Amazing! The hot pastrami sandwich is, without a doubt, the best sandwich I have ever had, and I’m an undisputed sandwich champ. Go there. Go out of your way to go there. Come in from out of state to go there. You’ll thank me later!

As others have noted, get the hot pastrami and get ready for meat sweats. $ 15 for a delicious sandwich that can easily feed 2 – 3 adults and a small village of children makes it a permanent fixture on my DC eats list. They also sell really fresh cuts of meats so will be going back to try the butcher section.

My little brother, who lives in Georgetown, took me here when I reminded him we needed sandwiches for our respective journeys(him by bus, me by train). He said we absolutely should go here. Stachowski Deli is casually on a block surrounded by the townhouses characteristic of Georgetown. Inside you are greeted with the pleasant smell of smoked meats. It is a very European smell. They have all kinds of products on shelves and in the fridge, from meats to crackers to jams. There is a huge bucket of pickles on the floor. Brother ordered the 4 Meat sandwich(which is 2 feet long!!!) and I ordered the turkey club minus the club(no bacon). We also ordered a quarter pound of bresaola to snack on. I didn’t try my brother’s sandwich, but he’s obsessed with them so it must be good. My turkey sandwich was big, but not as big as my brother’s. It is much more sensibly sized. The smoked turkey was absolutely amazing, and I’m not much a fan of smoked anything. It was so big that my eating method was basically to chomp as much off I could on each side and just work my way to the middle. The bresaola was also extremely good. Bresaola is pretty uncommon because it’s difficult to make from what I understand. It’s sort of like beef prosciutto. So obviously when we saw it we had to get some! It was very tender and was excellently spiced with rosemary and pepper. If you see some bresaola in their case, definitely splurge for it! Bresaola here is a little pricier than it is at the Whole Foods in Atlanta, but it’s superb. Just try it! Overall would definitely recommend Stachowski for meat lovers.

A big thank you Mr. Stachowski and his team. This place has long been a huge favorite of mine, and yesterday, with the help of my fiancé, they coordinated a birthday surprise I won’t forget. The«DeVault Dip» sandwich was amazing! Many thanks and keep doing what you do.

Love neighborhood delis and markets. Meat quality seems great here and the sandwiches are enormous so the prices aren’t bad. Buttttt… I first had the pastrami, which is their best seller. And it was sooooo salty that I couldn’t even finish it(and I am not one to leave leftovers!!) I really tried to finish it but it was just way too salty for me(I’ve had bomb pastrami in new York a few times now and they were never on this salty level). Went back a second time and tried the hot french dip and their version of the italian. I enjoyed the Italian. Thought the French dip was a bit dry but guess that’s what the dip is for. The peppers in it are yum. I think this place is decent and I will probably try their meatball sub next. Just will never be ordering the pastrami again! Don’t know how people eat that!

Best. Deli. Ever. Found this gem thanks to Unilocal.Located in a quaint Georgetown neighborhood, you wouldn’t know it exists but will be glad you came. Known for their pastrami, but everything is good. And huge. Don’t worry about paying $ 12+ for a sandwich, as it’s easily good for 2 meals… even for me. The pastrami is thick cut, so you can really taste the meat. Also fat to lean ratio is perfect. When you have a chance, get their clam chowder(don’t think it’s made daily). Not the most traditional chowder but probably the best I’ve ever had.

Hands down the best pastrami sandwich in the DC, MD, or VA areas. They give over a pound of meat per sandwich. The pastrami sandwich costs $ 17, which I must say is very expensive for a sandwich. But, when you eat THIS sandwich you will be willing to have paid double that. It is on par with Katz and Carnegie. The only con to this place is that there is very limited seating. You have to go home to enjoy the sandwich.

Not being from the area, I used Unilocal as my guide to food and this place had popped up on the map. Suffice to say, the pastrami looked huge from the pictures and proved its worth/girth and otherwise when viewed in person. Also, I don’t eat meat all that much but in some occasions I will sacrifice to do so. So, I bought 3. I was meeting with friends the next day so I figure why not bring them something nice from the East Coast? I don’t really believe in little trinkets or those shirts that say«I went to _________and all I got was this lousy shirt» type things so this was as good as it was going to get. We had about 8 people in our group. These three sammiches fed all of us at one point, and I still had leftovers in the form of half a sammich the next day. Some was also donated to the dog a friend had brought a long solely because there was just too much. The pumpernickel bread was good, thickly sliced. Held up well with a good consistency. The pastrami was fantastic, nice and tender. There were also rave reviews from the friends that munched as well that had reiterated the same sentiments. Initially, there was also the statements of «what the f…», «that’s freakin huge!», and«how do I bite into this thing?». If I’m in the area, this would be great for a sammich fix if I want to piece it into a few different meals. After experiencing it myself, I don’t think I could climb this mountain solo despite whatever dreams of grandeur my stomach had going into the meal.

Amazing and HUGE! My wifw and I odered a meatball sandwich and the 4 meat grinder, it could have easily fed 6 people. The meatballs were incredible homemade meatballs. They have very limited seating so its an awesome lunch to go.

