This place legit had THEBOMB fried shrimp and chips! Fried to perfection. Light, flavorful, just enough salt! Ah! Most people wouldn’t probably pay food truck seafood the time of day but damn is that a mistake! I just love when I encounter perfectly fried shrimp, its such a rarity! Great size as well. The customer service was great. They let us know it would be a wait and that is when I knew it was real, because the shrimp weren’t sitting back there waiting for me… I had to wait for them. Only like 10 min or so, and so worth it!

I adored the fish & chips today! The cod was tender and hot and the breading perfectly golden. Hard to get fish cooked this well even in a sit down restaurant. For me, the fries could use some work, they were limp. The coleslaw had nice dressing but would benefit from the cabbage being sliced a bit thinner. I will definitely be a regular for the cod.

So I was at Trucktoberfest, manning the Unilocal MDBurbs Table, which involved several heated matches of Rock Paper Scissors. I started out the day pretty strong, but it seemed like the wind wore me down. By the end of the day my scissors were crooked, my rock was loose, and you don’t even want to know about my paper. Don’t look at it! It’s hideous! So, while I was doing this, I was eyeing all the food trucks lined up in Wheaton Triangle. I have to be honest, my first choice was not Rocksalt. I confess, I have sinned. I was staring at this bright green truck named«Crave it» with starry eyes and a curious stomach. It was not until someone came over and told me that they had a fish sandwich from Crave It that was full of bones that I started to consider other options. It was that same Woman that said, «I was in New Orleans 2 weeks ago, and Rocksalt is the closest thing you’re gonna get to a real authentic shrimp po boy in the DC area. Trust me!» Sold. So I make my way over, get greeted by Duann(who is just a sweetheart in all facets of the word) Order a shrimp poboy with french fries. *Note; the french fries are sprinkled with old bay. **Other note: I’m a Maryland Native so some extra old bay would have been very welcome– it might be nice to have a shaker near the ketchup and what not. *A Note’s Note: They did have little cups filled with malt vinegar which was MUCH appreciated. I opened up the Shrimp Poboy to about 10 – 12 hearty medium shrimp lined up along the top of the sub like they were getting ready for«Gilmore, Liberatti, Pat Conway, The Great Creatore, W.C. Handy and John Philip Sousa» to come to town on the very same historic day! The slaw was light and the remoulade was delicious. The bread was perfect and the amount of shrimp… well, they did NOT skimp on the amount of shrimp. There was shrimp in every bite–«who could ask for anything more, who could ask for anything more». This truck… I’m gonna chase around. I’ve finally eaten some New Orlean’s style food, worthy of the name, outside of New Orleans.

It’s really hard to find a decent shrimp po boy in this area. But Rocksalt manages to get it right. The shrimp po boy is a MUST for my Friday lunch! I love the friendly staff, great food and reasonable pricing. I tried the fried pickles for the first time last Friday, and it was nothing short of amazing!!!

Well where do I begin… Um, last Wednesday was the first I decided to check out Rocksalt, thanks to an email from Unilocal. Now I’m hooked! The food is hot, yummy and somewhat affordable for lunch downtown. I’m surprised to get such yumminess from a food truck, as I haven’t been too impressed as of lately. The service is great, the food is just as good as the service and neither ever disappoints. I look forward to Thursdays, but starting in June, I’ll look forward to Wednesdays. The shrimp po’boy is one of the best I’ve had as the shrimp(which are plentiful) aren’t hard fried. I got a half, and I was full! My coworker got the shrimp and chips which was yummy too. This week my coworker and I decided to split a fish and chips, and I’ll have to agree with another Unilocaler that the fish sizes are a tad small, but I was full from eating 2 pieces and fries. The fish was hot with such a light batter… Oy, I can go on. :) Anywho, Rocksalt, when are you all opening a restaurant? We’re waiting…

Rocksalt is the bomb! It is by far my favorite food truck. It comes to Judiciary Square every Friday and if I am at work that day, I am eating Rocksalt. The shrimp and grits are the best I have ever had anywhere! I’m definitely hooked. The only reason I only gave it four stars is that they run out of food. They have gotten so popular you have to get in line early to get the shrimp and grits. The two ladies who work the truck are very friendly and give great customer service.

Awesome food, very friendly service… I have been here many times, the only thing is you have to eat the food when it’s hot, don’t reheat or it won’t be as good. I definitely eat here again and again. Highly recommend.

