This is one of my favorite restaurants! I usually go during the lunch hours to get the salmon bento box and it never disappoints. Highly recommend.

Everything was good, except for they should never plate vegetarian rolls with fish rolls especially when dining in a group. My best friend is vegetarian and couldn’t eat the ones touching the other ones. It’s just an inconvenience that can easily be fixed. Other than that the food was good and I will be back!

To be honest, this restaurant doesn’t deserve its high reviews. Probably a 3.5 to 4. We ordered a soup of noodles called Goykai, if I didn’t remember wrong. Noodles is good, but the soup is way too heavy. Sushi is pretty good, and also the environment.

The pics I saw online made this place look trendy and romantic with low light but we were seated in the middle of the restaurant in very bright light. Overall the service was good and the sushi delicious. Unfortunately, I felt like I was under a microscope. If possible request seating on the sides.

Food: The good was good. This was prom night, and we were trying to make it to a party. We were late, but not because of the restaurant. The sushi is good, the soups are very good. I would suggest asking what is best, as the menu is to extensive and complicated to get a good sense of it unless you eat at Raku regularly. It isn’t cheap, but by the same token isn’t too expensive. Service: The service was good. We were trying to move quickly and were accommodated. Ambiance: The mood is good. You don’t feel like you’re eating in the midst of 100 other people, each table is a kind of private affair. The Japanese theme is also quite nice.

Everything between the floor and the ceiling of Raku is jaw-droppingly gorgeous, giving it a sleek and sophisticated ambiance. For such a nice restaurant, I was not disappointed by the service. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed by my dish. I ordered a Chicken Bento Box. It came with sliced and grilled teriyaki chicken, a mixed greens salad, California rolls, fish balls(or something that resembled them), and a mushroom/green bean salad-esque side dish(which I really enjoyed). My chicken was a kind of dry. I expected more, especially from a restaurant like Raku. The chicken was supposed to be the focus of the dish, so for this specific experience, I’m giving Raku a 3.5-star review.

BATHROOMALERT. THEYHAVEAWESOMELOOKINGBATHROOMS. 10POINTSTOGRYFFINDOR! Seriously, coolest bathrooms ever. Very clean, very modern, and yet still follow the Asian culture. I think I should just start to review bathrooms for restaurants and see how it compares to the rest of Unilocal’s reviews on food. Maybe there’s a correlation? On to the food now: I know a lot of people are saying this place is expensive but looking to the menu, it wasn’t anything unusual. I got the Sunday special box, can’t recall the odd name but it said, «a little of everything» and boy was it. The sashimi was very high quality to me — the salmon was actually much better than the tuna, which was a rare finding. This is not to say the tuna was bad. Also, the green tea pot had a bit of a rice texture to it, must have been made with the fried or boiled rice method which I know nothing about. It was awesome. The portions for the specials were huge as my colleagues got the ramen which they could barely finish. All in all, I would love to come back if I’m ever in the area, if not for the food than at least for the bathrooms. In this case 5⁄5 bathroom = 5⁄5 food and all

I had high hopes for Raku and wasn’t disappointed! I came here for dinner with the bf and walked out with a very full tummy. already thinking about my next visit! :D Here’s what we ordered: + Korean Hanger Steak Ssam($ 9.5): The steak is SO flavorful and juicy! Kimchee purée and spicy miso on the side go well with the steak and it comes with lettuce and rice too. Perfect appetizer A+ A+ A+++ + Salmon Sashimi and Green Apple($ 9): Very interesting pairing dressed with spicy yuzu truffle vinaigrette, kumquat purée and serrano pepper. I think this combo would work much better without the pepper; nevertheless, the sweetness of the purée and the green apple make this quite memorable. The crunchiness of the apple also contrasts perfectly with the buttery texture of the salmon. + Seoul Train Roll(8 pcs): These are sososooo good! Comes with tuna, kimchi and kaiware sprouts. The kimchi wins major points because its flavor and crunchiness add the perfect zing. Basically the rolls are«like kimbap except way better»(according to the bf haha). + Deluxe Jo Nigiri Sushi Assortment(13 pcs): The special included bluefin toro, toro aburi, salmon toro, amberjack, barracuda, madai snapper, mackerel, sweet shrimp, sea bream, baby squid, eel, salmon roe and sea urchin. I think they change up this assortment with daily chef selections so this might look different on your menu. Overall it was good, though it definitely wasn’t the best nigiri I’ve had. Not bad for $ 38 though! All-around good experience! Service was fast and our server was extremely professional. The outdoor patio is great for people(and dog) watching if you catch good weather. :)

We came for sashimi. Toro was MP(which turned out to be $ 22). I had to return it because it had something in it that I wasn’t able to chew. They offered to get me a new order of sashimi and told me «all toro is like that». Hmmmmm… I ordered the sashimi tuna in its place but I could not eat it because the texture was old and dry. Wait staff nice but nope… never again.

