Worst doctor I have ever experienced in my life. I had to go back to him 8 different times as he «guessed» what was wrong with me. Every time we met he would call another doctor and get advice. I can’t believe he is even allowed to practice medicine. PLEASE do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. Went to a different doctor once and was diagnosed correctly and given meds and it was all good within 1 week. STAY AWAY!!!

I’ll keep this review simple (!), and I will also make it clear that I went to his Arlington «office.» Dr. Khawand, in my urgent time of need helped save my kidney from damage and lessened the huge amount of pain I was in from a kidney stone blocking the ureter from my kidney to my bladder. I was in the emergency room at VA Hospital Center (Arlington Hospital) and he was on call. I was taken upstairs where the doctor met with me and my wife quickly and then took me to surgery where he inserted a stent. I left the hospital that night much better and grateful for all he did for me. I still am.
The follow up visit is what prompted this review. My wife and I went to his office in Arlington for my follow-​up the next day. His office here really wasn’t his, but an office he shares time with another doctor that is not part of his practice. The first feeling of sketchiness was the $ 4, cash only parking. Luckily we had cash. The office itself did not inspire confidence as it felt old, and dirty with numerous displays from drug companies. The women working the front desk might have been more appropriately dressed for working at a corner store off Columbia Pike, than at a doctors office. The same can be said for their demeanor.
The place was busy but people filed out of the waiting room and out the door fairly quickly, after being called by the doctor himself through the receptionists window. I understand now why they weren’t there long. When I was called back my appointment lasted about 10 minutes at most. I was informed I was scheduled for surgery some 12 days hence. No other details were offered about pre-​op or post-​op procedures for this surgery. The details of what would be done were not even clear b/​c the kidney stone everyone else had spotted in the ER, and that he had mentioned to my wife before my emergency surgery, he proclaimed he no longer saw nor was convinced was there! Essentially he was going to go in, remove the stent, and poke around. And that was it. He reviewed the CT and RT scans and pretty much dismissed us. No info, no facts, no real reassurance, no seeing if we had questions or answering questions we didn’t know we had. He didn’t even offer to get a chair for my wife so she could sit down while we chatted.
We left feeling no better than we did going in. Less so. The whole thing seemed very unprofessional and less than empathetic. This is direct contrast to the urologists and staff I worked with after at Washington Urology. Professional, communicative, supportive, kind, knowledgeable, and confidence inspiring. Something like this is never going to be fun, but it can be a lot less scary and easier to deal with if you work with the right people. Its more than just the medicine, its about the people too. Dr. Khawand could take a few lessons in this department. Oh, and the surgery scheduled for the 10^th of January? I had it yesterday and already recovering…
