Delicious Mexican food that’s fresh we love their seafood dishes and they’re probably one of the best in the City. It is a pleasure to eat here. It’s an order place but the staff is great and the décor fits the prices

Our party of four visited on a rainy Tuesday night and were seated right away in their cozy kitschy dining room. Gratis chips & salsa were immediately brought out and the staff kept the tasty basket of chips and our water glasses full all throughout our meal. Our four entrees were very nice, and so generously proportioned that we couldn’t quite finish everything, which is shocking with three hungry men at the table! Overall a really nice neighborhood find with good food, prices, and service.

A fabulous little neighborhood gem for south of the Hill. I’ve been here many times and always order the tacos al carbon with flour tortillas. Corn tortillas are available if you’re not able to eat flour. The tacos are SO good. I don’t know what they season their steak with, but it’s like manna of the gods. At no other restaurant with such a big menu would I limit myself by always choosing the same thing, but here, it’s all I want. The platter comes with not-enough pico(ask for extra), a good amount of guacamole, and rice and refried pinto beans. The salsa that comes out with the chips is on the watery side. I’ve had their chile con queso dip and it’s spicy, cheesy, and delicious. Once you’re a regular they might upgrade you to cadillac margaritas for no charge, but until that happens, it’s worth the extra $ to upgrade yourself. Be aware: La Lomita is closing from November 2015-April/May 2016! They’re tearing it down and rebuilding in the same location. Go now because otherwise it might be awhile til you can partake of the deliciousness.

I often visit this place. Its one of my fav spots to eat in my neighborhood. Love the salsa & drinks are a nice size. My personal favorites on the menu is their buttered shrimp. Sooooo gooood! As well as their steak and shrimp! Comes with rice and beans and the sauce on the dish tastes like love!

Decent place to grab mexican food. Not too expensive, but nothing special. Would return if I was in the neighborhood. Steak fajitas were good.

Average cal-mex style food. Quesadilla was cooked in a lot of butter and made for a greasy dish. Margaritas are on the smaller size but made well. Salsa does not appear to be homemade. Very mild and watery. Chips served with the salsa were fresh tasting and the best thing I had during my experience. No specials for cinco de mayo?

Pretty good, nothing negative to say… I would definitely go back… just really small… definitely not a first date spot… but good for a comfy place to eat… I had a taco salad… it was delicious…(you all can infer what you want from what I didn’t say)…but it was better than their other location…

I have been coming to this establishment for a while and I must say that my last visit was horrible We found a foreign object in our salsa and you would have thought that we put it in there ourselves. They were rude and borderline racist. Some of the comments were down right ridiculous. If you are looking for a place with horrible customer service come here.

Have been here many times over many years but a recent visit was disappointing. Food was a 2-star, ambience 1-star; only the service was good. Place was deserted on a Tuesday night. Staff appeared totally downcast. Food was very substandard and any other tex-mex on the Hill is much better. La Lomita was welcomed as one of the first«new» eateries on the Hill many years ago — it really needs a total makeover now. Maybe it should go back to being the Irish neighborhood bar it used to be…

Margaritas are the best. Can’t go wrong with the queso. Tacos? Yep, delish. Fajitas are great too. I am not a fan of the enchiladas, but they still aren’t bad!

I love a divey Mexican joint. You don’t need to come make guacamole at my table. If that is your thing, then this place is not for you. But if you like good food and a casual atmosphere, then La Lomita is a good bet. And they have Pacifico, which is a favorite beer in the summer.

I live near this restaurant and there are always people there. I thought that was a good sign. It was not. My partner and I ate there on Friday night and our food was not good. I had the chicken tamales and she had the veggie fajitas. My tamales were smothered in canned salsa that was gross– there are so many good salsas to buy out there why pick one that tastes like spoiled eggs? The rice was undercooked and the beans were so so. I could not eat them. The fajitas were mediocre and swimming in a sauce for which we could not discern the ingredients. It tasted like the veggies were smothered in soy sauce, but I am not sure about that. They were cooked, but not great. We asked for more tortillas and were charged $ 1.50. I could have run across the street to Harris Teeter and bought a bag for that kind of money. Also, this is the place that you go if you have children. We were surrounded by screaming, fidgeting kids. This was one of the worst dining experiences I have had in a long time.

