I will miss this friday afternoon bargain for delicious half price sweets! Owner here was a class act. Hope they can ReOpen somewhere in DC.

Good sandwiches and salads, a little pricey — and doesn’t reach the heights of the Greek Deli — but it is good.

It’s rare to find customer service as good as you’ll get here. All of the staff, not just the owner, are nice and friendly. Most places just grunt«thanks» when you leave; to be told«thank you for coming in, we appreciate your business» is special in this day and age. That’s what brings me back.

This place is one of my favorite Breakfast/Lunch counters in the city. In the morning the coffee is pretty tasty and for lunch all of the Greek dishes are good — but I frequently get the«Norwegian» which is a tasty smoked salmon sandwich. They also have all kinds of random Greek grocery products for sale like honey and stuff.

one of my favorite places to go for lunch, even though they are picky about using AMEX.

This place is located on 13th between K and I street. It is NOT closed. Rarely have all three specials advertised on their website. Specials have really gone downhill.

I love this place for lunch during the week. It was right near my work and they have fantastic falafel sandwiches. In fact, I think it’s probably the best falafel I’ve ever had because it is spicy and the pita is really good too. Plus I always like the people working there too.

I’ve worked one block from this place for a year now, and FINALLY decided to try it today. I got the spanikopita platter, which comes with a large greek salad with very fresh veggies and feta and a HUGE triangular shaped piece of spanikopita. All in all, a delicious meal. The only thing that would deter me from returning would be the overpriceyness – the spanikopita platter and a bottle of water ran me $ 12. I think I’ll stick to packing my lunch…

Port of Piraeus(Athens Grill) appears to be closed. I spent about 30 minutes on Friday trying to find this place. The first time I didn’t bring the address and couldn’t remember the exact name, so ended up hunted up and down 12th Street trying to find something with a Greek sounding name. I later went back with the address and name firmly in hand and still couldn’t find it. There was an Au Bön Pain where I would have figured Port of Piraeus to be based on the address, but that couldn’t be it… Finally, I saw a little sign on a door between the ABP and Metro Center noting that Athens Grill did not renew the lease and the place was empty. Some of the reviews are pretty recent so I have a hard time believing it is gone, but that’s what was on the sign. Man, I am so disappointed. This place sounded awesome. I guess I’ll have to check out the other location now.

Port of Piraeus is just this magic, cheap, little gem hiding in big bad D.C. The food is amazing. Salads, sandwiches, drinks, desserts, and all so reasonably priced. The best thing about this place is the owner, who is just probably the sweetest man ever. He talks to his customers, and is so friendly. I once saw him give an old man in line in front of me free food, because he forgot his wallet. I believe the owner said something along the lines of, «Who are we if we can’t help someone out? Don’t worry about it, and feel free to eat what you like.» This is what we need in D.C. A White House that is more like the Port of Piraeus.

Unlike most people, I don’t come here for the Americanized Greek salad, or the standard decent deli sandwiches. Don’t get me wrong, these are all perfectly fine. They are just standard DC lunch fare. If you want fabulous DC lunch fare, go for one of the daily specials. It seems scary at first because you’ll see a big pan of moussaka or pastisio just chilling in the heating rack. But this is where the owner pours his love in. If he’s manning the cash register, he’ll tell that to you himself. In fact, I come here just for those two dishes. Sure, its runs over $ 10. You get a side Greek salad(and yes, get the dressing on the side) and bread with it. You get a big pile of moussaka or pastisio which really, is almost enough for two meals(for me anyway, prolly for the average person its one huge meal). But its perfectly prepared. Come early, say just before noon to get one of those first pieces and to appease your brain that it hasn’t been sitting out that long. These dishes both have the rare perfect balance of seasoning and if you close your eyes, you can almost imagine as you scoop up bits of savory ground beef infused with tangy tomato, topped with a fluffy bechemel sauce, and undertones of cinnamon and that spice I can never quite identify, that you are in Greece, if just for a second. This is that perfect dish for a crisp day when you want warm comfort food. The service here is quick but don’t try to pay before you get your food. They will throw in a napkin and silverware for you so you don’t even have to remember that.

