Q West Nails

Service was pleasant. They could accommodate me right away for a pedicure though two girls who came after me and had reservations had to wait for 30 minutes (so they don’t honor reservations).
My main issue was the hygiene of the place, they don’t clean up clipped nails, which covered the floor. It was gross, I won’t be back.

I’ve been here so many times in the past 6 months but today I decided I’m so tired of the place I’m never going back! The upsell drives me crazy! Every single time I walk in and say I want a manicure they immediately ask if I want a pedicure. No, that’s not what I said is it? I recently got a red gel manicure, then went back a couple days later to get a red pedicure and as I’m sitting in the chair she asks if I want my nails done. I thought to myself, do you not notice my nails are perfectly done and matching the color you’re putting on my toes???
On my last visit I decided I wanted a break from gel nails so I picked out a regular color and when we sat down she informs me there’s an extra charge to remove my polish, funny there’s no extra charge to remove polish when I’m getting gel.
Then she won’t stop trying to persuade me to get gel instead, she kept talking on and on. I stopped saying no because I was so tired of this and then she picks up on my silence and says «so what did you decide». I already told you, the color I brought you is the color I want. Then when all my nails are wrapped in foil she asks if I want to get waxed while I wait. OMG First of all my eyebrows are on point because I just had them done and who was going to unbutton my pants while my fingers were tied up??? I decided right then and there that this woman ANNOYED me so much, and this happens every time I go there, that they’ve lost my business.
Not to mention that every time they always cut my nails too short. They argue that the nails won’t be even, I don’t care! Then they always rush you out. I’ve lost my patience with their lack of customer service. Reading the other reviews here it seems that other people have the same sentiment as well.

I go to this place mainly because there’s never a wait and it’s close to my home. However, I won’t be back. I pay good money for my services and I tip pretty well, but I have never been offered any perks. It’s funny that other women – even those that visit the shop for the first time can be offered snacks and a variety of drinks, but I just get asked to pick a color and pay. Even when I brought this to my technician’s attention, she said nothing. Bye Q west. There’s a shop on every corner.

The last time I went here will be my last time ever. I called ahead and was told there was no wait. I arrived 5 minutes later and waited 15 minutes to get seated. Then I was sitting with acetone foils on my nails to get the old gel taken off for at least 30 minutes. The employee tried half-​heartedly to take off the gel, claimed it was «too hard» and literally POURED acetone into the foils on my fingers. At this point my fingers were in pools of acetone and I had it all over my hands from small movements and I lost my patience. I asked to leave and another employee warned me, «if you leave, you’ll get the same service that you got here anywhere in DC».
I left and within TWO minutes another salon had taken the gel off my nails and started my manicure.
I live in the neighborhood so I just went there for the convenience.
If you’re looking for an average nail salon with less than average customer service this is the place for you.
If you, like me, appreciate nail salon employees that make basics conversation and get to know you (after all, you see each other twice a month) then this isn’t he place for you.

I live in the neighborhood, so getting my nails done here was very convenient, and it was alright. But, after they infected my nails and after I’ve seen the back of the «salon» where they do the eyebrows and waxing, I honestly was disgusted. It’s dirty, it’s unsanitary, the freaking soap in a bottle of dawn, stuff is always rushing to finish their work and they are very rude to customers, talking crap about customers in their language without even thinking that someone around could understand it.
Ohhh and I forgot to mention that now they’ve got the eyelash extension service, and it’s terrible. If you are thinking to give it a try, DO NOT! The products they use are super cheap, and you might end up with an eye infection like one of my friends that got them done here.

The last couple times I’ve been there they cut my nails really short and I feel like I look like a little kid. Make sure to watch that they don’t give you the nails of a 5 year old. I hate when my nails are so short that I can feel the nail beds. Also, I wanted square and they are tiny and round.
However, they have great gel color selection. I will say that.

