Despite the super classy sounding name, absolute worst place that I’ve ever been to in DC and surrounding areas and I’ve been to some very sketchy places. Stopped in here soley b/c a friend was supposed to be having a bday party there. We had been to Sutra many times over the years and usually had fun. Wow. What the heck happened. First of all they explained that there were 2 parties, one on each side. One 18 and over, the other 21 and over. Duh. 21 and over please. The bouncer outside was very nice and professional. Once we stepped inside, OMG. What a disaster. Everyone was smoking all kinds of things. Not in a corner somewhere. People were smoking right on the dancefloor, at the bar, everywhere. Music blaring from a bad sound system, lights flashing, people jumping all over. It wasn’t even 12am yet and we saw some cases of extreme intoxication. Also, there was nothing breaking up the 18+ vs. the 21+. Everyone was going back and forth. What a mess. We left w/in 2 minutes. Didn’t even look for my friend’s party. We high-tailed it out of there as fast as we could and will never, ever go back. There is no way this place will stay open much longer. It’s obviously a place that will do whatever to get bodies in the door to make money.

This place used to be called Sutra Lounge, I don’t know if there is new management or just a new name and as I never made it when it was Sutra I can’t compare it to what it use to be, I can only say what it is now and that a place I would rather not be. I came in on a Friday night and I can’t figure out the vibe, they have the look of an upscale club but have a few issues pulling it off, number one the place is in Adams Morgan and Adams Morgan isn’t for upscale establishments. Number two there is no dress code, you can’t have the look and feel of a upscale place and let people in wearing sneakers and fitteds. 14 dollars for a drink, yeah anywhere else in DC I would expect that but once again not in Adams Morgan, this is the area of no covers and cheap beers, not over priced simple drinks like vodka and Spirte. Came in and stayed close to midnight and the place was empty, I’m told it fills up as the night goes on but I didn’t have the time to wait for that, I had to make moves. Staff was friendly, I will give them that and the DJ was good too so there are some positives, just not enough to get me to be a regular.
