Mint Dental DC

As a matter of full disclosure, let me state that I originally ranked this provider 5 stars. I frequently promoted their practice and felt like I forged a great bond with Dr. Kazam and the ladies there. My main concern, in the door, was that I could not chew hot, cold or sweet food on my right side, without pain. To that, my only request was for Dr. Kazam to do whatever she had to do to «fix it.» And I deferred to Dr. Kazam’s judgement and expertise as to what «fixing it» required. So, long story short, after tons of work, a rack of redos and revisits, totally drained insurance coverage and over a $ 1000 of out of pocket costs, not only is the pain on my right side worst, but she made my left side unbearable too. (My left side didn’t even hurt, initially, but she performed a root canal on my left side and placed a misfit crown in my tooth, that caused her to drill into my good teeth and cause residual discomfort there too.) This happened early last year, so needless to say, every time I ate thereafter, in 2015, I was reminded of how much I truly despised her and the entire situation. And to make matters worst, I had to wait until now to correct all of it, because they completely exhausted my dental coverage with all the shenanigans.
Additionally, she bruised me twice with a drill and not only did she keep it from me, but when I brought it up after the numbing subsided, she blamed it on me, stating that I jumped when she blew air on my sensitive tooth. (I would say, movement is a natural reaction to pain, and she should have protected the tooth before applying the air.)
I could go on and on about the longer and longer wait times my husband and I experienced after our first few visits, but I won’t. I’m getting carpal tunnel, at this point, so I’ll end here. In the end, I trusted Dr. Kazam to help me, and I definitely did not expect her to make my condition worst. Needless to say, that trust was broken and my family and I will never return back to this business.
BTW, the 2 stars is for how accommodating they were with my infant at the time. I often had to bring him to my appointments, and they supported me in several ways, with that. I try to ve fair in my reviews, and I still very much appreciate that, at least.

The staff members at Mint Dental DC are amazing, I can’t say enough great things about everyone in the office. My dentist, Dr. Kassam, is incredibly professional and at the same time down to earth. I have had the best experiences with this office and that is saying quite a bit considering I’ve had a deep cleaning, root canal and now a crown. I strongly recommend Mint Dental for all of your needs. They are so welcoming, the office is top of the line, they work late and weekends. Extremely helpful and friendly. I definitely recommend Dr. Kassam to everyone.

I write this review as a person who really hates going to the dentist. Those awful X-​ray test. My bad gag reflexes. The nervous thought of a dentist doing something wrong and hitting a nerve. Those are the fears that go through my head when I think about going to the dentist. In the past I have hated all the dentist that I have visited. I rarely go back and I only go if I have an emergency. As a health consumer I want the best care possible and I thought I would never find a dentist that I would like or for that matter trust.
2 days ago I chipped my tooth, I was not in a lot of pain and was well aware that it was the weekend and to get treatment would be costly. I decided to wait for Monday. First thing Monday morning, I woke up and called around. Most dental offices would not take me. I then saw Mint Dental appear in my google search and decided to call. BEST DECISION I EVER MADE! The receptionist was very helpful. She said she would speak to all the doctors and see who would take me. Almost immediately she informed me that she has spoken to Dr. Bradshaw and he would be able to help. He had a busy schedule but would move things in order to help me.
WhenI arrived to the dental office I noticed that it was very clean. That is number one in my things to look. 2, It was very modern. Doctor Bradshaw was quick and was very knowledgeable. He made me aware of everything that was about to happen. He was gentle when he did the X-​ray. I was WOW, that was the easiest X-​ray ever, i didn’t gag or anything. He was very quick and showed what he was doing on a tv screen. He made a few jokes to put me at ease when he injected me with numbing injection (I didn’t feel a thing and I didn’t panic because I have a huge fear of needles). He made me feel at ease and his ability to explain things assured that I would not panic. The best thing was that he played the music I wanted to hear. This put me at ease. When he was done I was like wow, I had nothing to worry about. He also made my teeth look like nothing ever happened. Best Experience Ever! So coming back on the regular. I even scheduled a follow up to get my teeth cleaned and a few other things I need really badly.

I’m so glad this office opened up near me. To a person, everyone in the office, including my amazing dentist, Dr. Kassam, is professional, patient, and friendly. The space is modern and inviting and I had a great experience (as great as getting cavities filled can be).
I am very, very afraid of the dentist, have been all my life. I had to have some cavities filled and was petrified. Dr. Kassam and her assistant let me pick my music and really calmed me down by talking to me and giving me little tricks to focus on other things. They were so patient in dealing with me (I was kind of a baby about it) and fast with their work. I’m super grateful I found them and would not hesitate to recommend them.

I had such a good experience at Mint Dental today! I had to go in for an emergency exam after my toddler head butted me and knocked one of my teeth loose. They were able to see me immediately, and the dentist and hygienist took turns keeping an eye on my son. I really appreciate how accommodating and child friendly they were.
They are also in a convenient location, with plenty of free street parking.

