I’ve only dined at the bar… but I like the choice of stool and group bar tables and the cushioned seat that lines the floor to ceiling windows storefront. The décor is dark and sexy open area with a private section that is more like a loft. The bar is great alone, on a date, catching up with friends or having g a group of co-workers in tow! The drinks are pretty good. A good selection. I enjoy the happy hour specials for tacos, house margaritas or pitcher of sangria on Saturdays. The Azul guacamole is a must. I also tried the beet ceviche. It was very nice! I tried the tortilla soup. lt was just okay. Too tomatoe-y. Ask the bartenders or your waiter what is the best dish! I’ve been here a number of times but still need to try more items on the menu. I also enjoy coming during the work week for lunch. There is an eleven dollar lunch deal… three tacos guacamole, and a drink. You can’t beat that in the DC area. Unless you enjoy paying 10 for a «fancy salad». I don’t.

I enjoyed my time here last night. The waiter was a sweetheart he didn’t really tell me his name(or did he?). I sat at bar and ordered a a drink, guac with the lobster and corn, and tres leches dessert. It was all good. I watched the State of the Union address here and they were so kind to cut the t. v up and music down. Great Vibes. Thanks!

The staff is friendly. The drink menu is very innovative and delicious! I loved the grapefruit margarita! The Jicama Salad is really good. The«quesadillas» are actually open face on naan type bread. The Hongo tacos were good. I was very disappointed with the corn on the cob. I get the same thing at Rosa Mexicano and there the corn is 3x bigger and is piled high with cheese and cream. At MXDC the corn tasted like it was soaked in bbq sauce and then grilled with meat, it barely had any cheese on it. Don’t order the Tres Leches cake, it wasn’t moist, it was a complete disappointment.

Went here to celebrate a friend’s bday, the place is nice and dressy. To start, we got the tuna and crab ceviche and it was good. The guacamole can be requested without tomato(hate em!) and they keep refilling the chips. For entrée, me n hubby split the carne parilla(argentinian steak) with grilled avocado n corn cob, delicioso! We ordered 3 pitchers of margarita and split it among 10 of us, at $ 16 per person its a great deal. Would recommend this place.

I came here a few weeks ago with some friends for a birthday and we loved it! They sat us at the top which gives you a great view of the restaurant. It’s intimate yet very fun. The music is great and its perfect for a fun birthday or group outing. My favorite thing on the menu was the cochinita and the mahi mahi tacos. They are soo good! The cochinitas are probably the best pork tacos I’ve ever had.

Great service. Good food. Love guacamole, even in off season. Quesadilla amazing. Liked the magi magi taco. But pollo taco had a lot of sauce

I would like to do 2.5 stars actually– but alas — 3 is allowed. The restaurant looks cool. The décor is amazing and sleek. The chips were good– but we had to wait for too long for them and then when the tiny basket of chips was gone out salsa and guac sat lonely for about 20 minutes before we were visited to request more. I ordered a cuatro queso quesadilla– it was more of a dip– not a quesadilla– delicious dip no doubt– but it would have been better with chips — except we didn’t have any. I ate a quarter of it and it was cold by the time we were revisited by our server. Just not a great experience and we were disappointed by it.

Great cocktails and appetizers! Their happy hour ends at 7pm, so plan accordingly! I’d definitely visit during happy hour, as both the food and drinks double in price afterwards. I visited with a good friend during happy hour and we both got the margaritas — Super delicious! I normally don’t like margaritas on the rocks(I prefer them blended), but the ones at MXDC were great! Once happy hour was over, I got another margarita. This time, I got the Margarita De Pina(El Jimador Blanco Tequila + Fresh Lime + House-made Roasted Pineapple Syrup + MXDC Cordial). Super yummy as well. I also got tacos(both during happy hour and non-happy hour). I got the Carne Asada(soy-ginger marinade + pico de gallo + pickled red onion + avocado), as well as the Pollo(chile marinated chicken + pickled radish salsa + avocado) tacos. During happy hour they’re $ 6, but normally they’re $ 12 for tiny tacos, so I don’t think they’re very reasonably priced. Still tasty, though! Service was good, though a bit on the slow side, especially when we were trying to close our check and head out to meet another friend for drinks. This is the second Todd English restaurant I’ve visited — the first one was Blue Zoo in the Dolphin hotel at Walt Disney World, which I visited a few months ago with my fiancé. Once again, I was not disappointed by the food or drinks. I’d certainly visit again.

MXDC isn’t lying when they say they have the best Happy Hour in town… A pitcher of margaritas, chips and salsa/guac, two orders of tacos and an order of queso fundido for under $ 50 is a steal this close to the White House. The margaritas were very strong and the tacos melted in your mouth, especially the pork shoulder and carne asada. The bacon and bleu cheese guacamole is a modern twist on a classic and doesn’t disappoint. I have only been here for Happy Hour, so I can’t speak to the full menu, but if it is anything like the Happy Hour one I’m sure it is delicious.

I came here for a friend’s birthday happy hour and we had a blast! The bartender Kevin and hostess Laura were really nice and bought us drinks and the crowd was generally very friendly! The Sangria was the second best I’ve ever had and food was delicious. The classic margaritas were good too but you really can’t go wrong with $ 6 drinks. I ordered the Kabra quesadilla and it was really good The space wasn’t too crowded and the ambiance was classy which is perfect for my taste. I’ll definitely return to pay our friends a visit!

