier de Capitol Hill.
