I am so sad to find out that Oya’s is closed! It was very classy and we always found the food and drinks good. Often, I brought out of towners to Oya’s and celebrated several birthdays there. Very sad!!!

EXCELLENT happy hour food and drink specials. Get there early cause the bar area will fill up quickly.

I came here for my birthday with 4 other friends on labor day weekend. We had reservations and were seated right away. The décor was lovely. I loved the sophisticated white interior. We ended up getting lucky because although restaurant week was over they with had their 3 course special for $ 30. I started with an ahi tuna roll which was awesome, for my main course I had a prime rib which was also very good. The last course was some sort of cake and since it was my birthday they also brought me an additional dessert. Everything was delicious and I loved the ambience of the entire place. Would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Forgive me but this review is pretty dated. I came here with a meetup group in January to take advantage of their restaurant week menu. The organizer made reservations for six was told that if a few more decided to attend, they could accommodate. I really liked the décor, very chic, clean lines, very aesthetically pleasing. They get an A for design. Their service was also top-notch – I remember taking off my coat and before I could get the other hand out, the host(I think) helped me with my coat and put it in the coat check so I wouldn’t have it on the back of the chair. Also, they escort you to the bathroom if it’s your first time dining at Oya. They do this because it’s a bit tricky to find. So for the food: again, for appetizer, I had a beet salad with pistachios which was okay; for my entrée, I had the flank steak which was okay and I had the molten chocolate cake for dessert which as you probably guessed, was okay. I had a bite of someone’s salmon and that was good but salmon is salmon – not that difficult to mess up. The food didn’t really wow me, a lot more fusion that Asian but they have a gluten-free menu which was great because a few people in the group have gluten allergies. After dinner was over and we were getting ready to leave, the host helped me with my coat – very nice gentleman. Overall, the food was so-so but the service was excellent.

The sushi is great. They have a happy hour that can be a little crowded. It is good for a date with your SO(not a first date because it looks too fancy and intimate). Honestly, I am not a fan of the décor, but I am here for the food so that’s fine.

Went for dinner on Wednesday around 8:45 pm. The restaurant was busy enough, but not packed. Service was extremely slow. We had to ask for a drink menu and then try to get someone’s attention to order. They took the drink order and walked away. We had to ask again to order our food and again where the beer was that had been ordered. Our dinner finally arrived. It was plated nicely, but the sashimi ordered was missing. The waiter had it brought quickly and apologized for the slow service. With many restaurant choices in DC I will not return to Oya. The best sushi for your money can be found in Germantown, MD at Yuraku!

I’ve been here a couple of times now. I would definitely recommend going for HH as the prices are way more affordable. The ambiance has a fire and ice feel to it with all the flames and the white walls and fireplace. Great for a night out with your girlfriends, client dinner, or date. The wait staff is very attentive. I have always gotten the sushi — pretty pricey but delicious quality fish. I have also come here for a 30 person lunch and the staff did a great job at setting up a pre-fixe menu with specific instructions and providing great options for our guests. I would definitely recommend this place for an event.

I’m not sure why this place doesn’t have a higher rating, it was amazing! My friend and I came here for sushi. We tried the appetizer of calamari & octopus. They were grilled perfectly, just a hint of crisp. It came out on a large plate with fresh ginger. We shared 3 rolls and enjoyed every bite! They also have some pretty interesting cocktails on the menu… I’d recommend you try one. I’m a sushi lover, but my boyfriend isn’t. Oya has non sushi small plates on the menu as well, so don’t let your non sushi friends deter you! I can’t wait to go back!

Food: Mini starter buns — Amazeballs! Kale Salad — good but lacked significant flavor Flat Steak Tataki — abundance of grilled green peppers but very few amount of actual steak(4 – 5 small pieces). Not worth it and also lacked flavor. Duck Confit Buns — amazing but two small pieces. Need to double it up! Other than the portion it was one our fav dish Salmon: great tasting but had bones which is a big no no. Short Ribs — Very savory and great texture and good portion size for price. Typhoon Rolls — Incredible! Rock n Roll and Spicy Scallops — average Service: Shawn, our server was very attentive and everything came out correctly! Thanks Shawn! Atmosphere: Loud and boisterous but you are still able to talk amongst one another at your table and able to have a conversation. Overall: If you have been here before then you know what to order and the value of what you are ordering. If you are a newbie, come with someone who’s familiar with the menu and you will have an amazing experience. Definitely worth the visit. Enjoy! Décor: unlike any other restaurants in DC, it reminds me of being in Miami. Very hip, modern, chic and elegant. Bonus: there was not a wait on a Saturday night(but disclaimer it was raining.)

