I paid $ 10 for a pile of tasteless lettuce. Maybe I need to go back and give it another try, but I dunno if it’s worth it – for the same price, I can get Chop’t, which is always delicious.

This is my go-to lunch place. The salads are great and the staff is ridiculously friendly. They mix the salads really well, so you get all the ingredients in one bite. My favorite is the madison(medium — regular sizes are HUGE!). I like Mixt better than Chop’t. I’m not a huge fan of the Siam though — kind of bland. Don’t forget to get the frequent diner card!

I absolutely adore Mixt Greens. Their salad options truly can’t be beat. You can choose from one of their specialty salads or build your own, selecting all the add ins, amount of dressing and of course, your favorite salad greens. They also have sandwiches, which look fantastic, but I just stick to my favorite salad, the Dagwood. This place never disappoints! Service is quick and friendly and considering the quality of the food, I think the price is reasonable. Oh, and I love that they have a loyalty card! Be sure to ask for yours at the register. I think the 10th salad you order is free. Awesome!

My office ordered in lunch from Mixt Greens and it was my first time trying a salad from them. I like the individually wrapped bread and cookies that came with each salad. However, there was nothing special about the salad. I ordered the Mixt Cobb. I thought the dressing was bland and the small serving on the side was not enough for the entire salad. The chicken and avocado were cut into huge pieces. The lettuce was also not cut up finely enough. I’m not expecting rabbit food, like Chop’t(which I detest), but I also don’t want to spend my lunch hour cutting up the chicken, avocado, and lettuce in my salad.

Ah, Mixt Greens. You turn salad making into an art form — a very delicious art form. Your salads are huge, prices are fair, you carry Steaz, your bread is delicious, you offer a frequent diner card, and your staff is friendly. I am a bit sad you do not offer artichokes. For environmental reasons, you do not offer bags, which I understand, but this does make my walk back to work a tad unwieldy. You might get a little crowded and your lines can be long, but it is OK. I love you anyways.

Best salad in the dupont area. And definitely the best«fast food» salad you can get in DC. For about $ 10 you can get a pretty enormous salad, with incredibly fresh ingredients. They also let you decide how much dressing you want, unlike some other places where they drench your salad into oblivion. Please open a location in NYC.

I like that they have a big enormous portion salads and alot of healthy choices including fruits. But i only wish their chicken was shredded into little pieces like sweetgreen. I liked they had soba noodles too !! i would definetely go again if i was in that area but i’ll probably pick something light since their salads are prettty heavy. I couldn’t finish the whole thing

Very tasty. I’ve had two salads there and enjoyed both. I had one of the seasonal soups as well, and that was also delicious. I like that they ask how much dressing I want on the salad. The restaurant itself is clean and shiny and you can usually get seating outside, which is a plus. It’s slightly overpriced. But I think all these salad joints are.

Went at 11AM and no line and I had the place to myself. HUGE salad and it would be nice to have a half salad and half sandwich combo. The flat container is preferable to the bowl for various reasons. One, you’re first layer is the same as your last, and you can rinse and reuse. Having never been to Chopt or Sweetgreen, yet, the salad I had for lunch today was delicious. It was the Cowboy… medium dressing, no chicken, and a slice of Lyon bread. BEST bread in the city and only available wholesale. However, I hear that they have a stand at the Union Station farmers market. Service with a smile, which is far and few between in DC.