I think their sandwiches are top notch! I’ve had the pastrami a couple times and the meat is outstanding. The bread, pickle and mustard are great too, but that meat melts in your mouth and is so flavorful! I lived in NYC for three years and strongly believe the pastrami here would make any New Yorker jump for joy! Also, HUGE sandwiches. For most people splitting a sandwich would be a smarter option. Especially if they don’t want to consume two days worth of salt in one meal ;) I also enjoyed the samples on the counter. It was some type of pâté yesterday. The meatball is great too. I’m going to try a Grinder next. FYI: Very limited seating, but close a park for seating on a nice day(26th& P).

I was walking all around Georgetown and surrounding areas today and found this spot! The young man behind the counter was great, friendly, warned me about how big these sandwiches were! It was huge. I barely ate half and was stuffed. Saved the other half and gave it to a person asking for money. The atmosphere was small town and friendly and the sandwiches were amazing. They also have other items for sale like veggies, meat, ice creams and coffee. I would recommend this place. Limited seated.

3.5 stars The sandwiches are good. But not good enough to eat more than once a year for my own tastes(and pocketbook). I always think I enjoy the sandwiches more than I actually do while I’m eating them. Pretty sure it has to do with the allure of how big the sandwiches are… only to find out that you end up with a mouth full of onions because the whole thing won’t fit in your mouth. Over the course of my annual visits I’ve had or tried many of the sandwiches and my favorite is the turkey. Turkey sandwiches are easy to do ok but are hard to do good and Stachowski’s does them good. I definitely do not like the pastrami but that’s mostly because I’m weird about anything that’s that chewy. My latest was the grinder($ 14). The meat and cheese and bread are great on it but it’s stacked so tall that you have a bite of onion, then a bite of lettuce, then the goodies. I would much rather pay $ 8 and get half of that — and I wouldn’t care what direction it was halved in(if a dog wears pants, does it wear it on the bottom half or on the hind legs). Plus if it was smaller the bread wouldn’t get soggy while it sits there in its lettuce and onion juices. The main reason to round down is that everything is a bit too pricey for me, not just the sandwiches. Maybe it’s because it’s Georgetown but when Brussel sprouts are 4x that at the grocery store, I feel a bit taken advantage of. We have gotten meat here and the meat is great, but know that big cuts have matching big price tags. Expensive but that lamb makes a damn good gyro.

I’ve been looking for a good oversized sandwich place for awhile… and at last my search is over. While this quest has taken me many ages and my body has become weak and weary, I have finally made it to the promised land… located in a small corner shop deli. Sure, I could go up to Philly and stop by Reading Terminal or go a little further to Katz… but I wanted something within an hour’s drive. This isn’t to say there aren’t good sandwich shops around, but there aren’t many that regularly cater to the level of ridiculousness that I expect. Now that I’ve found you, I’ll need to try more than just the pastrami.

The Stachowski experience is indescribable!!! Oh the pastrami, yes the pastrami, meatball, 4 meat grinder and smoked kielbasa sandwiches. Did I mention the pastrami? The homemade pickle slices are an added bonus. Check out the refrigerated cases for Pequea Valley Farms yogurt and hard to find beverages, that pair nicely with, you guessed it, the pastrami, lol. Don’t forget about the table in the corner. Nurse, I’d like to have some seafood ciopinno stew in my IV. Employees are very helpful, professional & welcoming, which adds to the Stachowski experience. Step into this little piece of heaven on earth & you’ll rave about it too.

A sandwich for giants! I got the Turkey club and it was pretty big, but my friend got the meat grinder and it was huge! My turkey club had three layers of bread and was filled with fresh ingredients. I didn’t realize it came with bacon so I had to scrape that off. One sandwich could definitely feed two people — I personally think the meat grinder could feed four. Come here hungry and with a partner to share your sandwich with!

I have been dying to have a good pastrami sandwich for months since moving to WV. Unfortunately, I don’t think anyone here has heard of it before. :( So I took advantage of my trip to DC to finally get some pastrami. The deli is quite small, but filled with all sorts of goodies like pies, ice creams, cookies, brownies, and of course — meat. The meats looked great and if I didn’t already have 30lbs worth at home I would have gotten some. I had to focus on getting a pastrami sandwich. I ordered, then paid. It was about $ 15 for the sandwich. As I sat there waiting a while for the sandwich, I thought that was pricey for a no frills pastrami sandwich. I figured it was city prices. Then my sandwich came… I could have sworn I heard the beeping of a large truck backing up to my table as my server brought delivered my «sandwich» using both hands. As my sandwich hit the table, I felt the Earth tremble before its heft. Seriously, it is the biggest sandwich I have ever had. Five enormous slices of toasted rye bread, spread with mustard, piled ridiculously high with large, hot chunks of pastrami, and a couple of homemade pickles. I immediately conceded to the sandwich and my goal was just to eat half of the sandwich. Even that would be a challenge. At first, I couldn’t even bite into it, as it was so thick you would need to by Stephen Tyler to be able to fit this in your mouth. So I started by eating the pastrami and breaking the sandwich down into a size I could fit. Let’s talk pastrami. If all you have ever had was pastrami sliced at a big chain grocery deli(like me), then you won’t be prepared for this. Hot pastrami here is like eating steak. It’s about a ¼ of an inch thick, with varying lengths. They pretty much use a whole cut of meat, so there are different parts of the cut, some fatty, some lean. I like them all, but if you were picky, there is enough meat here to choose from. Flavor is unmistakably pastrami, and delicious. Once I thinned it out a bit, I ate it in sandwich form, which is the real magic. The toasted rye with mustard is fantastic. I was hungry before eating, so I wolfed down this beast in short order. I ate at 3pm. I was so full that it was my last meal of the day. I took the other half of the sandwich home, and weighed it on my food scale. It was 20oz, or 1 ¼lbs. Meat only, 1 pound. So what I thought was a pricey sandwich was actually a great deal — 2lbs of quality pastrami for only $ 7.50 a pound. I only wish I didn’t live 5 hours away.