I came for a networking happy hour in the lounge/bar area. There were several waiters coming by to take orders for our large group and they did a great job accommodating us. However, the drinks/food are extremely overpriced, portions are small, and they have a very limited alcohol menu. I ordered an old fashioned which came in a small 4 oz glass. A HUGE ice sphere took up most of the cup and I ended up with watery bourbon. There are better sushi restaurants for half the price and I don’t think I’d be back outside of happy hour.

I went last night after the Wizard’s game around 9:30PM. We were the last table sat, which we heard the host say to the server. It’s fine, but didn’t need to be said in the presence of guests. We were sat promptly and what rebounded that initial experience was the server. She was very sweet and didn’t rush us at all. Even thought we did order quickly since we knew that we were the last table. I haven’t been here in years because there were so many other sushi spots to try in DC now, but sushi is still very good. We had the ultimate sashimi platter, very fresh and delicious. 3 different rolls; hamachi jalapeño, rainbow rolls, and rock n’ roll. Décor is gorgeous with nice fire place in the middle of the dinning room. There were still a few tables finishing up when we arrived, but we left before people last people still at the bar. Overall good experience, but it could’ve been better! Until next time!

Update: the tuna tempura rolls are no longer on the menu and they aren’t available if you ask for them. Boo. Love this place — food, service and the ooh la la décor! The hostess seated us at what felt like a VIP table — it right next to the elegant fire. The weather was frigidly cold out so it was perfect! We enjoyed a few sushi rolls for lunch and the tuna tempura was the stand out. A bottle of the Gmork Austrian Gruner Veltliner was ordered with the intent of taking some home. It’s nice to know that’s an option; next time we will have to practice more restraint!

This place is ah-mazing! I really appreciate stylish chick cozy restaurants like this one! I came here with a few friends on a Saturday night, and we reserved ahead. We had no problem waiting for our table. Our waiter was so kind, while really dealing with our indecisiveness lol! Before I came, I knew right away I would be sticking to sushi rather then entrée because I heard this place is spectacular for their sushi. When I was looking at the menu, honestly nothing rang a bell because it was just nothing I was familiar too and I don’t like being adventurous with my food and trying new stuff without hearing about it. So… I stuck to calamari for an appetizer which was just phenomenal. I would defiantly visit this place just for its calamari if I had a choice. It was very tangy and flavorful. I defiantly recommend it! I custom ordered my sushi so I can get shrimp tempura because it wasn’t on the menu. It was pretty good, nothing out of the world or different from what I’ve had. My friend got a roll, not sure what it was called, dragon or something? THAT was really good. Overall, the experience was pleasant and it’s defiantly a place I would visit again! I love the atmosphere, service, and food.

Met my friend for dinner here the other night. The interior is very nice and modern. We were a bit late given that I messed up and thought we were meeting at Oyamel… lol But they were very nice about it. Like others have said it is pricey, but not ridiculous. We shared the salmon and edemame hummus which was good and plenty for us. The wine was also excellent and I like that they have glasses and also half glasses so you could get a small amount more if you wanted. I will come back here to try out some more items on the menu.

I’ve been to Oya twice for dinner. The atmosphere is very classy and upscale, and the prices on the food reflect this. My fiancé and I ordered vodka tonics to start but sent them back due to incredibly flat tonic. We had to wait probably a good 10 minutes before new drinks were brought over. We ordered a second round later in the night and even without an issue with the tonic the bar service was incredibly slow. They start you off with these tiny rolls, they are delicious! I wanted to eat all the rolls. For an appetizers we ordered lobster dip which is mostly spinach-artichoke dip with lobster bites. Maybe it was just the combination of flavors but to me the lobster tasted artificial, it also lacked basic seasoning. We ordered three sushi rolls to share: Rainbow, Tuna and typhoon. The rainbow and typhoon rolls were awesome. The tuna roll was not. The sushi did come out incredibly fast which was nice. I was shocked to see how quickly dinner service had gone. Usually we spend at least an hour and a half at a restaurant on a Saturday but Oya had us out the door in an hour flat. For the price there are definitely better places to grab sushi but if you’re looking for a fancy night out, Oya might fit the bill.

This restaurant is amazing! The decorations and ambiance is beautiful! Our waiter was so polite and despite how busy it was that day, he brought out our food quickly and kept coming back to our table to ask if we needed anything. This place is known for their sushi but I ended up getting the Atlantic salmon instead. It came with potatoes and green beans with a side of soy sauce. The salmon was cooked well and had a lot of flavor. The food also came in a good sized portion. I’m planning on coming back and trying their sushi. This place is usually packed so be sure to make reservations before hand! Parking can be a hassle but fortunately they have valet parking for $ 10!
