Hard working staff, great food, crowded, but that’s a good sign right? Oh and not stingy in the booze.

Located steps away from JR’s and it was getting late so we had to grab a small pizza! It’s a small pizzeria with seating inside and outside. Bathroom was clean too. We ordered a margarita pizza to share and it was good. Just enough cheese and tomato. Maybe a little more basil. Sauce was good too. And not smoking hot that you burn the roof of your tongue! The server had a good sense of humor and quickly tended to us when we needed her. Didn’t feel like we had to wait a long time, but it was towards the end of the night and not very crowded. I wouldn’t mind returning if I were in the neighborhood. You can’t go wrong with pizza!

Definitely will never order from here again. Pizza arrived cold and was horrible(irrespective of the fact that it was cold).

I just got into town and was starving. Stopped by for a beer and pizza around the corner from my rental studio. I’ve never had a wood fired pizza that was so thick and doughy. Not really what I want in a wood fired pizza. In my opinion the dough should be light and crispy. Enjoyed the beer and patio. The server was friendly.

Was waiting for our table at Little Serow so my group decided to get drinks nearby. We made sure to ask the waitress if she was OK with us only ordering drinks. She said it was fine– there were only 2 other tables full anyway. She came around to take drink orders and when she got to the two of us who didn’t order alcohol she got really rude. «Iced tea?!», she asked incredulously. Then for the next person, again she visibly pulled backed and tsked at the order. Clearly she was upset we weren’t going to drink more. One of the guys ordered a beer but also wanted coffee. She said the coffee machine was only on during brunch, «See it’s dinner time, we are serving dinner. Coffee is for brunch.» A simple no would have sufficed. She continued to be rude and condescending the whole time. Look, I know we’re not your ideal customers but we asked before we sat down and the restaurant wasn’t even busy. We still gave her a good tip but it was definitely some of the rudest service I’ve experienced. I work at 17th and Mass and this would be a good place for lunch or happy hour but if this is the kind of service to expect… eh plenty of other places in the area.

Pizza No. 17 is very close to my work, so I came by myself at 12:30pm for a quick bite on their patio. The food came within 10 – 15 minutes, so rather quickly, but there’s only one other patron here with me so I can’t speak to when they’re busier. Their menu offers a nice selection of toppings for their pizzas, salads and paninis such as asparagus, baby arugula and artichoke hearts. I went for the panini special, which came with a spinach/goat cheese salad for $ 8.50. The panini was made on bread that’s a bit too thick to make the sandwich thin and crispy, the way a panini should be. The ingredients themselves are more than fine– If and when I come back, I’ll definitely opt for a personalized pizza over the panini. They have a great covered patio, so I can see Pizza No. 17 being a great lunch option for small groups for spring/summer time.

Womp. Womp. I was unimpressed. The bruschetta was mostly mozzarella(I should note this was great mutz) but where were the tomatoes? Basil was fresh. Wine was cheap. Sigh. I hate cheap wine. I’m gonna die tomorrow. Service started out great but as it got busy it went to MEH. Won’t return for sure. Mostly because there are so many other, better places for apps and DRANKS in DC.

I still remember when I walked to that place for the 1st time and I asked if I could seat n the little bar. The guy was sooooo welcoming and nice! I had a tasty pizza with a glass of red wine. The pizza was similar like those you eat in a piazzola in Italia, not like Armand’s o Pizza Hut. Pizza fresca salad is great and the Marguerite indeed my favourite! I’ve been there occasionally and the waitress who is there working so hard has been way too nice also. I went with a friend one time and she immediately set up a table for us. The pizzas are the best in the area, with a nice wine list, the atmosphere is good, the place is small, so my place across the street too, so I don’t have a problem with that.

When I first tried No. 17, I agreed with the reviews: salty pizza, and slow service. Maybe they should have tweaked the recipe. Maybe they should have had a soft opening. …Maybe Unilocal should have hides reviews from anyone doing the Uma Thurman Dance in their profile picture. Whatever, I’m a tarsier. Restaurants change, though: in particular, the staff. Perhaps because of this, we enjoyed a good lunch experience the other day. They have a lot of topping choices — even for vegetarians — and the pizzas had plenty of toppings and cheese, balancing the saltiness of the dough and sauce. Though minor, the tweak made it much better. Meanwhile, Domino’s has spent several million dollars because the FDA forbids them from calling their product«pizza» at all. The restaurant interior is still small and it can get busy. But the waitstaff is pleasant. Our server, Jennifer, even made sure to adjust the wobble out of the table when we sat. So if you just want a simple meal and to laugh with some friends, No. 17 will serve you better now. Also, the part-time prostitute there last time had been replaced by an informative chalkboard. Changes. Pros: Good pizza with good quantity of toppings. Reasonable portions(unlike male measuring tendencies, 8″ is more like 10″) Friendly waitstaff Cons: Pizza sauce and dough still on the salty side. Restaurant interior is small(there is plenty during warm weather) Prices are too high for casual dining. It’s pizza, dude.

Great wood-fired pizza. My boyfriend and I needed a quick meal before seeing a play and decided to try Pizza No. 17. The salads were large and used quality ingredients. The pizza was delicious. The server was very attentive and insisted on correcting our order when the wrong salads were accidentally served to us. Overall, a very nice experience.