The Port of Piraeus is a nice break from all the sandwich shops in the area. There really is nothing but sandwiches around there and it makes lunch time really drab and depressing. The PoP has great falaffels and chicken and for such a small place it really is very clean. The prices are moderate and the food is good, so I don’t see why you wouldn’t come here.

This place is decent for lunch. It’s standard Americanized Greek fare, similar to Zorba’s Café. They also have deli sandwiches and other stuff like soup, but I always order a Greek salad. The ingredients are fresh and the food comes out fast. The only thing is, make sure to ask for the dressing on the side if you get a salad. They really drench the lettuce with a combo that’s more like straight oil, not a vinaigrette.

When I told a coworker that I had ventured in to Port of Piraeus and had an awesome bagel, he looked at me quizzically and said«that weird place with the little man statue out front?» Yes, the place with the little man statue out front. They import H&H bagels from NYC and while I’ve never had an H&H bagel in NYC, I can tell you that this was pretty awesome. The place was not crowded at breakfast and they have a pretty extensive menu: bacon, eggs, sandwiches, etc. The staff was all very pleasant and I decided that I needed to come back for lunch sometime, as their menu looked great. I did return today for lunch and while it was a bit more crowded it wasn’t anything in comparison to the other lunch spots in the area at 12:30. The design is a bit confusing and there were a good number of people milling around, apparently confused at where to go next. I decided on the greek style chicken sandwich and it was good: a warm pita with an impressive amount of chicken, tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and tzatziki. The tzatziki sauce was really really good. Yum! The thing that really sells this place(for me at least) and has ensured my prompt return is that they sell single beers from their fridge. Now that’s what I call a good lunch spot.

Great place for lunch, I «found» this place one day wandering around trying to find a place to eat(sometimes I just don’ t know what I want). I would have to admit that this review is based off of one sandwich and the way the other sandwiches and plates look and smell. My «usual» is the Cretikos, Imported Salami, roasted red peppers and mozarella, all in a bagette. Yum. I’ve been there with collegues and I’ve seen an assortment of other sandwiches and hot entrée specials and they have all said that they were very good, So based on my sandwich and what my collegues have said…4 stars!

Wow! What a happy find. With luck like this, we should go to Vegas. This is one of the cleanest and most efficient restaurants ever! It’s a bit chaotic at lunch time, but everyone is nice and friendly and FAST! My Greek salad with tuna was delicious and the BF’s gyro was great! A tad priced, but great quality and service. I’d eat here all the time if my office was close by. A bummer that it’s closed on the weekends when we tried to stop in for breakfast.

Went to this restaurant today for lunch. Great choice. I had the greek style chicken pita and it was darling. I also had the cheese brownie to top the meal off. I will be back. My co-worker had something from the hot bar and I saw the making of delectable greek salads.

Delicious! I had a giant sandwich here, and it was great. The salads looks wonderful too, and I think I might go back today for dessert. They had a beautiful selection of cakes as well as traditional greek desserts.

Pricey but good, with a surprisingly wide variety of options for breakfast and lunch. The breakfast menu is complicated — just tell the dude what you want when you get to the counter and they’ll figure out what it’s called. And they can make most anything! It’s my favorite breakfast joint by my office. For lunch, there are hot and cold sandwiches, hot entrees, and a wide variety of salads. I especially like the carved to order stuff. And in a Christmas rush… they have a number of desserts(whole cakes and pies) ready to go, along with a variety of wines. A rather convenient place to be next to!

If the dad from ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’ opened up a deli, Port of Piraeus Market would be the result. I’d walked past this lunch spot several times, not knowing what wonders awaited me inside. From the street, this place looks like a typical, unassumingly small place where you can grab sandwiches and stuff like that. But once you step inside, you’re transported to a sea of blue, complete with Greek music playing in the background as all the boisterous men ask you what you’re craving. This place is much bigger than it looks, and you feel like you’re being greeted by a huge family, of which you’ve been a part for many years. The food is delicious, and it goes beyond salad and sandwiches. The restaurant feels really clean — maybe they use Windex as much as the MBFGW dad did. Find out what the special of the day is, and if you have room, don’t miss the yummy Greek yogurt with honey! If you’re in a rush, look to the right where you’ll find already-prepared goodness to go. But it’s also a great visit if you want to stay. I’ll be going back again really soon. Maybe they’ll get an «OPPAH!» out of me.
