I’ve had better luck when dining in. Apparently one hour delivery equals two hour delivery, the fish was very warm, and when I called to ask where my food was the guy wasn’t the friendliest.*I found two hairs in my box tonight, I can’t see coming back*

The shrimp fried rice is THEBEST I’ve ever had. And, their happy hour is pretty good as well.

DONOTORDERTHESALAD with«ginger dressing.» I am pretty sure they chopped lettuce(way too many times) and then gave me Italian dressing from a Newman’s Own bottle and put a spec of ginger in it. I would absolutely not pay $ 4 for that. Pros: They are fast if you want carryout. They say food will be ready in 20+ minutes, but it’s ready within 15. Cons: A little over priced for the quality. Quality is average to below average. Even though I enjoyed my $ 7 spicy crunchy yellow tail roll, it tasted like a $ 5 roll.

I disagree with all the bad reviews. I came to this place couple of times and every time everything was excellent: food was amazing, service very good, very good deal for happy hour. What about people who complained about this place I can tell only one thing — it’s just those people you can never please with anything, whatever you do. So — 5 stars! Very good guys! Will keep coming here more!

This place was ok… but the prices were a little steep. The servers were great though!

The food was good, but the service was pretty terrible. Once they finally realized we actually wanted a table for dinner, it took four requests to get a glass of water, which finally came toward the end of the meal. Definitely do not go if you are in a hurry.

$ 4 rolls and $ 2 beers for happy hour. I dont think you can find a better deal in the city, and the food is good. Probably one of my top three favorites when it comes to food quality. I like how they have the Nats games on in the evening, and they have a new manager there who is very nice. She reminds me of my mother. Im a fan. Check it out.

I really enjoyed my salad and sushi here! The eel sushi roll was very soft and tasty! I also ordered a minced pork salad wrap. The minced pork was so tender and delicous! I could eat that every week! I also enjoyed the sushi! The meal was decently priced at under $ 10 an entrée. They’ve also got live jazz band players on Friday nights!

I ordered delivery. 45 minutes later, they arrived. Only not with all our meals. I called to ask the woman if she could deliver the remainder; she said the kitchen was closed and then copped an attitude when I asked for a refund. She offered to give me store credit… I told her if she wanted to give me that and a refund, that’d be great. She gave me a refund. To add insult to injury, it was not very good.

Service here was good. Took them a minute to realize we hadn’t been helped, but when they did they made sure to take care of us. Sushi is average but ok. Had a couple of rolls and seaweed salad. Little pricey for the quality tho.

Surprised at the awful reviews here. I ordered takeout from Sushi U and it is not bad at all. It’s perfectly average takeout sushi. Had the asparagus, rainbow, and beautiful rolls – fish on the fish rolls was tasty and a good texture; rice on all rolls was just fine. Folks who are comparing this joint to Sushi Taro should take a second look at the pricepoint on the latter. The same person is probably decrying Dominos $ 5 special pie for not being as good as 2 Amys.

DONOTEATHERE!!! Within 5 minutes or getting my papaya salad I noticed a small bug on the table. Upon further inspection it was a BABYROACH, I continued my meal anyway… Big Mistake… 3 more BABYROACHES appeared and the last one crawled on my friends plate. I think they were coming from the base of the table… IDK, but I couldn’t finish my food and I paid $ 70.00 including a nice tip for the waitress. Please avoid at all COST… Nasty…

I’m giving 5 stars to the wonderful sushi chief here… I love how nice they are. Everything always taste fresh, and its always made to order. I don’t like when I have to sit at the tables here, the staff is not really friendly and often times are very rude. I guess this is what you get if you want to go someplace and just have a quiet meal, and just relax.

I must have walked past this place a hundred times during my adventures on U Street and always had an interest in going in but never did. Well my interest finally got the best of me and I gave Sushi U a chance. While not blown away by my visit and afterwards I am in no rush to go back I will say it wasn’t a bad experience at all, it was just nothing special. I came in and sat at the bar which I do find to be a cool thing about Sushi U, is they make the rolls right there in front of you, this is no different from a lot of other sushi places but it’s always something that I enjoy. One of the sushi chefs handed me the standard sushi place menu with a list of all the available rolls and the classic golf pencil to make my selections. He didn’t attempt to explain the pieces but they were standard sushi fare so nothing really needed to be explained. I ordered a Crab Stick roll, a California roll and an Eel and avocado roll. The Crab Stick roll left a lot to be desired, the piece of crab was miniscule and the flavor didn’t come across even though it should seeing how it was teamed with simply rice and seaweed. The California roll was good; it was your standard California roll not particular hard to mess up. The Eel roll is always my staple at Sushi places, mainly because it is my favorite roll to order. Their eel was good, once again nothing spectacular but good enough to meet my standards of a quality eel roll. Overall the quality of sushi was decent. I did enjoy the décor, the place is small like a lot of places on U Street but they get a nice ambiance going and added bonus is they share the space with Sala Thai which usually has some kind of music or live band playing and you can hear the music at Sushi U as well. It adds to the dining experience. If you turn the napkins over a Sushi U, Sala Thai is definitely printed on the other side, I thought this was funny. The wait staff was decent, they too weren’t anything special but made sure my water was refilled and asked me once or twice how everything was. The prices are fine for this establishment and what you would expect from the quality of the chefs and food itself. All in all a decent dining experience. If I’m taking a stroll on U Street and the urge for sushi hits I might stop in Sushi U again but it definitely wouldn’t be a planned destination.

I gave a review on this place earlier in the year but I have since changed my mind. The staff has an attitude and the sushi chefs are not as friendly as they used to be. In fact I went for lunch two weeks ago and one sushi chef told me NO there were no lunch specials and when I asked again all of sudden there were 2 minutes before the specials were over. I got a plate of sushi and it was alright nothing compared to what I received a few months back. When I could not eat it all I asked for a sushi dish to go. The chef told me the black ones were too expensive to give me, I already paid less for the sushi special so I don’t deserve the sushi dish. I made a mistake and left my jacket there too, called back the next day and it was not there! i will never go to this place again! Terrible service!

The sushi here is pretty disgusting. Once I noticed that most of their offerings are just California rolls with different toppings, I had that sinking feeling. So, I ordered the 5-piece Nigiri Sushi(5 different types of «fish») and CA roll combo, which seemed pretty tame, along with a spicy scallop roll. Spicy scallops had the flavor of fishy air, and each piece of fish in the combo was increasingly horrifying. One piece, I believe, was just tasteless white rubber with the oddest(not in a good way) texture; I’ve eaten a lot of sushi, and I have no idea what it was. Anyway, the plastic display sushi probably would have tasted better. I sat in the Thai restaurant next door, so I can’t comment on the service of Sushi U.

I can’t give a thorough review because I only had one thing – a tuna/avocado roll – but it was quite good and reasonably priced. The décor and vibe is quite nice and the service was very good and friendly. I’ll go back.