This rating is for Happy Hour and Dinner: I really want to give MXDC a 2.5. Happy Hour: like others mentioned it can get packed. Great price for items. The margaritas was good but depending on who makes it, the taste can be different. No consistency so that was sad. Dinner: the server could not tell us how the meals were prepared on some of the best of the best. My friend got the short ribs mole that tasted more like burnt coffee. I got the paella for 2… there was no lobster, or the crunchy bits of rice that paella is known for… I did have them box half since it was just me. I think for the price the seafood could be more plentiful… as well as the flavor. I had to add salt cause it just tasted bland. Interesting that a manager stopped by every table around us to check in… but never even glanced out way. These little things may have increased my rating. Overall I’d give it a 2.5…would come back for happy hour only

Speaking only for the bar: MXDC is one of those places where you’ll either be in the mood for it or not in the mood for it — that said, when you are, it’s a great joint. The drinks here are heavily Mexico inspired — hell, a good fourth of the drink menu is margaritas — so your love for drinks of that nature is going to dictate how much you like MXDC. I had something very lime– and lemon-based, and I enjoyed it immensely. The menu here appears to be really good — lots of ceviche — so I’ll definitely be trying it in full later.

Is this for a visit 9 months ago? Yes. Should I have written it sooner? Probably. Would I go here again? Definitely. Took the wifey to their special Valentines Day meal, and MXDC delivered. The food was great, service impeccable, and the drinks were quite… drinkable. I got the complimentary sparkling wine, then switched to their specialty cocktail list. Try the mescal Manhattan. I wanted more. Had we not had tickets to a show that night, I would have had more. Only complaint was the music was a little loud for a romantic evening, may have also been because I was seated next to a speaker. I’ll be back though.

I have stopped in this place a few times for happy hour and most recently for drinks. As a happy hour spot, its perfect. They have a nice bar area with TVs and excellent prices for reduced drinks, guac, and other Mexican finger foods. Matter of fact, the guac with blue cheese is absolutely amazing!!! A must try! Nevertheless, nothing else here stands out to the point that I must rave about it. Its decent Mexican in a trend restaurant in the city.

Ordered food was good. Service was horrible. I tried ordering guacamole and the waiter walked away mid sentence. Also, I was stuck drinking water because he never took our drink order. Seriously. What kind of waiter doesn’t take drink orders? Oh, and the chips and salsa looked delicious. LOOKED is the key here, because every other table had some except us.

NO beers on tap??? Just bottles and one can? What the heck? This place is so pretty inside, but man $ 12 for a margarita?! This California girl knows that a good Margarita doesn’t need to cost that much. I’ve spent many a time on the East Coast and I think it’s safe to say that Mexican food over there just doesn’t cut it. My husband and I shared the carne asada tacos and they were ok. There were 3 tacos and they were $ 14. WOW. The carne asada wasn’t flavored like how it should be… it tasted like it was just flavored with salt. No, no. They serve you chips, which I don’t think is homemade, it taste like store bought tortilla chips. The salsa was bland with absolutely NO kick. The spiciest salsa they had would be a mild. Sadly, not memorable at all.

I admit, I’ve been a little behind in writing some reviews. Okay, all reviews. Bookmarked this place after driving by a number of times, as there is always a reason to book a place with Mexican food. Came in here after a nearby dry needling appointment– around 5 p.m., and the bar was PACKED. Was hoping to sit right at the bar, but was sat solo at a bar table surrounded by people who were much younger– and had way more money– than me. Made the decision right there to eat and leave. But not so fast! Ordered the sparkling cava which came out quick. And since this was to be lunch AND dinner, ordered a couple of tacos, the jicama salad, and the queso fundido. Everything came out, except the queso. As I was told by my waiter that I didn’t order the queso, even though it was roughly at jetplane decibels and he should have just taken the hit for not hearing me or seeing where I was pointing. The food was perfectly lovely, except that exchange killed my appetite. Took the queso to go(does not reheat well) and went on my merry way. Will I be back? Maybe. Unlikely to sit in the bar area ever again.

Checked out this place during DC Restaurant Week with a large group and had a great experience. Had the opportunity to sample several menu items and almost everything was delicious. Here is the breakdown: Apps: Snapper Ceviche(5⁄5) — fresh, delicious and quite spicy. Guacamole(3⁄5) — tasted good but nothing special compared to any other spot. Yellow Tomato Gazpacho(4⁄5) — very refreshing, solid way to start a meal. Mains: Mole de Costilla(2⁄5) — short ribs were fall off the bone tender. But the sauce lacked flavor and was relatively bland. Baked Black Sea Bass(5⁄5) — perfectly cooked and seasoned. Best thing I tried that night. Kabra Quesadilla(4⁄5) — great taste with little bit of a kick. Desserts: Flan(5⁄5) — excellent! Perfect way to end the meal. Sweet and delicious. Tres Leches(1⁄5) — this was pretty terrible. It was somehow dry and tasteless. Also the drinks here are very good. I would recommend the margaritas. The service was excellent and our waiter was very friendly and provided good recommendations. Overall good flavors and a great experience.

Great food! Strong and deliciously unique drinks. Nice décor and great customer service. Went here late night after a show at Warner Theater! We ordered the pork belly tacos and they were amazing! So good and flavorful! The free chips and salsas(two diff kinds) were great as all! We ordered the roasted chicken entrée for two that came with corn! The chicken was crisp and flavorful. The corn was beyond good!