Pedicure wasn’t bad, but nothing to write home about. Eyebrow wax was a waste of money. Customer service was lacking… Others were offered water but I had to ask. Worst part is the place was overrun by mosquitoes. I complained several times but nobody closed the windows. I had probably 6 bites by the time I walked out…

Q West has great manicurists and great service! I came back in after my gel manicure was chipping too much after only a few days and they profusely apologized and insisted on redoing it for free. They did a great job and it lasted forever.
Definitely go here – they care about doing a good job!

I waited 20 minutes for my manicure. They gave me a color change when I asked for a manicure and literally didnt even let my nails dry before they shoved my backpack in my hands and put me out the door. They were busy and trying to get to the next person. I wish I was exaggerating but I’m not. My nails of course smudged off because they had 0 time to dry. There are people who really like this place but after that incredibly awful customer service I can’t go back.

I used to really like this place and the work they did with manicures and pedicures.
Here’s why: In the beginning they never asked anything specific in terms of payment, but a few months ago, they asked for their tip in cash which I rarely carry on me– that made me feel uncomfortable and almost like a sense of entitlement on their end. Then in the last several weeks they’ve asked if I’ve had cash for the entire sale plus tip! That’s so unprofessional and rude! I get you don’t want to be taxed on this but this is the price you pay when owning a business. You don’t see waiters asking for their tips in cash do you? Let alone the whole meal in cash!
Then today was the last straw… the woman (she’s new), was so rough on my pedicure and took a bridle brush that should be used strictly on toes, on the tops of my feet-​OUCH! Then for calluses– (please tell me they replaced the soap in the dawn bottle) she took the stone to pets of my feet (the middle) where there are absolutely no calluses… they are on the soles and heels of your feet… another ouch! So when I went to pay, again I was asked if I had cash for everything and I said no credit… then she proceeded to ask «how much for the tip?»…WHOA. You just assumed you were getting one? I actually wasn’t even going to tip because of how ridiculous that pedicure was but I submitted and gave her a tip… you better hope this polish stays on for longer than 5 days.

The place is just okay. Very convenient to my home and gym so I will continue to be a customer. The staff is also really kind and helpful which is the real reason I am even giving them three stars.
For starters the place is super cramped and not exactly dirty… but not super clean. They have a spacious downstairs space that they NEVER USE! I don’t get the point of cramming everyone upstairs when you have manicure tables, and dryers downstairs but that is just me. We are all tripping over each other’s shoes and purses and it is not necessary.
First of all the pedicure is expensive for what you get. My feet don’t feel that soft or pampered afterwards and the polish job is pretty mediocre.
I will say their gel manicures last a longgggggggg time. Might be worth it just for that. I have gotten gel polishes here many times over the past year and I can go about two weeks without a single chip. Blows every other place out of the water in terms of a long lasting gel manicure.

Flip flop season is here so time for pedicures too. Being newish to the neighborhood I decided to try Q West since they’re around the corner. It’s a small place, nothing special in looks or decoration. They had the TV turned up which was disappointing, a salon shouldn’t have a television on. They had gallon jugs of milk sitting on the floor, uneaten donuts with flies on them right by the register. The pedicure was OK, they charge an extra $ 10 for the «spa» treatment where they put a clay looking paste on your legs and wrap them in hot towels — this has always been part of the pedicure treatment everywhere else I’ve ever gone. The gentleman that did my pedicure, did so without wearing gloves. I saw him scratch his face while in the middle of handling my feet. So, the service was OK — the rest of the place is dirty, unsanitary and gross. I won’t be going back.

I hate writing a bad review because any other time here has been fine, but if you are assigned to a young man whose coworkers have to yell down the hall for him for 5 minutes and who talks on his phone the whole time, please ask for someone else. I have gone here a few times and always had a good experience and good manicure/​pedicure. However, I went this past Friday for a manicure and am disappointed and in pain. A young man, I did not get his name, did my manicure. He made 6 of my nailbeds bleed by over-​cutting the cuticles and rougly buffering not just my nails but the cuticles as well. He didn’t notice the blood until I said something to him and then wiped his bare finger right over one of the bleeding cuticles. Ew. He did not offer to clean it up using gauze… just let them bleed. I am now left with scabbing and irritated nail beds.

