I feel kind of strange writing a review of Planned Parenthood, but I had a hard time finding information before my appointment, so I’m going to give it a shot. I went in for a check-up. Even mid-morning traffic on the way from Virginia was a pain, but there was ample parking. You don’t want to get dropped off on the street side if you go – the entrance to the clinic faces into the shopping center. The receptionist was nice – smiled at me and took the entrance paperwork I’d downloaded from the website. I had to fill out more forms of course, with normal questions about my lifestyle, my number of sexual partners, and whether I was taking any medications. I turned that in and had to wait about 15 minutes past my appointment time to get called back. The intake nurse was great – very funny. I told her that I hated going to the obgyn because they touch my lady parts without even a date. She laughed, even though it was a lame comment and she’s likely heard some variation of it 18,000 times. I went in and the doctor came back soon to look over me. A quick breast exam was first; it was as unawkward as a breast exam can be. Then came the other basic examination parts – she was efficient and gentle. The whole thing was over very quickly. I wanted to change my birth control, so she took some time to discuss my options with me and then they gave me a free two month supply of birth control pills to try. Everyone seemed very patient and willing to go over things with me.(I always have 1,000 annoying questions about medications, especially different forms of birth control.) I really like Planned Parenthood. They’ve seen a lot of weird stuff and so I never feel out of the ordinary if I have a bizarre question. They also sent my test results to me about ten days later, which seemed very quick. I’m not sure what they do if you actually have a problem, because my tests came back normal. They may call; they may not. If you’re worried about a possible STI, you should probably ask them about that before you get your testing done.
