Wasn’t great! I went in late afternoon and the cake was dry and the icing was too! The workers were very nice though!

Every time I had stopped by the staff is wonderful and so are the cupcakes. I usually order the red velvet which is delicious. It just tastes like perfection. You have your tinted moist chocolate cake with a creamy cream cheese icing which makes it perfect. I also have tried various chocolate cupcakes and they were all delicious, except one had very hard frosting which I didn’t like. I guess it was a ganache frosting of some sort. Other than that, I have enjoyed their cupcakes. Never had an issue with the cupcakes tasting dry. When I do buy more than I can finish in a day, I usually keep them stored in an airtight container to preventing them from drying out.

Lemon coconut was the best one! The cake was soft and the hint of lemon flavor was just enough. Red velvet was okay — not a fan. Vanilla bean — cake wasn’t soft and frosting wasn’t enough. Birthday — was just chocolate and cake — frosting wasn’t good.

This is a really small cupcakery a short walk away from the National Portrait Gallery. What actually caught my attention was their cute sign on the sidewalk directing you to the cupcakery, thus creating a craving for a mid-afternoon cupcake! The overall set-up is quaint, but cute for how small of a space it is. It would be even nicer if there were a few high-chairs and tables, but alas there’s no seating in the store so it’s a more grab-your-cake-and-go kind of place! However, it’s quite understandable in my opinion since many in DC are on the go(either on their way to work, school, or if they’re tourists)! So whether you choose to stay inside the small space to shield yourself from the cold or heat — dependent on what season you’re coming by in — do you, you cupcake lover you! My friend and I shared the Southern Belle(basically a red velvet cupcake) and Summertime(lemon essentially) cupcakes. Both really carried out their flavors accordingly, however, what really made the cupcakes fall short personally was that the cupcakes were a bit dry. Not too sure if I’d be back again, but would possibly be open to try them out again to see if trying new flavors or coming on a different day will allow for this cupcakery to provide me with the moist cupcakes I know are possible(esp at $ 3.25/cupcake)! Nonetheless, still a good mid-afternoon treat after wandering around DC and needing that extra sugar high to keep me and my roomie going strong!

The Cookies and Cream icing is quite good, but the cupcake to icing ratio is a little unbalanced for my liking. The icing is piled too high in one location in the cupcake instead of spread over the entire top which made some bites too sweet and others dry. The top of the cupcake was very firm — almost like a muffin. It was also a bit dry and crumbly. Personally, I wasn’t a fan of this texture. I prefer lighter cupcakes. Considering there weren’t any other dessert options open at 10 p.m. in that area, we were quite pleased to see they were still open and still had a pretty good selection available.

The only two cupcakes I like here are the vanilla bean and Oreo Flavors. Everything else is not my cup of tea.

Delicately ate the expresso hazelnut cupcake. Oh snap who am I kidding, I devoured it, it was so good. Went back again this week for another. Pricey though so can’t wait to use my Groupon next time for a dozen.

If I could just order the cream cheese icing… I would. Truly. That stuff is delicious. Whenever I would visit D.C. for the past 3 – 4 years, I stopped here. Now that I live here? Cupcakes all the time! I really do just go for the icing. The cake is okay, but I’ve had much better. There are times when it’s soft, moist(I hate that word *shivers*), and delicious… but other times it’s like biting into something sad, like candy corn. I usually go for the Southern Belle. It’s my safe place. I’ve had a few of the others, but I always end up back there. Again, it’s for the icing. I’ve never had any issues with the staff. Everyone has been friendly and service is speedy. I also love that they’re open late. Back in Indiana, I can’t tell you how difficult it was to get a non-grocery store cupcake after 6pm. You’re okay with me, Red Velvet Cupcakery.

I had a hazel nut frosting with espresso flavored cupcake. It was quite yummy. The batter didn’t feel to buttery. I’ve never had hazelnut frosting and I thought it was fun. The cake texture was perfect, moist but not so much that it falls apart. I would definitely go back if I lived around the area.

I’ve been craving sweets. Better yet, cupcakes and I was a bit too far from the cupcake place I wanted to go to. So I spotted this place and decided to try it. 1. Pro — They had a good selection of cupcake flavors. 2. Pro — The cupcakes were flavorful as well as the frosting(red velvet was my fav). 3. Pro — decent price for a decent size for a cupcake($ 3.25). 4. Pro — the featured cupcake was my fav — vanilla cake with hazelnut frosting and toffee crumbs. 5. Con — it top of the cupcake was a bit too hard. 6. Con — one of the cupcakes was dry(B-Day). Would I come here again, maybe. But I am open to trying other dessert/cupcake/sweets stores around DC!

I tried their sugar-free red velvet cupcake and really enjoyed it. I also saw they had a couple of vegan options. While the cupcake itself was nothing extraordinary relative to well-known DC cupcake shops, I liked that they had the vegan and sugar free options available AND that they seem to be enjoyable.

Red velvet cupcake is tasty but they’re overpriced at about $ 3.50 each and they don’t seem to have all of their flavors actually in stock. Small shop so don’t plan to sit in there, have to get it to go and eat elsewhere.

Still on the hunt for a cupcake place in DC that doesn’t pile on globs of icing. RVC has an okay icing to cake ratio but its still off. I purchased four devils foodcake and while they tasted great the first night, the following days didnt help these little cupcakes. RVC is definitely a place where you buy a bunch of cupcakes and plan on eating them that day. If i need to bring fancy schmancy cupcakes for an event or birthday then i’ll be back but definitely not to fill my cupcake cravings.
