This place is horrible to go for lunch or dinner. Menu is bland and food is only good if u had a few in you. The atmosphere looks great for drinks or as a place to pre game.

Had a lunch date with a few of my colleges here. I ordered friend oysters with fries and coleslaw. It was delicious! The oysters taste fresh, the fries were great and although I really don’t like coleslaw, I tried it anyway, it was surprisingly good as well. Definitely planing to return soon.

I went to happy hour here with a few friends and the French Duck Lollipops(lamb chops) were delicious but the drink prices were not listed under the happy hour section. Slimy marketing indeed.

Surprise Sunday Brunch Bargain! …I usually on pass by Rumors on weekdays after being at my dentist’s office up the street, when they’re not open. Other than giving them credit for longevity(they’ve been around since the early 1980’s, maybe even longer…) I hadn’t thought much of it. Last Sunday however, had me passing by at about 2PM, right about when hunger had me scanning for a place to get lunch. For years(decades, even) Rumors was to me, a college bar, and I hadn’t really thought of it as a restaurant. I noticed a few people eating at their outside patio, which is shaded nicely in the afternoon. Not wanting to face Mother’s Day restaurant crowds, I stopped in hoping for a quick, decent lunch. There was a brunch menu; with reasonably priced entrees, AND a free mimosa or Bloody Mary. I’m not big on brunch, but I DO like mimosas. SInce I had already had eggs in the morning, I gambled on the Shrimp & Grits. My mimosa was just fine, no skimping on the champagne, and the OJ didn’t seem syrupy. Entrée was pleasant, and hit the spot. Grits had a good texture, and weren’t pastey. Shrimp and andouille sausage were good too, enough spice for a kick without setting my mouth on fire. Decent sized portion — and at $ 11.95 was a good bargain, especially in that neighborhood. My server was pleasant, and I wasn’t waiting a long time for anything. So… this college bar stalwart can also be a good place for an affordable brunch/lunch.

Our office has been going to Rumors nearly every Friday for a few months now and have been getting great service on a consistent basis. There is plenty of variety on the menu to accommodate all of our tastes and all of our food arrives at the same time and hot! That is hard to do with a big group and we usually have at least eight people with no reservation and all wanting separate checks, which is no problem for the fantastic people who work there. The fried green tomatoes are out of this world good and come with crab! Can’t beat the fajitas or fish tacos but don’t eat the nachos(we call it nacho soup because they use a cheez sauce). Burgers, Reuben’s and wraps are all popular with our group and you can substitute side dishes, not limited to French fries. Free refills on soda and ice tea and great service, you can’t beat that in this big city. Yes, it is a bar. Apparently an infamous one at that. If the walls could talk in many places in this city. There is a fireplace in what appears to be the dancefloor at nights, there are also what appear to be disco lights. The bathroom is clean and well stocked. This is not a white table cloth establishment, but a great place to be anonymous for lunch as you watch the world go by on 19th Street NW, and you never know who you might see here. We just go there to get away from it all and have a good, fast meal from nice friendly people!

Had great sliders and my husbands burger was great as well with bacon to die for. Service was prompt and friendly without being annoying. The manager even made good on his promise to move us to outside from inside once a place opened up. Great experience

The service is fantastic and the food is great :) I’m from Las Vegas so I’m very spoiled when it comes to restaurants and I can easily recommend this place.

So it’s very difficult to find a nice quiet place to eat during the normal lunch hours in NW, DC but I think I’ve found a spot! I’ve walked past Rumors for almost 4 years going to wherever else I was eating not even thinking to stop in. My sis and I were looking for a cheap place to eat so after looking at their menu I decided to give it a shot. When I got there at around 11:50, there was only one other table seated. The waiter was friendly and didn’t stalk/rush me as I waited for my sis to arrive. We ordered the nachos. They came out pretty quickly. The nachos came with lettuce(like chopped from a head, instead of the shredded kind which kinda sucked), cheese(that tasted like Cheese wiz and wasn’t even hot), guacamole, sour cream, salsa and jalapenos. They were good, not great, but good. It was a fairly large portion and we were both surprised that we were full after sharing the plate which was about $ 9. Overall, it was a good first time visit. I’ll definitely be back, but I just won’t order the nachos again. Oh and BTW during our lunch only 3 other tables were sat and it was still very quiet.