The fish is so fresh!!! Absolutely delicious! SUSHIMASTERCLINTONAPPROVES. This place was recommended to me by a coworker and it did not disappoint. We ordered the mothers day special deluxe jo sushi for $ 38. It came with bluefin toro, toro(fatty tuna), salmon toro(salmon belly), spot prawn(sweet shrimp), eel, sea urchin, salmon roe, spanish mackerel, japan mackerel, red snapper, hokkaido scallop, amberjack, and another I forget, total of 13 pcs. We also tried the tofu special, topped with uni and ikura, the uni here is absolutely amazing. it is really fresh, and has a strong uni taste. YUMMY! The takoyaki was also another delicious appetizer. Safe to say I will be back soon. Street parking available. Dog-friendly patio, we brought our dog and she got a lot of love from everyone who was walking by.

We have been there three times since they opened. It became a neighborhood favorite for us. We always find something we like on the menu. Crispy octopus, meso noodle soup, herb salad, and very fresh sushi. We always prefer outdoor seating although their indoor ambiance is good.

I can’t speak for the rest of the menu, but the veggie bento box is consistently fantastic.

This was a great Japanese restaurant in a nice location in Cathedral Heights. The wait staff is extremely friendly and the inside is welcoming and chic. I had their tonkatsu ramen and thought the flavors were spot on, very rich and satisfying. I’ve never had ramen with tomato in it though, so that was different but also very nice. Their soft boiled egg was excellent. The boyfriend also tried one of the sample boxes and everything was to his liking. I had some tempura and it was A+. The prices here are fairly reasonable as well which is always a plus!

3.5 stars — I just visited raku last night with my husband and some friends, I was excited to try this new restaurant because it’s close to where I live and because I love sushi. To start the ambiance of the restaurant was wonderful, we were seated at a very comfortable booth and the place was vibin’ — I definitely enjoyed the décor. To drink I ordered the plum wine, I really loved it. My friend and husband tried it and although they liked it they said it was very sweet, but that was ok with me because I love sweet things! We ordered edamame to share and that was a very good and light appy(appetizer) I ordered the sushi and roll combo for $ 18, it brought 5 nigiri pieces, 3 California roll pieces, and 3 little salmon roll pieces and 3 little cucumber roll pieces. I didn’t love the rolls, the nigiri was good but the California roll especially wasn’t amazing at all. I think the biggest reason that my husband and I didn’t love raku is that we for the money we spent(you’re definitely paying for the ambiance) we could’ve gotten much more and better sushi at half the price somewhere else. The sushi was bad but it wasn’t worth the premium. Side note: I had originally posted this review to the Raku in Bethesda mistakenly, but I deleted the other review and posted it here.

This is a good place for Sushi. But, that is about it, though the Ramen was decent but not excellent as I had hoped it to be. Nothing wrong with the dish but the soup was average to me. The sushi, on the other hand, was quite good. We tried a whole bunch of different sushi and sashimi and were not disappointed. The décor has a fancy feel and the place was quite busy for a late Saturday afternoon. Service was okay, though the sushi did take a while to get to our table. Would definitely recommend this place for the Sushi.

I must say, compared to my previous experience they have improved on their service. My husband and I walked in on New Year’s Eve and we were seated right away. We had a very nice server, she was helpful and smiley through the whole service. I ordered a milky sesame cocktail that isn’t on the menu anymore but she was able to ask to the bar for a special request. We had the asparagus and mushroom appetizer with yuzu vinaigrette, absolutely delicious! Continued with sushi; very fresh. Chilean sea bass is a must-try entrée, amazingly cooked very flaky white fish with a light tomato touch, a real delicacy. Kahlua crème brûlée was a good light ending to this beautiful meal. I must say, I was impressed with the whole experience and I will be going back again since I live right upstairs.

We headed to Raku with a group of seven for a friend’s birthday dinner. Even though they had a full restaurant, the hostess didn’t bat an eye when we said it was a group of seven. She quickly found a large booth for us and was able to slide an extra chair on the end, so we comfortable fit. The service was friendly and quick and they even gave us a complimentary dessert for the birthday boy – amazing bread pudding that used croissants! The atmosphere is trendy, but not snobby. The décor is really well done through out and was stunning to look around at. While I’m not a sushi person, everyone else really enjoyed the various rolls they ordered. I actually got the NY Strip Steak and was very impressed. It was cooked perfectly and had a ton of flavor. We live just down the street and will definitely be going back!

Have been twice in the restaurant and have ordered take out once. sushi is very very good. Best in the Glover Park /cathedral heights vicinity. The restaurant has a good atmosphere but the service is not so great. The udon noodle soup is popular but kind of bland. I’ll continue to order sushi from here in the hood but likely will not sit down at the restaurant frequently. Welcome to the area raku!

Searched Unilocal to find Raku. Raku is new to my neighborhood. But what attracted me was their menu, they offered a ginger pumpkin soup. That got my attention! What a treat. I did the three appetizer meal since I couldn’t decide on so many choices. This is a sushi place. But for the non sushi eater, there are plenty of options. The soup, dumplings and the grilled border springs farm lamb meat balls, provided a filling and delicious meal. The restaurant is unique as well, with modern Asian design, art, and mood lighting. All adds to a pleasing dinning experience.
