Completely agree with Catherine R. While Sangaree still has some very high-end, expensive items, it has started carrying some less expensive clothing, as well — on par with Banana Republic or Ann Taylor’s prices, but much more unique pieces. I buy lots of dresses there that transition well from work to weekday cocktails. The owner and staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, and invested in making your shopping experience personalized and memorable. Jayne, Churek, and Asa are wonderful.

Adorable dresses that will make your friends jealous. Friendly staff that remembered me(although I last stopped in during the fall!). Affordable, on-trend jewelry. What’s not to love?

Sangaree is a charming, high-class boutique smack in the middle of Georgetown’s M-street strip. You won’t find a metro that takes you there, so park in the residential area and walk down, or be prepared for a long stroll from Foggy Bottom. I stopped in one afternoon on my way home. I was not so interested in the clothing as I was *getting out of the cold*, but I had seen some cute things in their window, so I was glad to have the chance to browse. I ended up trying on a few things and meeting the owner and another clerk, who were/are both very sweet and helpful. Although I didn’t buy anything, the owner, Jayne, added me to her e-mail list and invited me to an upcoming spring fashion show, to which I took my fashionable mother. While not an NYC fashion event, it was a lovely night with appetizers, pretty sparkly drinks, women in heels, and some very pretty models wearing very pretty dresses. In other words, everything you want for a weekday date with your mom. Jayne is very attentive and sweet and the store as a whole provides great customer service. She e-mails me personally when things go on sale or they get a new shipment, and it’s obvious that she is interested in maintaining a happy, interested clientele. I recently made my first purchase– a fabulous pair of pants leftover from the district sample sale, marked down from $ 785 to – wait for it –$ 50. Tell me, can you beat that? The answer is no. For its small size, there is a good selection of beautiful and interesting clothing, including Ports 1961 and other high end brands. Most of it is out of my price range, but there is a whole corner of sale items(see above!) that are very reasonably priced and definitely worth looking through. I haven’t seen anything that wasn’t at least creative and well-made. You will not find boring clothes here. This is a once-in-a-while shop with limited merchandise and can be very unaffordable if you’re on a tight budget. However, the service is so friendly and the shop itself so accessible that if you have the money, or heck, even some spare time to browse, it’s well worth a stop. I would give four stars because of the high prices and limited merchandise, but then I think about those $ 50 pants… and I give a fifth star.
