Press Liquors

Decent at best. I’m in my mid 20s and live downtown and don’t have the money to spend $ 25+
on a bottle every time. There are dozens of places that have GREAT wines for under $ 15.00. I know wine relatively well and there is nothing here drinkable that is under $ 18.00. I think a bottle of Barefoot is $ 12.00 which is ridiculous but that brand and the others that are less expensive are truly undrinkable. 3 stars for perfect location, good hours, and just all around convenience.

Way over priced. Stopped by today and guy behind the counter only said that’s all they had before I could get my question out. They don’t have to worry about getting my business. Looks like they are more interested in selling lottery tickets then selling alcohol. I’d give em 0 stars if I could, they are that bad.

Great place for nearby travelers. Purchased import beer (cold) and Washington St Pinot Grigio, plus had large cold bottles of water. Went back twice for water. Adjacent to JW Marriott, across from Willard & Washington.
It’s hole in the wall, but if you want fair priced goods…

Their selection of liquors is smaller and more expensive than at nearby Washington Wine & Liquor at 1200 E Street NW. There’s no reason to shop here.

Small store, but very convenient to the W Washington (about a block away). They have a great selection of beer, wine, and liquor for their size and their prices are good.

Press Liquors is teeny teeny tiny, but is still one of my favorite liquor stores in DC. Poked into the side of the National Press building, it’s conveniently located and stocked with the essentials.
For it to be such a small store, they actually have a great selection of top-​shelf liquors and a decent wine selection. I popped in the other day for meeting-le-boyfriend’s-parents-so-must-pick-a-really-nice-semi-expensive-wine-to-try-to-impress-them-just-a-little-bit wine. They don’t have the finest selection (for that, I’d go to Modern Liquors), but it was certainly adequate. And the salespeople are nice.
I would normally go to Press Liquors after a hard day at my sidehustle. Nothing makes a long day brighter like pizza and rum.

Press Liquors may or may not be a good liquor store in general. It’s probably a little bit overpriced. The owner might be a poodle molester for all I know.
And I really don’t care, because (drum roll please…) they have Fernet-​Branca! For my personal taste, that makes Press Liquors about as special as Zion, the Lost Cities of Gold, Shangri-​La, and the Holy Grail, all rolled into one.
Do you have any idea how hard it is to find Fernet outside of San Francisco, New York, Argentina, and Europe? I’ve literally inquired at every liquor store and bar I’ve passed in the last 13 months. My last Fernet fix was in October in a town in Venezuela, accessible only by airplane or a five-​day trek through the jungle. (We chose the jungle trek. It was cheaper, but resulted in dengue fever. Long story.) Frankly, I don’t understand why the only bar in that random little town had Fernet, but it made me a very happy puppy.
But sadly, my first four months of DC was a misery of Fernet withdrawal. Until we found Press Liquors. Now everything is right with the world.