Had the crab dip and fried green tomatoes! Excellent choice. The drinks were pretty good and the service was great. Check it out when you’re in town!

Eh, no thanks. I don’t even know what we were thinking stopping in here, from the outside I wasn’t a fan. The place was basically empty, the service was pretty slow and just bland. The food was burnt. We ordered calamari as an appetizer and it was burnt like black. I wish I would have taken a picture. However the kids mac and cheese was delicious, so many next time we should just order off of the kids menu.

This place is still terrible. I went there with work friends and kept it basic — nachos and wings. Cheese whiz on the nachos which were also burnt. The wings were not crisp and a couple in the middle of the pile where cold like they had been frozen and microwaved. The food is awful. The worst part is that it is not that difficult to make bar food decently well. There is clearly no effort by their kitchen to serve decent food. The changes to the menu had me hoping they had at least tried to focus more on food but it looks like it was just a change for show.

I’m gonna assume this is a late night spot for drinks and dancing? I went for an early dinner after some meetings in DC. Walked in and the place smelled of must and smoke. Gross. But, we were just looking for something quick to eat so we sat down and ordered. The food was nothing special. My co worker had a Cobb salad that consisted of iceberg lettuce, avocado, and dry chicken. Yuck. I had the chicken Cobb as well but in a wrap. Same ingredients, and the wrap was dried out. Server was friendly and attentive(there were very few people in the Restaurant though). So if you’re looking for dinner, maybe try somewhere else… I guess this spot should be saved for late night drinks and dancing.

My friends and I stopped in Rumors for an early dinner after a day of touring the city. It was empty when we entered. I can’t recommend Rumors for the food — my grilled chicken buffalo sandwich and fries were kind of bland. I would like to return later just for drinks; I’m betting it’s more suited for that purpose.

This is by far one of the worse restaurant experiences I have had anywhere in this country! The place is DIRTY, dusty and smells of mold and mildew. We opted to sit on the patio which is just as dirty and unkempt. The server Luis provided horrible service, as he was not attentive to any of his tables and would rather talk to his regulars at the bar. The food was just as bad. The fried chicken and waffles were poorly crafted. The chicken was rubbery and unseasoned, and the waffles were mediocre at best. I ordered a side of eggs, which came out cold and tasted of old frying oil. I do not recommend this establishment.

Juevos Rancheros and Bloody Marys are excellent! The bartender on Saturday and Sunday’s does a great job too, talkative if you want or minds his own business if you don’t.

Brunch date. The food was plenty. I had the chicken and waffles. The chicken was fried too long it appeared blackened. Country Breakfast was very good. The bill was very confusing.

I got dragged to Rumors after a comedy show at DC Improv. I do not like Rumors. It is loud. It is dirty. There really is no reason to go here unless you are single and in your early twenties. I am neither and I don’t like it.

I can only comment on Rumors’ nightlife. My friends and I came here all the time in our early 20s and it is therefore very near and dear to our hearts. Many of my friends, myself included, have come here for Bachelorette parties to dance the night away. Don’t get me wrong – this isnt’ a 4-star restaurant or bar. Rumors is super gross and seedy to the sober outsider. You will run into lots of weirdos here and women will have a hard time avoiding being hit on by strange men. But for me that is where the charm is – people dance without worrying what others think and wear whatever suits their fancy. On our most recent outing my group was dressed in crazy 80s attire and got through the door no questions asked. The one annoying feature is there’s almost always a $ 5 cover charge and I’ve never been able to call ahead so that large groups I’m with get in free. This last time we went they gave our large party half-off which was better than nothing. If you’re coming here for dancing the best time to come is after midnight – otherwise the dance floor may be empty. Also, don’t come sober… you need beer goggles on to see the true beauty that is Rumors.