Staff were nice enough and facility looked okay but I wasted half an hour because they hadn’t properly put up the correct insurance info on zocdoc which clearly stated this was an in network provider for GEHA but was actually not.

Brought the whole family here for cleanings & exams. Everything went well! We saw Dr. Kassam and she wonderful with my two children (ages 2 & 5). We all received happy reports (no cavities), yay! I had a questionable spot but Dr Kassam advised me to rinse often with act restore and it should be fine. Needless to say I’m super happy! Dr. Kassam was friendly but thorough. I particularly liked how she talked to us and not down to us. We’re life long, happy patients!

The staff was super nice, but to be perfectly honest, I felt more than a little price gouged here, and I’ve had plenty of experiences at different practices.

Two issues with this practice: Diagnosis and Billing.
Diagnosis: I went to see Dr. Bradshaw on July 7, 2014. He told me had FOURTEEN cavities. I was obviously skeptical so I went and got a second opinion with a friend of mine who is a dentist out in Woodbridge, VA. Sure enough, I only had four. Fast forward one year, I moved to Virginia and have a new dentist that I just went to this past week in McLean. She found one cavity, and no indication of the others that Dr. Bradshaw claimed I had. I just don’t he can be trusted based on my experience.
Billing: I’m under my husband’s dental insurance and I gave them that information, but they kept trying to file the claim under my name. I got SIX notices from the insurance saying that the claim was being filed under my name and thus not found. Each time I took the notification into the office and asked them to rectify the issue. Each time they assured me they did, but their system has some sort of autofill feature that just kept making the same mistake over and over again. It wasn’t until my husband went in and demanded that they print it out for his review and manually fax it that we finally got the situation resolved. Such a headache!!!

All of my life I have never had really great teeth, good but not great. Normally it was my back teeth that were the issue, but this incident was with my smile. One of my front four teeth cracked off. I was mortified. I live to smile and laugh, but now with most of a front tooth gone… I just couldn’t.
On Monday I called Mint Dental after a quick Google search for dentists within a short drive. The receptionist that answered was extremely friendly and professional. She listened to my case fully and was able to get me squeezed into the schedule for the next morning bright and early.
Upon arriving I was able to find 2 hour free parking rather easily. It’s location is directly next to a bus stop as well.
The building is well maintained and looks newly renovated. The modern styled waiting area has a nice little drink bar with the usual coffee, tea, and water options as well as a TV set playing the many options now available in modern dentistry. The receptionist was able to get me all checked in easily. She told me that because of the schedule I would have to wait. I did not mind waiting at all. I observed that everyone who had a non last minute appointment was being served very quickly. So I am sure when I schedule a regular appointment that will be the case.
The procedure rooms were quite nice. I found it relaxing to hear songs that I know and love being played. Also I really enjoyed the large tinted windows. I was able to watch the city carrying on without me until I was greeted by the Dental Assistant, also very friendly and professional.
You can tell by how everyone speaks that they all really enjoy working there and they all know what they are doing. Everyone’s bedside manor was just astonishing. They walked me through every step of what they were doing as they were doing it and they were very clear in their instructions of what they needed from me. Especially Dr. Bradshaw. All I had to was raise my hand and he stopped the procedure quickly so we were able to make any adjustments to make me more comfortable. You can tell just by how he works that he really loves what he does and he also cares about everyone in his chair.
Also the whole staff is very knowledgeable about the innovative technologies they have to offer. In my case it was really cool to watch as they used the 3D printer to create my new crowns and then installed them almost as easily as they printed them all in the same day.
I am so very happy with my new teeth. They match the rest of my teeth in color perfectly and the natural look of my smile is still intact. I really cannot get over how pretty my smile is now. It is absolutely astonishing.
Thank you Mint Dental for helping me to smile confidently for the first time.

I’ve been very happy with Mint Dental; after being burned previously by an expensive and slippery place downtown, I found them here on Unilocal,and I’m very glad I did. I’ve seen both Dr. Bradshaw and Dr. Kassam, and I’m very happy with both of them; both are knowledgable, friendly and professional. Their dental hygienists and staff are also very friendly and down-​to-​earth. Their facilities are nice and modern, their pricing is reasonable and transparent, and they’re usually able to fit me in in the late afternoon/​early evening without too much of a wait. They successfully fixed up several years worth of dental neglect for me over a series of appointments, and I look forward to seeing them again for regular checkups in the future.

I cannot thank Dr. Kassam and her staff enough. I’ve always been anxious about going to the dentist, like most people. Dr. Kassam is SO amazing. I had a deep cleaning and a filling done and I didn’t feel a thing! Very mild pressure sometimes, but nothing bad at all. I’m incredibly happy that I came here and I’ll be coming here from now on!

Friendly and professional staff. Very clean and new office. I came to them needing a crown for a cracked tooth. The team took care of me and my tooth and was very accommodating. Highly recommend.