With 235 reviews under their belt, I won’t pretend to impart any additional wisdom here. Suffice it to say the pastrami sandwich is… …RIDICULOUS! I mean that in an awesome way, of course! Very friendly staff too. Nestled within quaint residential streets, the place is an absolute find! Sorry — can’t give you 5 stars ’cause that would be very Benedict Arnold to my NYC tri-state peeps who crank out THE pastrami sandwich! That said, we badly need some bi-partisan agreement in this neighborhood and this meat haven may just be the place to reach across the aisle. Pass the pickle McConnell, I may give this spot 5 stars yet if you stop hoggin’ up that Grinder!

It is a tiny gem with excellent marbled steak and cold cuts. Sits may be 7 people. My reheated Perozki is great. Love the flaky crust. I am not sure the filling is my type. It has beef, black bean, rice and etc. It is a perfect lunch for hungry man. 4.5 Still hungry? Can you swallow their Pastrami? It is huge. I thought they handed me a baby at first. It’s basically over a pound of thick cut juicy meat married with mustard, sandwich between the thick cut toasted pumpkin nickel. describing it makes me hungry. It doesn’t taste the greasy and thin sliced liked that famous one in LA. This is a meat lover sandwich for 2 at $ 16. Their dill pickle is my new favorite pickle. Not very sour, yet very crunchy. 5* I can’t wait to come back to try the 4 meat grinder. I looked over the other guy with it. It is big liked a toddler.

I was looking forward to coming here especially because I’ve been in the neighborhood often but never seemed to notice this market & deli. It’s at the corner of 28th and P St NW and a few minutes away from the busy M St. corridor in Georgetown. It’s a quaint shop that is surprisingly diverse in offerings. In a time when people are rushing and bumping into people, I was pleasantly surprised when a gentleman held the door open for me before he walked out with his purchases. As soon I walked in, I was greeted by a guy in the middle of the store. I was a little surprised as I did not expect the cashier to be right in the middle of the store but I like being greeted. I asked whether I should place my sandwich order with him or someone at the counter and he said either way and yelled my order back to the counter so someone could proceed with making the Grinder. Meanwhile, I perused the store and saw fresh veggies and bread for sale. There were also homemade pickles for $ 1/each, fresh cookies for $ 1.50, pasta, Trickling Springs Creamery products in the refrigerator, chocolates, and meat and fish for sale. It took a few minutes to make the sandwich, and I barely had enough time to peruse the store’s offerings before someone yelled my name. I was shocked when I was handed the sandwich, which came with extra vinaigrette wrapped in its own separate container. The sandwich had actual weight to it(on my unofficial scale at home, it weighed in over 2 pounds at least), and I understand why people say it can feed more than one. At $ 12.99, almost $ 14.30 with tax, it might be expensive, but since Wednesday, when I purchased it, I still have ½ the sandwich left two days later and can only eat ¼ at a time. It might have been the commute home via bus during rush hour, but the sandwich was soaked through. Despite two layers of tin foil and a butcher block paper, and carrying it in the store provided brown paper bag, my sandwich was soggy and a mess. The bread wasn’t that great. The peppers were truly hot(that’s ok), and the meats were only ok, and the provolone has held up. I’m dreading eating any more of this sandwich as it wasn’t that good, even when I first ate some of it on Wednesday right after I arrived home with it. I had my doubts about the chocolate chip cookie but I can’t resist freshly made cookies. I should have. Based on its appearance in the store, they had what my mom calls a «well-done» quality and isn’t the soft, gooey cookies I prefer. Some other tidbits, they make dinners, which you can call ahead and order, and there is seating inside. I’m tempted to come back and try a meatball sub but I didn’t find the striatta bread that the Grinder came in that good. It’s a shame because I thought the striatta, for sale at $ 1.99, was a good deal.

Seriously my favorite sandwich spot. Yes it’s a little pricey, but I think you get what you paid for. The sandwich is literally bigger than your head packed with tons of meat and other deliciousness. This recent time I ordered the roast beef au jus. Omggg… It was sooooooo tasty. So much food. The roast beef was so tender and cooked perfectly and the peppers in there gave you that little kick you need when eating all that protein. Please please do yourself a favor and skip that subway sandwich and eat here!
