Souvlaki Stop

Horrible horrible horrible garbage. $ 8 for stale bread and horrible meat, and not much of it. Anyone who likes this place has never had a real gyro plain and simple.

Gyro was delicious and a pretty good size for the money compared to the competition. The potatoes and baklava were a little weak. Would eat at again, but wouldn’t seek it out unless I really wanted a good Gyro!

First & Last lunch at the Souvlaki Stop. I am Greek and do not know the owners but am confident that they are not actually Greek.
–Chicken Souvlaki: only good part about this sandwich was the pita bread. I ordered extra chicken and there definitely was NOT extra chicken as I felt like I was eating a big lettuce pita sandwich with store bought tzatziki. What little chicken was in this souvlaki, it was overcooked and dry. ($ 9)
–Dolmathes: average at best with no lemony sauce. For some reason they provided tzatziki sauce to dip the dolmathes into — I have never seen that before in my life. ($ 3)
–Diet Coke: warm ($ 1)
Try another food truck. I should have just given $ 13 to a homeless person.

Today I ordered the dolmades and veggie pita (comes with greek potatoes)! The flavor was incredible and it wasn’t greasy like most medi food trucks! I frequent food trucks pretty much on a daily basis and this one is in my top 5!

Stopped by this food truck one day during the lunch rush in the city. bad idea. Though the line to order wasn’t long, the wait for the food was. After over 10 minutes of waiting, I received my gyro. I thought it was delicious, with generous portions of meat… very filling. I would go back… just earlier in the day next time.

This «Greek» food truck was not so much. Gyro was skinny on meat and the meat was of poor quality (tough, chewy, grisly); heavy on lettuce. If I wanted a lettuce sandwich I would go to Subway. The «greek potatoes» were swimming in grease, soggy, and tasted icky. Tiny, think half a shot, of tzatziki on the side. No good… Staff was friendly but I don’t eat people so I will not be back. If you want decent Greek food, the place in Union Station is good with hearty portions.

Kind of an inferior gyro. The meat was too tough and the yogurt too spare.

I see my rating is consistent with the average. The food truck staff are nice people.
Both times I ordered the gyro platter for $ 9. The portions were very generous and the meat was tender and tasty, but not the best I’ve had. Lots of good quality lettuce in the salad, but that’s about it other than a single smail piece of tomato and red onions. I expect a salad with more variety, and that’s important to me.
I probably won’t do them again.

Looks like this place is going through quality control difficulty, but let me remark on my experience — the chicken was excellent — perfectly cooked and seasoned. Nice chunks of feta and yohurt sauce. The pita bread was doughy fresh and hot. My chicken souvlaki sandwich was excellent for $ 7.

Chicken souvlaki sandwich was disappointing. Big chunks of chicken both bland and overcooked. I ended up throwing it away and eating the feta and yogurt sauce.

I tried this food truck for the first time today. I got the chicken souvlaki platter, which comes with chicken, rice, vegetables and salad, as well as a side of dolmades. First, you definitely get your money’s worth as far as quantity. I have lunch tomorrow as well! The chicken was tender and tasty, the rice was delicious, and they gave me plenty of extra yogurt sauce. The veggies were fine — roasted red-​skinned potatoes & carrots. There was nothing wrong with them — they were tasty — just something less starchy might have been nice. The salad was pretty lackluster — slightly browning romaine lettuce with a slice of tomato, and a watery, and too-​oily dressing. Better dressing, fresher lettuce, and maybe an olive or a chunk of feta would have been great. The dolmades, however, were delicious. I’d definitely go back!

I’m eating a greek salad with beef right now & I’m loving it. I love the big pieces of cheese, the 2 dressings & bread it comes with. Decently priced too. I’m a fan!

Friendly service and hard working crew in the truck, but the food just wasn’t that good. I got the beef souvlaki platter. The beef, dry and chewy, decent seasoning. The rice is OK. The veggies are basically a bag of frozen corn, peas, carrots, and green beans that are over seasoned, do not get these. The dolomades were good, and a nice value, getting 5 in an order. The salad was fresh, but had more of the same seasoning from the veggies. I probably won’t go back, but am curious to try the gyro. Too bad, they seem like very nice people.

Tried the bifteki, which was fresh and well seasoned. But, I was sad that they forgot my taztzki– the best part! After asking how long it would take (told 2min) it took over 10– maybe they rushed it out. Bummed. The woman taking orders was apologetic, though, and added some dessert. I appreciated that touch, and will try them again, and be sure to specifically ask for my sauce.
Update, and another star– found my delicious taztzki in the bag! Great sandwhich. Ok, it was on the default bulk-​food flatbread/​pita, but I happen to like that stuff. Definitely be back.

Same old gross Faux-​Greek cuisine– but in truck form. If thats what your used to and what you like, go for it. Its no different than the gross food of places like «Port of Piraeus».
This place is basically another crap halal truck with a Greek flag painted on it, capitalizing on the lack of a «Greek» truck in the area. Not authentically Greek at all, not even good.
If you like food trucks because you enjoy decent, real, or unique
food stay far away.
My issues with this truck:
— Its not even a souvlaki, there is no skewer, its chunks of meat cooked on a flat griddle, and you can’t even order it without pita. That’s not just bad, that’s half-​assed.
— No pork ‘soulvaki’. As an American, think of visiting an «authentic, classic» burger joint that does not have beef-​burgers on the menu. Souvlaki is supposed to be pork or chicken.
— Lettuce? Feta cheese? with Souvlaki in a pita? Does not belong, and ruins the taste and consistency.
— Beef souvlaki? Are you afraid peoples taste buds won’t like actual Greek food?
— Cheap supermarket quality pita bread was a given
— Hummus as a side? People in Greece have not even heard of hummus. Again, is the truck owner afraid that customers won’t enjoy real Greek food that Greek people eat?
— Completely inauthentic, corrupted food yet has nerve to call itself «Traditional, Authentic».
When food trucks are great, is because the people doing it had an idea and a passion. This food truck is a business, no passion or respect for Greek cuisine (highly likely not even a Greek owner) or even quality, just re-​packaging the garbage you’ll get at any of the horrid Greek options you’ll get in DC (minus Kellari) and trying to turn a dollar on it.

This new Greek food truck debuted today at Franklin Square. Friendly folks and tasty food. The Dolmades (stuffed grape leaves) were delicious.
I also enjoyed the Souvlaki, which I got over Greek salad w/​Feta instead of the default rice/​potatoes — I’m sure they’re good, but the salad was a lighter/​healthier option; the lettuce was crisp & fresh.