I’m beyond happy with Mint Dental! First, the facilities are very nice. The modern look is quite nice. Feels much inviting and homey than the dental offices I visited while growing up. That coupled with late hours that accommodate my often-​late work schedule and its convenient proximity to a metro station make this place a winner in my book.
Secondly, I had work done by Dr. Aliya Kassam. Aside from having a more-​than-​welcoming and relaxed demeanor, she was very informative and precise about the work that I needed to have done. She answered every question I had about the procedures. When she did the work, she was thorough and made sure everything perfect. She really does love what she does and it shows. I’m very pleased with her work and will go back to her in a heartbeat if I should ever need further work to be done.
Thirdly, the staff at this practice is probably the most fun I’ve ever encountered. They really do have a family atmosphere there. They all made me feel very comfortable and had me joking with them as though we were siblings. With how many medical or dental offices does have this experience?
Mint Dental gets my 2 thumbs AND 2 toes up!

Had an awesome experience at Mint. First off being seen on a Saturday is huge for me, as I work in Baltimore, and coming late/​leaving early from work doesn’t work well for me.
I was seen by Oscar Cintron, who was very friendly and personable. He did an excellent job of explaining what he was doing and why. He also did a good job of giving me positive feed back and not focusing only on my dental issues.
The office is new and very clean, even with snow and salt littering the sidewalks their floors are well kept. The dental chair I was in, was facing a one way window (mirror on the outside) that had a nice view.. . of 4^th st? Well the liquor store looked nice in the sun light. They played music and asked what I would like to listen to. This led to a conversation about music, shows, and my job making speakers. I feel like this is a little gesture that goes a long way.
All in all I never felt hustled by hidden fees or useless procedures. They were very down to earth and professional. I would highly recommend Mint to anyone looking for a new dentist, as I can honestly say that this was my best experience at any dentist.

Can not say enough great things about this place. I had an emergency and they took me right away without question. Staff was very knowledgeable, helpful and warm.
Brand new office, brand new equipment, everything was updated and clean. Highly recommended!

Pretty legit dentist. Seen quickly and everyone was extremely professional. It seemed like everyone was honestly interested in me and what I needed, and was willing to do everything to make sure I was comfortable. Everything inside is also clean and new. The only odd thing was how I was asked to pay in advance for my coinsurance, but that’s definitely not anything bad enough to warrant losing a star.

I needed a new dentist after deciding that traveling from DC to Fairfax was too far. I met Dr. Kassam and heard about her program for people without dental insurance. For an annual fee that costs less than two cleanings at my former dentist’s office, you get two cleanings, x-​rays and 30% off of the cost of other treatments. The offices are new and state of the art, digital x-​rays that are shown to you on a screen in front of you as they are taken. Dr. Kassam takes the time to explain what is going on, actually taking pictures of the inside of your mouth to show you what she is seeing. She definitely cares about her patients. Front office staff are helpful and friendly. Great experience, and looking forward to seeing her for my dental needs long into the future.

I am not sure why Dave (other Unilocaler) had such a negative impression because this place is awesome. Professional. Considerate. Efficient. Compassionate. Punctual. Everything you would want in a dentist or someone using sharp objects in your mouth. The space is very nice and conducive to all ages. There is a dentist on hand that specializes in child care and one who specializes in adults. The hygienist are very knowledgeable and listen to the patients’ concerns.
I convinced my wife (who is deathly afraid of dentist) to utilize Mint. She had a pleasant experience (finally!) and will be back.
It is unfortunate that the other Unilocaler had such a poor experience. I say go and see for yourself — based on my recent experience I can not imagine anyone writing a negative review of this practice. Even if you are deathly afraid of the sharp objects in your mouth… this is your best option.

We really wanted to like this dentist. We love Eckington and we were so excited to see a dentist coming. It is one of the last things our fantastic neighborhood needs.
The problem is, my partner and i were just refused service. Warning to all new patients, the dentist will refuse to see you if you have had x-​rays done within the past 5 years. If you have insurance then you most likely have had these completed. Mint Dental will also refuse to take x-​rays from your previous doctor. Our insurance also offered other x-​rays that were available with our insurance, but MInt Dental refused.
Why would they want the full panaramic dental x-​rays? I asked my insurance company and they let me know that it is common when a dentist needs to drive up revenue. They want these x-​rays because they are the most expensive. My insurance company informed me that it is a deceptive practice and they recommend that I don’t go back, even of the dentist changes the poclicy for me. What other deceptive practices are occurring?
Even if this dentist were to offer to see me now, I wouldn’t go back. If they are willing to use tactics like this to take advantage of clients, where does it end? Its a business and it is designed to make money. There is no issue with that concept. The issue is they are using deceptive and amoral tactics to try and «cash in» on clients as much as possible. When we asked why this wasnt explained when we set our appointment (we gave all insurance info over a week ago) there was no explanation. They are banking on you not knowing any better and trusting them to help you.
I would recommend avoiding this dentist at all costs. There are other options close by. You should also be suspicious if any new reviews come in within the next couple of days (mine is the first Unilocal review) that are overtly positive, in case they are trying to nullify this review with fakes.
We wanted this work out so bad, its really too bad that these people were allowed to set up shop in beautiful Eckington.
