Quantum Pilates

I’m not one to write a negative review, but this place is not worth the money. It feels old and dingy inside. It’s definitely an older crowd, 40 +
If you’ve never been to any other studio you might like it, but there’s really so much more out there!
The instructor was very touchy and didn’t ask before hand if hands on assist was okay.
Would not recommend to a friend.

I really want to like this studio because its halfway between work and home and you really can’t beat that. This studio is very traditional. You’re probably not going to stray from Joseph Pilates’s exercises and you won’t be jamming to music. I think they do focus on form more than other studios because their classes tend to be very small. It also seemed like this studio had a more mature clientele than some of the other places I’ve been. Not positive or negative, just something to keep in mind.
I’ve taken two classes so far– group reformer and TRX. I didn’t find either to be particularly challenging. The way I see it, if I’m taking time out of my day to workout I want to really feel like I worked out. Neither class had enough flow to make me feel like I was working hard. My first group reformer class was kind of boring. I’m not sure if it was because the instructor wasn’t enthusiastic or I’m used to working out to music, but I was checking my watch during class to see when it would be over.
I thought the TRX class would get my heart pumping. But we paused after every exercise to adjust the length of the straps, so by the time everyone got their straps right and he explained the exercise, my heart rate was down again. This class had music, but it was not very motivating… more of a chill afternoon soundtrack. We did modified pullups and walking planks that were challenging, but I didn’t really feel a sense of accomplishment afterward.
The studio is modern but a little disorganized. There isn’t really separation in the main room with the reformers which I thought was a little strange. The group mat/​TRX room also has some apparatuses that it seemed like people were just using solo. I think this studio would be a good place to perfect your form, but their classes aren’t as fun or challenging as other ones I’ve taken elsewhere.

I took a Friday lunchtime Beginner Reformer class with Duncan and it was a great experience. The class was just me and one other girl, so we got a lot of personal attention– perfect for someone who is relatively new to reformer work, as I am. Duncan did a great job of explaining the different positions and working in all kinds of equipment. I’d highly recommend this studio for a friendly, non-​threatening pilates experience!

I have done Pilates at several studios, and this is the best. Their culture is to take the time to make sure you are doing each move correctly so your body gets the greatest benefit from your effort. I am happier, healthier, stronger and less stressed. My posture and my clothes look much better now.

I love this place. The instructors are world class and then receive the best instruction through the courses offered to become a Pilates instructor. Coming to this studio saved my back and now that I have been to other studios I realize that the training I received as a beginning Pilates student gave me an excellent foundation. If I had not gotten this foundation I would not understand how the moves should be executed or feel as they take the time to really show you, which other studios do not. And I believe I had that experience because of the passion of the instructors.
That being said I have really cut back my time at the studio over the last year or two. The instructor who has taken over the majority of the basic machine Pilates courses during the week comes across as uninterested and completely hands-​off. I noticed that often I was the only person in the class and even I could only take it twice. If this person had been my first introduction to the studio and Pilates, I would not have returned. I will not be returning to any of the courses taught by this person and hope that if they really do not have a passion for this work that they find something soon that does. And I really hope that the studio owner cuts back on the courses this person teaches and gives their time slots to the many other instructors they have that love what they do and are willing to make sure their clients are executing the moves properly and not just going through the motions.

I have been doing Pilates for over 15 years… and Quantum has some of the best instructors I have ever had. They really know not only the proper technique but know how to keep people from injuring themselves. Ryan H was my instructor for most of the 5 ½ years I was in DC and his background in martial arts and strength training gave our Pilates sessions an upper body strength focus which was long overdue. He started a fabulous TRX series of classes which will change your body if you commit to them. There is a cohort of people that are devoted to his classes… but there are many opportunities for new students to learn the techniques and join a great group of people from all walks of life in DC that just want to be stronger and healthier.
I love Quantum’s approach… you buy packages and then can schedule private sessions or classes on line. They have everything, TRX, Pilates (mat, reformer, chair One of my biggest regrets is that I know they will be hard to duplicate north of Boston… I can’t find anything that comes close to this experience!

Private reformer session experience;
it rather felt like expensive physical therapy sessions. i appreciated one to one session but i wanted more challenging session. i wasn’t sore nor sweating. it felt just too easy and relaxed. i looked around and most of clients were elder ladies… not for me…

Taking classes with a master instructor makes a major difference. I started here after taking classes at several other studios, loving them, but feeling like I was missing something. Mark delivers high quality instruction with grace and humor.
It is definitely a baby steps approach to improvement, which contrasts with the quick change, loud music, intense general pilates mat class experience being sold in other area studios. And I miss those classes when I have nowhere to hide in one of Mark’s classes and no music to drown out my body screaming. I am always sore the next day, but also have noticed improvement in my posture.