This is our neighborhood spot. My husband and I can walk here from our house, and have always enjoyed our meals there. The food is not going to blow you away, but it’s always generous and tasty. I know I’m going to have a comfortable meal here with a nice glass of sangria or a margarita. So glad I live near here!

I have eaten here twice. It’s not bad. The food and service are decent, but the flavors are a little subdued. Having lived in Texas where the Mex and Tex-Mex are top notch, I may have some high expectations for east coast Mex food. Good value, but I’m still looking for the best option in the area.

Made a reservation, got there and was told they don’t do reservations. Had to wait half an hour… Definitely not impressed

As much as I love La Loma by Union Station, I think La Lomita has definitely taken the spot as my favorite Mexican restaurant in the Capitol Hill area. Though the inside and patio are both small, it’s a very cozy, intimate setting, and most of the time it’s mostly adults– not a bunch of jackass children running around unattended and annoying everyone.(Ahem, La Plaza: take notes here) The staff are nice and efficient, and the food is always hot, fresh, and delicious. It also seems like the dishes are more authentic than some of the other places I’ve tried. Favorite thing on the menu? Seafood burrito. The crabmeat inside is an awesome addition to the flavor– not just shrimp and a few scallops like other restaurants give you. Prices are very reasonable and portions are hearty– you’ll never leave here hungry!

Favorite spot on this end of town, it’s fast, fairly authentic, and the service is friendly. Sorry for the attempted alliteration. La Lomita is a great representation of an American Style Mexican spot. And, it has a great outdoor patio for the warmer months. I’ve eaten almost everything on the menu at this point, since it’s across the street from our place, so I can say that for me, the Carne Asada is my go to, It’s always cooked perfectly, and has really nice flavor. I get it more often than not. They have the obligatory chips and salsa etc, and they have a full menu of the usual suspects, so if you’re on this end of town and need a mexi-fix for lunch or dinner, this is the spot to hit. And I have to double check if some of those refill claims are true, I’ve never noticed that. Either I’m not paying attention or they haven’t charged me, I’ll have to see soon…

Love the food here! Anything steak is amazing, especially the Carne Asada! If you get the taco salad get the dressing on the side because they tend to put too much making the shell soggy. The nachos and steak appetizers are really great, and, you can add steak to the nachos! I’m slightly obsessed with how good the steak is here! I’ve heard it’s someone’s mother’s recipe. Go here. Try some stuff. You won’t be disappointed.

This is one of those places off the beaten path(DC business tourist) that really deserves to be recognized. The chicken fajitas were PERFECT. The staff incredibly friendly, and the atmosphere was everything you would want in a Mexican restaurant. Everything is served hot and fresh, My only regret is that I had to come here before a meeting and could not indulge in some margaritas Ever Fuentes my server made sure to accommodate us to the fullest.

What can I say? Solid American style Mexican. Anytime I try a new mexican place I start with the enchiladas. Theirs are as good as any. Places like Tortilla Coast in NorthWest might have fancier combinations, but they are no tastier. I go to this place probably once every 2 – 3 weeks. Never had a bad meal. The outdoor seating section is large and has a wide field of vision. Staff is great, food is solid, prices are very reasonable. The only time I ever had anything wrong with the food, we told the waiter, who immediately fixed it with a smile, and then without telling us, comped all our food,(even the people’s who didn’t have a problem) so we ended up paying only for drinks. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for good, simple mexican food. It’s not going to blow anybody’s socks off, but there’s a reason that I come back nearly twice a month — I’ve never been dissatisfied with the service or the food.
