Loved the Chili Rellenos(it was deep friend!) That was the best thing. Great chips and salsa too, they were thin, perfectly salted and came out warm. Also got the taco salad with steak which was pretty good. Kids meal came with a drink, rice/beans and ice cream and our toddler loved it! The tamale was pretty terrible, it was soggy and had an unfamiliar consistency. But overall great place!

Just moved to Georgetown from southern California and dying for some quality Mexican food(seems hard to find in DC). We ordered the fajitas and margaritas. Both excellent! My sister has lived throughout Mexico and South America and thought the carne asada was some of the best she has tasted. A big compliment! Love this neighborhood restaurant and will definitely be back!

Colleagues wanted Mexican(aka, margaritas), so we came here after a brief Unilocal search. Service was great! The chips were plentiful and delicious. The salsa was just ok, but the queso made up for it. It was gone in a flash. I ordered a quesadilla to share since I was pretty full from chips and queso. One colleague got a house salad and we shared that too — it was so good! Fresh, with delicious dressing. My other colleagues enjoyed their pitcher of margaritas but were surprised to get the bill($ 40). Very nice area of Georgetown — we enjoyed walking around the area afterwards.

My experience here was horrible. The manager and waitresses did not make my party feel welcome at all. They were very rude and racist. They even had the audacity to say that me and my friends all looked the same. If you are a person of color do not come here.

A priori, any Mexican restaurant the serves Bohemia is already off to a good start and in upmost likelihood serves decent comida. Second indicator is the salsa– they may look at your gringo indicator and serve you the soft stuff, but they should always have the real deal to follow up when asked — and not from a bottle.* And, as expected, I was not disappointed at Los Cuates. Good comida, good service, good music. I had the Chicken enchiladas with Mole sauce. Sabrosisima! * from the book«How to pick a good Mexican Restaurant, and other other such useful advice when you find yourself far from home» By Adam Rogers

Ordered delivery through Eat 24. Got the tacos al carbon and a side order of yuca. The tacos with the melted butter are very good; the steak is relatively tender and well-seasoned. The rice and refried beans are nothing to write home about. The yuca is fried and tasty but overpriced at $ 4.50 for the side. I was happy with my food and would recommend it.

I stopped in here for dinner on a Tuesday in June. I saw that you could make reservations online and after a bad experience at another DC restaurant where I failed to make reservations I decided to be on the safe side. It turns out I didn’t need a reservation. In fact, we were one of only two parties dining in the entire restaurant. Once I walked in the door and saw that I didn’t even mention we had a reservation. I figured I’d save both them and myself the embarrassment of having a reservation at a dead restaurant. Service was friendly and attentive. Our waiter wasn’t the easiest person to communicate with, but there were no problems and everything was ordered and received correctly. Complimentary chips and salsa were not good. Their salsa resembles a bowl of chopped vegetables more than it does a salsa. I’m a dipper and not a scooper when it comes to chips and all I was getting by dipping was watery tomato juice. You have to scoop and even then you just get a chip full of diced tomatoes. Really disappointing as chips and salsa is one of the things I most look forward to when dining in a Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurant. My wife ordered the Camarones Fajitas and I ordered the Cuernavaca Steak. My wife thought her fajitas were okay, but wasn’t pleased with only getting 7 shrimp. For $ 18 they can probably pile on the shrimp and take it easy on the cheap veggies. My Cuernavaca Steak was greasy and not in that yummy greasy sort of way, but in that nauseating greasy sort of way. If you’ve ever cooked a steak in a skillet(as opposed to a grill) and let it cook in it’s own fat and then serve it with that fat then you know what this steak tastes like. The garlic sauce was mostly just rendered beef fat. I know it’s common to use some of the pan drippings to make the gravy, but the drippings should be just one ingredient in the gravy and not 99% of what makes up the gravy. The steak was paper thin and not particular tasty of tender. The fried yucca and black beans were the best part of my entrée. The food here is just not good. You can argue all day about whether it’s Mexican cuisine, Tex-Mex cuisine, or simply«southwest cuisine,» but the hard fact is that it’s just not good. It’s not terrible either, but on the whole I’d have to call it below average at best. First and foremost, a restaurant should serve food that tastes good. If a restaurant only gets one thing right then taste should be that thing. If you think Los Cuates is good Mexican food then you really need to get out more. I don’t know where there is great Mexican food in DC, but it’s not here.