(Note: The stars are for Mixt, but what follows is a comparison between Chop’t – which I reviewed previously – and Mixt). So Mixt was started by a few friends in Cali. Chop’t was started by two buddies in New York who also, apparently, liked the letter«t.» Then, sometime during the last two years, both of them decided to take on the District. And so they now they meet in downtown DC for an East Coast-West Coast salad showdown. It’s huge, kiddies. In the world of sustainable custom greens, this is Celtics-Lakers, Game 7, or Tupac-Biggie. In my opinion, Mixt edges out Chop’t…let’s break down the salad showdown, element by element, shall we? 1. Greens. Greens form the backbone of any salad. Chop’t’s greens are overpulverized and lack texture. Mix’ts greens are, on the other hand, a bit underpulverized, but hold more promise as far as freshness and quality. ADVANTAGE: MIXT 2. Toppings. Frankly, both are a little skimpy on the toppings, although both offer«pre-selected» salads that have a pleasing combination of toppings that go well together. Try Mix’ts Thai Salad, and Chop’t’s Steakhouse. ADVANTAGE: EVEN 3. Dressings. Here’s where Mix’t outshines Chop’t. You get a choice of light, heavy, or medium, while Chop’t just drowns your salad. Mix’ts dressings are also less acidic than Chop’t’s, for what it’s worth. Chop’t does appear to have more low-cal options than Mix’t does though. ADVANTAGE: MIXT 4. Bread. Again, Mix’t wins. Chop’t offers a floppy tortilla, and Mix’t offers a slice of rustic sourdough/country bread, which is slightly more substantial and provides better textures to complement a salad. Both, however, make the crucial mistake of putting the bread atop the salad, therefore allowing the dressing or any wet ingredients you may have to soak into it. ADVANTAGE: MIXT 5. Receptacle. Mixt offers a flat brick-shaped container, while Chop’t prefers the deeper bowl. Personally, I find the bowl easier to manage. It also gives the impression that one is eating out of a legitimate dish, rather than a takeout container. ADVANTAGE: CHOP’T 6. Customer Service and Experience. Both offer fairly quick, cheery service in a clean environment with efficient lines and relatively few indoor tables. Both are also loud during busy times, as making eco-friendly salads involves lots of shouting and banging of dishes. Chop’t does, however, offer a «loyalty card» and something like 10 salads gets you a freebie. However, see #7(price) below… getting to 10 may bankrupt you. Nevertheless, it’s a nice touch. ADVANTAGE: CHOP’T 7. Price. Both run around the same – expect to pay about 10 bucks for your salad alone. ADVANTAGE: BOTHOFTHEIRSHAREHOLDERS OVERALLWINNER: MIXT

This is the best salad in the area! what makes it great is that the salads are a meal in itself; most have some meat and possibly potatoes, great cheese and really fresh lettuce and veggies. They average around $ 10 each, but considering what you get it is really worth the price. MMMMMMMMM

I’m in love with the DC salad craze, but I can’t say Mix’t Greens will ever replace my love with Chop’t. The best thing about Mix’t Greens is a) their chipotle-honey drizzle(which really could be used as a dressing) b) avacado is one of their free toppings($ 1 more at Chop’t) c) they sell popchips instead of the high fat potato chips at Chop’t.(not that I get chips with a salad usually anyway, but popchips are just wonderful) So, I will go to Mix’t Greens if I’m in the mood for any of the above, otherwise I’m a loyal Chop’t salads girl. Oh and they do have frequent customer cards. Every $ 100 spent, you get $ 10 back.

I’m not sure who decided that this place needed to be noisy. All of the clanging of the bowls and shouts of «cucumber on your left» are ruining what could be a very nice place. Now the salads? Awesome. The ingredients are fresher than Cosi and not ice cold like Chop’t. So when it comes to salad this is the place for me. I especially like the Siam salad with Tofu. Now they always seem to be out of something. It’s written on a sign so you know but they need to get it together.

3.5 stars I want to really like this place — and I did, but can’t say I love it – though I am a little surprised by some of the reviews. The ingredients seem to be nicer than most of the other salad bars — and the menu sounds delicious. I have had 3 of their salads — one of them I really liked, the other was good and one was a little meh… that said, service is super friendly and efficient — and I think serving on actual tableware when you dine in is a very nice touch. Nice selection of iced teas and lemonade with free refills is another nice touch. Will return.

Yesterday I griped about paying $ 11 for a salad I could have made better at home. Today I am going to praise an $ 11(ok over $ 12 with tax) salad because the combination of ingredients and the owners’ environmental efforts pretty much made up for the cash I paid for it. I had the Madison — grilled chicken, mixt greens, pine nuts, truffle roasted potatoes, baby asparagus, shave parmesan cheese, mustard vinaigrette. Perhaps my most fun salad yet. Ingredients were plentiful(well, except for the chicken) and the flavors were really delish. So delish I couldn’t stop eating it. And the salad is big. They did forget to put my chicken in but I went right back to remedy that. I was filled up good. Still, I will say, it’s almost better to go with one of their menu salads, because making your own could add up, and up, and up, and thoroughly annoy you at the check out counter when they ring up the bill. This San Fran transplant seems to be a hit so far. It’s a very green establishment and has added appeal by having creative, healthy ingredients. I’m all for the new eco-restaurants that have been popping up all over DC recently. Continue the trend please! If I feel like a fancy salad, I’ll splurge here, but not every day.