This was a life-​altering experience. I’ve had a bad back for years. They made the pain go away without drugs. It’s all about building the core. I can’t afford to do this on a permanent basis, but it was good while it lasted. And when things pick up financially, I’ll be back at Quantum to build up my strength,

I’ve only done private pilates based physical therapy sessions here but I just love the therapist that I work with. Carrie Jose really knows her stuff. After doing years of traditional therapy at area rehabilitation facilities, Pilates based PT is just what the doctor order at this point in my rehab journey. Carrie has been so helpful with schduling and even assisting me in getting my therapy covered by my insurance company. I highly recomend Quantum and specfically therapist Carrie Jose.

Love this place! Prices are reasonable (for DC), and staff are competent, passionate about their work and friendly. I’ve taken mat classes from Karen, Kate and Ryan; both are great Pilates instructors. Go to Ryan’s class for tougher workout, Karen for fundamentals and if you want to be kept to a high standard for form, and Kate for challenging forms and increased flexibility. They also have TRX classes, which are fantastic! You need to reserve these though, since they only have six spots. Ryan and Rachel are both great instructors for TRX. I’ve never been to a machine class, but have had private reformer classes with Ryan, Caroline, and a few others when they were apprentices. There are very few instructors that aren’t fabulous at Quantum, and all classes that I’ve been to have been better than average for the area. They have a variety of classes (mat, machines, TRX, and occasionally karate with Ryan when there is demand for it), and if I could afford private classes, I would definitely do it here. Very recommended!

I started doing pilates at Quantum Pilates and am a huge fan. The facilities are great and the teachers are great. Kate is especially great to work with.

Very mixed feelings about this place, probably owing to the very mixed caliber of instructors. The good: lots of class options, relaxed vibe, good prices for reformer. The bad: old machines, some instructors go too quickly, classes start late and end early. I prefer reformer pilates at Mint but prices are better here, as is schedule.

I took the mat classes with Sue and she was a fantastic instructor!
Lisa is awesome as well as she really gives individual attention to students. Both have different styles in how they teach the class. Mark’s class really flows perfectly and he gives individual attention to all.

I don’t belong to a gym because I won’t go consistently. Going to Quantum every week is easy and fun. It has become such an integral part of my week that I haven’t missed a session yet. I have worked with both Caroline Evans and Kate Cullen and both are great instructors — always able to show me how a move looks, able to explain it in such a way that I can make the move myself. They also have endless patience and they are easy to talk to.
Mark and the rest of the instructors make the studio feel warm and inviting. I had never done pilates before I came to Quantum and I haven’t left yet!

I’ve never done Pilates and am not a big fan of yoga because of the bare feet thing. But I took a risk (for me) and bought a Groupon for 5 group mat classes, so I went to the beginner mat class… and LOVE IT.
I’ve been traveling for work a LOT since switching jobs and moving to DC seven months ago and haven’t worked out at all, and have been eating a lot of restaurant food (the good and bad side of traveling for work, right?). So I was pretty nervous about how horrible this experience was going to be. But this place is so friendly! They are extremely helpful and it wasn’t embarrassing when they came over to help me. The instructors were friendly and knew what they were doing. I was really impressed and felt comfortable. The beginner class was great for multiple skill levels, as they told you how to kick it up or take it down some notches. I was really impressed and will definitely buy a 10 class package after my Groupon runs out. I don’t live or work in Dupont… but this place is worth going to. Close to metro, and there are places nearby to grab dinner afterwards.

Best studio in DC hands down. Amazing instructors, My favorites are Ryan and Hedi. They are both really nice and kick my ass in a good way.
They also offer teacher trainings for mat and machine.

I’ve started going to mat classes once or twice a week — they are more affordable than the machine classes, and you get in a great workout.
If you purchase the package of 10, the price drops from $ 20 to $ 18 per class… you have four months to use them, long enough to easily fit them into your schedule. There are a good variety of times to choose from, too, including morning classes on both Saturday & Sunday and most weekday evenings. I started out just going to the beginner mat classes, offered Tuesday and Thursday nights 6:45 — 7:45. Those are starting to get easier for me and so I got my nerve up to try a regular class on a Saturday morning last weekend with Kate as the instructor. It was definitely a step up difficulty-​wise, and I was pretty sore the next day, but I survived and felt good about going — thanks, Kate! The beginner classes set you up well for transitioning into the more advanced «regular» sessions.
I like how the instructors more often than not will explain alternate versions of each exercise, so you can make it easier or harder depending on your body. They are generally good about moving around the room and spending time with everyone, making sure you’re doing things safely and correctly. I always leave a class feeling like it was an hour well spent, well worth the $ 18!

Fantastic studio space, I can’t remember my instructor’s name but she was very good, detailed and offered saftey modifications as well as something to challenge everyone.
Pricey — $ 20/​class. Which is not really worth it for someone who wants to do other activities.

Beautiful studios – friendly instructor. I dropped in for a Friday group class for $ 20 – and was sore for several days afterwards. Wish it were closer to me – I’d become an addict.