I went to Los Cuates for my friend’s last night in D.C. and my reaction: «just meh.» The portions were large and it represented almost perfectly average Tex-Mex food. It lacked any degree of flare or complex flavor. For the price, however, this was a respectable establishment. The ambiance fell flat, with a plethora of large groups that made conversing at a normal tone difficult. The service was laid back, but often was insufficient in regards to being timely or responsive. If you are looking for a perfectly mediocre experience, with exactly what would you would expect out of average tex-mex food, you have found your newest favorite spot!

Went during happy hour when margaritas are $ 5.00 and ordered a skinny margarita, which is made with more lime juice instead of triple sec. Costed me an extra $ 2.98! Manager tried to tell me it was more expensive because it is made with real limes. Please! So tired of restaurants ripping off customers who ask for healthier options! I am also not a fan of the salsa. It’s runny and weak tasting. The chips break easily from the chunks. El Centro is right down the block and has better salsa, an outdoor patio, a longer happy hour with drink AND food options! Go down the street unless you want more than squeezed limes– they will squeeze your money out of you!

Had a very good experience dining here at Los Cuates. Will definitely be going back. The first element deserving of mention was the service. Everyone from the waitress to the host to the busboy was very sweet, friendly and attentive. For example I accidentally dropped my fork and within 40 seconds the host had brought me all new silverware. And the waitress was very friendly & had a genuine sweetness about her that made us feel welcome. The food was very good but could have used more salt, and this from someone who adds extra salt to food maybe once a year. But this was easily remedied. Quite good selection of Mexican dishes. Particularly delicious were the mole sauce & salsa — some of the best I’ve ever had. Only real drawback is the parking, or lack thereof. But that comes with the location. Just realize you probably won’t be able to park right out front, which is to be expected in Georgetown. Overall very pleased & look forward to returning soon.

This has been the worst delivery experience I’ve encountered in long time. I took a chance and ordered here because my usual Latin spot was closed. First, it took over an hour for the food to be delivered. Second, it arrived cold. Third and by far the most frustrating is the Sopa de Mar I ordered came in a half size container(priced at 9.95 $ hugely overpriced) it looks as if someone ate half of it and then decided to deliver the remainder… The soup has exactly one shimp, one clam, and one scallop. If you have ever had seafood soup from a Latin restaurant you know what I’m describing is far below acceptable. This is the first and last of Los Cuartos for me.

I have very mixed feelings about this place. First and foremost, they need to eliminate some tables out of this joint. The restaurant is too small for the amount of tables and people they’re trying to seat. You can’t maneuver without bumping into someone’s back because they’re literally an inch behind you or in front of you. I had to walk completely around the restaurant since they placed my dining partner at a 6 top for the 2 of us, and a larger party was sitting directly behind us. I just happened to get up when they starting singing happy birthday to one of the patrons… when I walked around, I got the attitude from some old dude who grunted at me, ‘You have to ask that guy behind me to move too! It isn’t just me who should have to move.’ Whatever dude… I just have to pee. Let me by! Secondly, the bathroom is a complete joke. One bathroom was in order when I went in there yesterday evening. I stood behind 2 other women who had to go. Once it got to the second woman; she managed to stop the toilet up prompting an employee to go in there and plunge the toilet. That took about 10 minutes to resolve. I fault the woman for clogging the toilet, and I fault the employee for not using common sense when trying to unclog the thing. He kept trying to flush the toilet and let the water rise then let it go down again before he went to get the plunger. He should have done this in the first place. The toilet incident happened after the meal when we were about to head out for the evening. The story of before that is decent. I thought the food was alright. I can’t say I really have any complaints on that. I thought the margarita was quite weak and wouldn’t recommend getting one. If you’re going to charge me $ 7 for a lime margarita — put more tequila in it. Kids were running amok. I didn’t particularly care for that. The parents didn’t really seem too concerned though. At one point a kid walks up to the waiter who is about to put the food on another table that was beside us and said ‘excuse me’ for the waiter to move. The kid had to be 5 or 6. The waiter was holding the large quantity of food above his head and also above mine… if that kid would have caused that waiter to move; that food would have been on my head. That was a little nerve racking. If the tables were further apart where you could get by without issue, this wouldn’t have been a concern of mine. Fast facts: — Cramped seating — Clogged toilets — Unruly ‘free range’ children on the loose. I think I’ll pass…