Now that we have a handful of these types of salad places around town, there’s really no excuse for the restaurant to suck – you need to be competitive. Back in the day Cosi was the only make-your-own salad café, and while their product was not very good, they did well because there was no competition. I went to Mixt Greens on a sunny afternoon craving a nice salad. I kid you not, I think I had close to 10 or so ingredients and grilled chicken in the thing. It was obscenely expensive for not very«fancy» ingredients. While the salad was quite large, I left a little hungry, almost hungrier than when I started eating(is that possible?). I realized that the massiveness of it was masked in lettuce, not the add-ins I so graciously(overly) paid for. They are very conservative(we’re talking Cheney) with this. In the end, after eating the whole salad, I was a little bit poorer, possibly hungrier and really wanting more from this place. On the plus side, they had some fun ingredients, the staff was nice and they lay out jugs of water with cucumbers in it. However, my wallet can’t afford coming here too often because I feel like it’s not a good – or even decent – deal. At least at Chop’t, the salads are so big and filling that I have 2 meals from it.

I paid 13 dollars for this stupid salad and they forgot to put any dressing on it. It does look promising otherwise, and I am a salad fanatic, so I’ll probably be back, and if so I’ll probably provide a real review, but this so irritated me(for $ 13!) that I simply had to review it now. Watch your salad-maker like a hawk!

I was so looking forward to this… and am a bit let down. I made the walk from Gtown for lunch and decided to go with the Siam salad. It just didn’t do it for me, possibly the dressing which was on the bland side? I loved the idea of green papaya, along with the other ingredients, but as Beth stated in her review, it just didn’t deliver. Now, I did like the abundance of greens in the salad. You get much more bulk than Sweetgreen and I appreciate that. When I get down to the end of my Sweetgreen salad, I find myself picking up every little scrap of green or onion b/c I’m probably still hungry. Not so with Mixt, you have plenty. You may even need to take a quick breather. I also liked being provided with real silverware to eat on the premises. Additionally, it looked like their setup would be pretty efficient, even when crowded. The avocado was in cut chunks, I noticed. Ugh. I can’t eat avocado chunks and I’m wondering why they don’t mash it a bit. Now I’m definitely going to give them another try, but at least for now, Sweetgreen FTW.

Seriously, Chop’t is better, and I never thought you would hear me say that. I wanted to like it, but at $ 15 for salad price only, this is the most expensive box of lettuce I have ever bought. The taste just does not justify the price. ***UPDATE: I recieved an email which was much like the salad: quick and unsatisfying — Thank you you for your email, feedback is very important to us. I am sorry that you did not have a satisfying experience at our store today. It is always our goal to provide amazing food and customer service to our guests. Salad consistency is one of the most difficult parts of our business because each salad is handmade. We are constantly implementing new procedures to ensure consistent portioning and our chefs are rigorously trained and tested to produce consistent meals. I apologize if the ingredients in your salad toady were lighter than they should have been. I have contacted the onsite manager to look into this issue to make sure our portions are being correctly distributed. I figured the second day would be packed so I showed up early and was rewarded with no line. Mixt is a pretty big place with a setup similar to Chop’t, though it differentiates itself with nods to green living: greens growing out of wall that are actually used as ingredients in salads, recycled components used for the ceiling, etc. The staff was friendly and eager to be helpful. My meal was pretty tasty. The Maui salad is filled with a mélange of colors and flavors that worked well together: avocado, cherry tomatoes, papaya, cucumbers, red onions, and most importantly– Ahi tuna. I would have been okay with half the leafy greens in exchange for two more slices of tuna. Also, there is something slightly unappetizing about watching Ahi tuna being taken out of a plastic bin and placed on top of a salad. It reminded me of an upscale Subway so next time I might close my eyes. Accompanying bread was better than Sweet Green and much better than Chop’t. Overall, a solid salad though not spectacular. The cost? $ 12 is a bit pricey even for a big salad, though not enough to keep me away.
