I stumbled in here just looking for a basic hair cut. Sheila greeted me at the door and cut my hair exactly how I like it. They mostly specialize in woman’s hair but seem to do a good job with mens hair as well. Sheila was very nice so I will be back to see her again. This DC newcomer easily found his go to barber!

I stumbled across this place because its a hop, skip, and a jump away from my apartment and its an interesting natural hair salon to say the least. First off, its always hot as hades in there. Obviously its a salon so the hair dryers are always going(contributing to the already existing heat), but they only have a very small portable air conditioning unit and a few portable fans blowing, which is not enough, especially in the summer months. Go prepared to sweat! Secondly, last time I was there, I noticed my stylist Fatima mixing beeswax and«hair grease» which she uses for loc maintenance. Anyone with locs knows beeswax is a no-no, unless of course you like gooey roots and an abundance of build-up(Eeek!) I think she also knew that was an unacceptable product to use because she turned her back when she started to make up the little concoction so I couldnt see. Also, its not the most professional of hair salons. The last time I went, my stylist didn’t acknowledge my presence until 15 mins after I arrived(because she was doing her own hair) and when she did finally acknowledge me, she told me she would be just a few more minutes and proceeded to go sit under the dryer herself(LOL! Imagine that!) If you’re a guy, you’re in the money because its a salon full of women and you’ll get lots of smiles, giggles, and great service… but otherwise, be prepared to for sub par customer service. However, i spite of the above mentioned«flaws», my end result is usually nice and I get lots of compliments, hence the 2 stars and they are fairly reasonably priced(which they should be, considering the above mentioned issues) If i left the neighborhood, I would also find a new natural hair salon. Definitely wouldn’t continue coming here if it weren’t just a block away from my home. But convenience is important, so as long as im in the neighborhood, I’ll probably continue coming here(except now I bring my own product for the stylist to use and I come prepared to battle desert temperatures.)