This is a pretty solid pick for Mexican food in DC. It’s not fancy and I can’t speak for the authenticy either, but when you’re craving the old Mexican favorites, this hits it out of the park. You get all your standard picks and they are all done well, though far from being gourmet. The margaritas are strong and you can make reservations online(unlike some of the other comparable places in the city). Also since it’s on the upper end of Georgetown, it’s easy to find parking. Great for families and big groups.

I have always heard mixed reviews regarding Los Cuates and now I know why. I went recently and got my usual chicken enchiladas with rice and beans. Everything was flavorless compared to before and as I was eating my chicken enchilada I came across two large chicken bones. This put me off finishing the second enchilada. I was very disappointed after my most recent visit and doubt I will be returning any time soon.

My friend and I were on a search for white cheese dip(queso blanco) and we finally found a Mexican restaurant with it on the menu. It wasn’t exactly mind blowing like the cheese dip near her alma mater but definitely satisfied every white cheesy goodness craving. The menu says it’s spicy but I didn’t taste any heat at all. It wasn’t watery and congealed to the perfect texture. The chips were light and crispy just the way I like them. The salsa wasn’t my favorite. It was more like watery pico de gallo and I like my salsa blended with lots of spices and flavor. This one was lacking. The entrees are pretty standard and will satisfy every Mexican comfort food craving you have just a bit expensive for what it is. There’s a cozy feeling inside and they play traditional Mexican music. Service was pleasant and food came out quickly. Note that most of the negative reviews are for delivery. I don’t suggest this place for delivery because it’s not a that kind of establishment but more of a sit down family friendly restaurant. But I guess if you offer online ordering and delivery you should be on top of your game and apparently they’ve been having problems.

Everytime I come here I leave disappointed. Often there is a long wait and the food and service is simply not worth waiting for. Not to mention, everything seems wildly over priced for the quality that you will receive. I’m not sure why a couple of my friends really love it here and somehow manage to convince me to come back… But I really don’t find this restaurant to be anything special. I love a good margarita though and they do have a decent spicy one. The glass is rimmed with a chili pepper like powder that is a nice kick. Though you’ll need several of them to make the moment you get the check worth while.

(2.5 stars) I’ve been here a few times now and it’s always the same story. The food is pretty solid, not fantastic but better than fast food Mexican options. It’s probably somewhere around 3.5 stars. I ordered the steak quesadilla this time and it was quite enjoyable. Seemed like good quality steak and the quesadilla was grilled nicely. Although listed as an appetizer, it’s arguably enough for a full meal, especially after eating many chips with salsa. There are however quite a few things that bring this restaurant’s rating down: 1) Their burritos and chimichangas come with shredded chicken and shredded beef options but no steak, which normally wouldn’t be an issue but on the menu, theirs a warning that the shredded meat may contain bones. a) how the hell is that possible? and b) who the hell would enjoy that? 2) The service is always slow. 3) There is no room to move at all really. They cram so many tables into the restaurant so the waiters have no space to move through. So, when they are carrying plates with extremely hot fajitas, they are always close to hitting someone… It’s quite scary actually. 4) This isn’t as important but it is frustrating how fragile their chips are. The salsa is quite good but it’s so hard to grab a scoop and take your chip out unscathed.