My wife and I live half a block away from Pizza No. 17. We’ve wanted to try it for over a year, but have always been deterred by the lukewarm reviews and the attractive options(Agora and Duke’s) on either side. Tonight we decided to give it a chance. With some luck it would be a positive experience and we could become neighborhood regulars. Mistake. I walked in and was greeted. I asked to order something to go and was directed to the bartender. So far so good. I asked the bartender if it was possible to order a half-and-half pizza. There isn’t a rule against it on the menu, and I said I would be happy to pay more. If half-and-half pizzas are against the rules at Pizza No. 17, no problem. I was just asking. The bartender gave me serious attitude. It is apparently much more complicated to do a half-and-half pizza at Pizza No. 17. And clearly I should have had better manners.(How disgusting of me to walk in and ask for half pepperoni and half cheese! Only a fool would disrupt the fine-tuned order of the Pizza No. 17 universe!) But he supposed he would be willing to make one for me anyway. No thanks. I don’t want anyone spitting on my pizza, honey. I placed the menu on the bar, thanked him, and left. We’re ordering from Pete’s Apizza instead.

Came for brunch and had a very mixed experience. On the bright side, the food was very good and moderately priced. We ordered the steak and eggs, chorizo platter(which was more of a chorizo hash, which was delicious), and the French toast. We were very pleased by the taste and value. Unfortunately we ran into other problems. The service was VERY slow to the point of having to complain to the manager. The bottomless Bloody Marys had little to no alcohol in them. I was able to finish four before our food arrived and felt nothing. Not to mention they were made with only tomato juice and lime. They don’t carry any horseradish, cocktail sauce, or Worcestershire to improve it on your own. The mimosas are also pulpy but the champagne was legitimate. They ran out of orange juice halfway through our meal which was unfortunate. Overall, a disappointing experience. If you are in the mood for a very, very slow and lazy brunch, then this might be the place for you. Otherwise, there are better options around.

Came here for a food tour with some friends. I love that they make their pizzas fresh in the wood fire oven. The pizza came out quickly and was very tasty. They do have a brunch, I believe, but no one was there when we arrived. This place is obviously more of a lunch or dinner place. Plenty of outdoor seating.

I always have a great pizza from here! Wood-fired, with spicy pepperoni and Italian sausage(those are my favorite meats here). The crust is thin, sometimes with crispy bubbles in it. Love it! Peter isn’t fond of the pizza, but he likes the Spicy Italian Sausage Panini with a house salad. You can order your usual pepperoni pizza, but it won’t taste like Domino’s or Papa John’s! Try their specialty pizzas; I do and enjoy them! They have salads and other sandwiches, too!

Pizza, for me, is a treat. It’s something I have once every few months. I like my pizza to be gluten free, with vegan cheese, and something other than tomato sauce. I like my crust slightly over cooked(which is a hard feat to accomplish because gluten free doesn’t easily burn). It’s a small thing on my list of big thing. I decided to my «pizza cheat». Normally I would head over to District of Pi but I no longer live a few blocks away. So I did the usual search –” gluten free vegan pizza” — and pizza 17 happened to be one of the closes place to me. Made two orders, one for myself and one for the BF. The pizzas were fairly priced(additional fee for gluten crust and vegan cheese). The crust wasn’t made the way I liked but they delivered with everything else. Their spicy olive oil sauce was AMAZING! I’m waiting for the day pizza spots start using cauliflower crust but till then gluten free it will have to be.

Saturday afternoon so not very busy. Hot outside(so someone with me said) so sat inside. Very good pizza. Crisp crust. Nice sauce. Good choices of pizza. They also do brunch. Overall, a very good experience. I can see how it could get crowded in the evenings. But this was a fun lunchtime out. No complaints on pizza or service.

I read the reviews and maybe I had my hopes to high. For me the pizza was pedestrian at best. It really lacked flavor. I was quite surprised. We also had the capresa salad, it was good. Nothing to rally write home about. As far as the service, felt as though she was genuinely trying not to be rude. Definitely came off as too cool for school, and that we were lucky to be there. I probably would’t eat here again.

It was a cold cold cold drizzly wet night and we needed a place to go eat… pizza sounded good and my husband suggested Pizza No.17 next to JRs. I dont hang out on 17th Street much often anymore but decided I’m hungry and craving pizza so let’s do it! It was only 6pm on a Sat night and was pretty empty so we had out choice of tables. Waitress was super nice and we decided to get the 2 individual pizzas and a botle of wine special. We decided to start with the bruschetta as well. Bruschetta was good and the mozarella cheese and tomatoes were fresh tasting. I got their classic No.17 pizza since I’ve never had squash on my pizza and it was delectable as well. We made a complete meal out of it and got their chocolate chip cookies which they initially said they ran out of and got oatmeal cookies as an alternative, but wa la they got some chocolate chip cookies oven backed for us without any extra charges. They can get coffee for you as well from the java coffee place that they either own or partner with. Overall, it was a fantastic way to end the day and begin the night. oh BTW my husband got the bread and butter pizza and THAT was yummy so I know what to get on a future visit. Lastly, I love the cartoon art on the wall depicting 17th Street with a few of the DC landmarks and a tribute to the high heel races on the street!