Just left here and I am very pleased. My gel polish looks great. The people were nice and efficient. The pedicures look amazing. I didn’t get one but everyone else seemed to be enjoying theirs immensely. The place is somewhat small but they accommodate customers well.

So… This place is more expensive than Color Nails. I gave it a shot, and got a basic manicure for $ 15 (20 with tip). The woman who did my nails was nice enough, but ONE DAY LATER, I already have chipping and she didn’t do a great job with the painting itself – splotchy and uneven polish coverage and jagged edges near the cuticle beds. I’m going to see if they will at least fix the chipped nail, will update. Photo attached.

This is definitely a good, solid choice to get nails done downtown. Their prices are comparable to other salons around, and it is very clean. They have a good selection of colors, and also offer a beverage (coffee, tea, soda pop, wine) upon arrival. They (like most salons) are inclined to tell you they have time to do your nails «right away» even if it will be a bit of a wait… kind of annoying when you have errands you could run and then come back but oh well.
Be warned: they don’t use the cheese grater/​callus shaver on the bottom of feet as many other salons do unless you bring your own with you.

I was super excited when I found out that Q-​west nails is opening up across the street from me as I am a girl who likes to keep it classy and clean.
I get my nails done about every 2 weeks so I have been to many nail places in DC and VA. If I had to compare this place to some of the other places in China Town, I would say that it’s so much cleaner and the staff is much friendlier. However I have also been to some very nice upscale nail places in VA with much bigger space and nicer ambiance. But for me this is my go to nail place as you can’t beat the location if you’re a Mt. Vernon resident.
When they first opened they also had a 20% off deal on all their services and I definitely took advantage of that. So I was thankful for that.
Some of the things I like about this place besides it’s convenient location is:
1. their many choices of gel colors and brands of nail polish they carry for both regualr and gel polish. Weather you like OPI or Essie they have many colors from each brand to choose from.
2. I also find the staff to be very friendly and helpful and they offer you a drink or snack while you’re getting pampered.
3.Even tough this place is small they have a good number of staff working so if you happen to go during their busiest times (after 5 pm) they will still accomadate you.
Most of the time however I don’t have to wait at all.
As I have mentioned before, I know this is not the nicest most upscale nail place so I can not give it a 5 star. But I enjoy going here and will always be a regualr customer as long as I continue to live here.

Great customer service! I had one person in front of me and they offered something to drink, said thanks for waiting, asked how I liked my nails after. Small salon but nice. I would recommend

I’m happy something replaced Buddha Tree because I live around the corner and I like convenience. I stopped in here a few days ago for a pedicure to try it out, with high hopes. It was okay. I wasn’t blown away, but they didn’t cut a toe off either, so there’s that. My technician was friendly.
Aside from the service, I will say I was super annoyed by one of the employees that decided to chat on her cell phone for 20+ minutes at the front desk. She was loud. Like really loud. There was one other customer in there getting a manicure and I heard her say to her technician, «I’m sorry, I couldn’t hear you, what?» That shouldn’t happen with only two customers in the whole place. Get off the phone or go outside. Stuff like that really sticks with me, so I’m not sure if I’ll be back or not.

I went here this afternoon around lunch time for a gel manicure. I was surprised to be the only customer during what I imagine to be a busy time of day.
It used to be Buddha Tree and the new owners recently took this location over a month or two ago. The nail technician and another gentleman that were working were exceptionally friendly. The technician did an excellent job and the price was right. Normally $ 30 but they are currently running a 20% off promo so I got out for just under $ 30 including tip. I used to go to the salon in China Town but they always did a terrible job. I also tried Patsy’s Nail Bar and while they did good work with excellent service, their prices are almost prohibitively high. Q West did great work at a fair price along with friendly, efficient service. Moreover, they are located only a couple of blocks from my apartment.
I’m looking forward to see how well my nails hold up over the next couple of weeks but if all is well I will definitely be back and recommend it to others.