Originally drafted Feb 2015– FOODTRUCKALERT! It was meant to be. I’d been stalking this food truck for about 3 weeks now. After convincing myself week after week that it was just too cold to walk to the food trucks, I caved in today after seeing the truck on it’s way to the 6th and Dst location enroute to work this morning like a premonition. I work a few blocks north of Judiciary Square so on a nice day this is a beautiful 10−15min walk in the city. HOWEVER on a Frigid Febuary Friday, I was close to sayin«Forget about it!» So glad I didn’t. I’m an adventurer and a foodie… so basically I’ll try anything. Some ppl have reservations about Food Trucks and some have reservations about SEAFOOD Food Trucks… me…nah, I’m good. So a coworker and I ventured down to 6th and Dst to find RockSalt by it’s lonesome. We were greeted by a friendly young woman, placed our orders, gave our names and paid(using square). I ordered the shrimp and grits($ 13) and my coworker the shrimp and chips($ 12). We waitied about 5 mins for our food. Mine was in a nice(reusable) plastic container that could handle the heat grits retain(think Al Green). Hers in a styrofoam box. We walked back to our office and I was praying it was worth it… so cold! After settleing in at my desk I opened the container and was met with a visually pleasing hot dish of lightly fried shrimp ontop of steaming grits accompanied by a light cream sauce sprinkeled with bacon, the trilogy of peppers(red, green, and yellow), and diced tomatoes. On first glance I counted 6 medium size shrimp… but upon further inspection there were more shrimp in the grits… YESSSSSSSSS! I will definatley be back for this party in my mouth! I haven’t finished my lunch yet and I am stuffed… but i will eat the remainder any way because I’m a glutton. Rocksalt is worth the walk in 20 degree weather(but I wish there were at Gallery Place more often). See ya next time!

Each Tuesday and Wednesday we are fortunate enough to have food trucks visit our building. I give each one a try, but never fell in love with any particular one. Tonight we had our first(and hopefully not last) visit from Rocksalt. I almost didn’t go out since I had a meal that I was going to cook in mind. But I was tired after working late and the smell of delicious fish wafted into the lobby when I went to check my mail. I was sold. I went out and ordered the fish and chips. It was good although the fish portion was smaller than I would expect for $ 11. The sides were great. Would try them again but would get the shrimp next time.

Tuesdays are my favorite day of the week thanks to this truck! Three times now I’ve had their shrimp and grits and it never fails to please. It is hands down my most favorite food truck meal and it’ll be hard to beat. The shrimp are lightly breaded and fried, the breading holds its crunchiness even though the shrimp sit atop the grits. The grits themselves are simple, they aren’t loaded up with cheese or anything else to detract from the shrimp and sauce, which I like! Speaking of the sauce, it’s a light, tasty cajun cream sauce with a light touch of heat from the spices. Lastly you get a sprinkle of bacon and green onion. Folks, you’re doing yourselves a MAJOR disservice if you don’t give this truck a try. Yeah I know, «Seafood from a food truck»? Trust and believe, it is fresh, it is deliciously prepared and you will want to have it again! Oh! And the fried pickles are great too! They’re in «chip» form rather than«spear» form, which I greatly prefer. And lastly, the ladies that run this truck are friendly and obviously take great pride in serving a great meal! EDIT10/20/2015 — I have to bump this truck up to 5 stars. I’ve had the shrimp & grits more times than I can count now and it’s just consistently a fantastic meal. Unfortunately the gals aren’t in my work ‘hood this month so I’m going through a little withdrawal. If a food truck causes you to go through withdrawal, it’s worthy of 5 stars.

Rocksalt is a favorite of mine because of the made-to-order food, convenience, and friendly food truck purveyors. First time I went here I got the fried shrimp with seasoned fries and coleslaw. I received a generous portion of everything and the shrimp were large, lightly breaded and flavorful. The fries were a bit salty so I might ask them to hold back on the seasoning a bit and the coleslaw was nothing special but thankfully not swimming in mayo… but let’s be real coleslaw isn’t really my thing. I hope I see Rocksalt pop up again on my Food Truck Fiesta feed!

So good! I had a shrimp basket from another food truck last week. Big mistake. It may be $ 4 more than what I had last week, but the shrimp was so much better. Tasted fresh and the breading was sweet and light kind of like Tempura. Couldn’t eat all of my fries so I would say the portion is just right. I do wish it was a little cheaper than $ 12, but it’s yummy!

Wow! Really juicy delicious fried shrimp that, even after a five minute walk to the office, were piping hot. There were lots of them too — no scrimping here. The slaw was fresh and refreshingly spare on the mayo. But the fries, while fresh, were a little too over-salted for my taste. Still, a delicious and fresh lunch from a food truck staffed by two friendly women. I’ll be back!

As a native Floridian I’m very picky about seafood and was skeptical about a seafood truck. I must say the cod sandwich would be welcome in any FL seafood restaurant. It was very tasty with a subtle beer taste in the batter and wasn’t overly battered or greasy. I ordered the half and it is still a full and filling sandwich. The fried pickles are also okay, but not quite up to the level of the cod. This truck is a hidden gem in DC and I’ll be back here.
