DC has a ton of cupcake options, and I personally don’t really like cupcakes all that much, but the Sweetbites Mobile is my favorite. Sweet Bites was started by an Italian environmental scientist, who has had a pastry catering business since 2001. The menu for the most part is cupcakes, but every day there is also a small selection of bars, cookies, scones, muffins, coffee cakes, or other pastries. I tried three cupcakes. Chocolate Coconut, Pumpkin Spice, and Triple European Chocolate. Let’s start with the Chocolate Coconut. This was a really good cupcake. First off, I love coconut. This is a chocolate cupcake with creamy frosting, topped with moist coconut. The cake is also perfectly moist. Not too dry. The frosting isn’t too sweet. The best part is the amount of frosting. I like to cut off the bottom half of the cake and put it on the top of the frosting to make a cupcake sandwich. Delicious. Next is the Pumpkin Spice. Mmm. This wonderful cupcake is unfortunately only available in the fall. It is a pumpkin spice flavored cake with creamy cream cheese frosting on top. The cake is deliciously moist and icing is extra creamy. It would not offend me if there were even more icing, but it is apt. This one is a dark(yum) chocolate cake made with Belgian cocoa, topped with smooth French chocolate frosting and Belgian chocolate shavings. This cake was good but I prefer the coconut or the pumpkin.

Sweet Bites are literally the best cupcakes in DC. I often try to start my week with a diet, but it never makes it past Wednesday; because that is when the Sweetbites truck visits my work site. I’ve eaten Georgetown Cupcakes, Curbside Cupcakes, Red Velvet Cupcakery and Sweet Bites are by far the best I’ve eaten. Sandra offers a wide variety of choices, from red velvet to salted caramel(my favorite) and all are them are delicious. What I like about her cupcakes compared to other trucks\stands that I’ve tried, is that you don’t have to eat them immediately to enjoy them. I bought a dozen and they were still moist 2 days later. Definitely worth the $

Umm… I didnt like it. I wanted to, but the chocolate buttercream was bitter and I didnt think the actual cake was that good. I am so disappointed because this food truck is always near my office! I will give it a star because the woman who was running the truck was super nice. I am going to try the double madagascar vanilla and will delete this post and give a better rating if it is good.

Sweet Bites is hands down the BEST cupcake provider(trucks & bakery) in DC. I’ve had ATLEAST20CUPCAKES& pastries from here and keep coming back for MORE, see below in order of my favorite! –Cookie Dough –Cinnamon Bun –Apple Caramel –Tiramisu –Salted Caramel –Eggnog –Gingerbread –Lemon –Pumpkin –Bittersweet Chocolate Ganache –Boston Cream –Bread Apple Pudding –Lemon Bars –Cheesecake Brownie –Gingerbread Cookies What makes the cupcakes unique is the aesthetic, innovative flavors, moist fluffy cake, sweet frosting, and superior customer service. The cupcakes truly resemble the flavor. If I was blind-folded, I could accurately guess the flavor without fumbling. The ratio and combination between the cake and frosting is spot on. The cake is just as good as the frosting, which is rare, usually one is better than the other. At $ 3.25, the cupcakes are a good size(same size as Hello Cupcake) and decently priced. The customer service is excellent. Sandra, the food truck owner, is inspirational and very passionate about cupcakes. As a scientist, Sandra uses her chemistry knowledge to create unique cupcake flavors. Her hard work has truly paid off. I enjoy talking to Sandra and she very well deserves tips. I usually go for the weekly special flavors. My FAVORITES are COOKIEDOUGH, CINNAMONBUN, APPLECARAMEL, and TIRAMISU. The Cookie Dough frosting is too die for and perfectly paired with the very moist chocolate chip cake. The Cinnamon Bun is dainty with cinnamon swirls and cream cheese frosting that melts in your mouth. There was such a high demand for the Cinnamon Bun cupcake that it became one of the 11 daily flavors. I’ve had many Apple Caramel cupcakes at other bakeries and they can’t get it right and fall short of Sweet Bites. The moist cupcake, with APPLEFILLING, and gooey cream cheese frosting tastes so much like a slice of apple pie that honestly I forget that I’m eating a cupcake. The luscious Tiramisu cupcake is delicious with brown swirls and cream cheese frosting. Tiramisu is a rare flavor and Hello Cupcake is the only other bakery that also has the tiramisu flavor. Hello Cupcake has a different spin on it with a mocha cupcake and mascarpone frosting, and a coffee bean to top it off. While both cupcakes are delicious and closely resemble the dessert, I like the aesthetics of Sweet Bites better. You can’t go wrong with any cupcake at Sweet Bites. However, they are some cupcake flavors that aren’t as special or memorable: Bittersweet Ganache, Boston Cream, and Lemon. I probably wouldn’t get these flavors again, I’m trying to think back on what they taste like and am drawing a blank. I had the Gingerbread cupcake with Marshmallow Buttercream Frosting and I honestly couldn’t taste the marshmallow. It just tastes like normal buttercream to me. Although the cupcake was good, the brown sugar frosting(the one used for Salted Caramel cupcake) would have been a better choice. Also the Eggnog cupcake was good, I enjoyed the moist rum cake, but the frosting needs some work, it tastes more like lemon than eggnog. I had the SALTEDCARAMEL cupcake and the frosting is AMAZING! The sea salt and caramel drizzle is perfect to top off the brown sugar frosting. The chocolate cake was a disappointment. It was rather dense and caramel filling would have done the trick. The 11 daily flavors are underwhelming and get overshadowed by the rotating weekly and seasonal flavors. I wish Sandra tried a little harder with the daily flavors, they don’t peek my interest. The cake portion needs some work. So, I would RECOMMENDSKIPPING the DAILYFLAVORS(aside from Cinnamon Bun) and just ordering the seasonal or special weekly flavors. I don’t recommend some of the other sweet bites like the apple bread pudding, lemon bars, gingerbread cookies, and cheesecake brownies. They left a sour taste in my mouth. At $ 5.25, the apple bread pudding is a bit overpriced. Served warm with caramel sauce, the pudding is a decent size and triple the size of a cupcake. I made the unfortunate mistake of getting both the pudding and cupcake and eating them at the same time(I was so eager to try them), that I was on a sugar high the rest of the day and one step closer to diabetes. If the pudding was the same price as the cupcake, I wouldn’t mind giving it another go. The gingerbread cookies, these with a huge disappointment. They were hard as a rock, good thing I didn’t chip my tooth on the first bite. The cheesecake brownies were pretty dry and a let down. I just scraped off the top of the cheesecake portion and some of the fudge that I could salvage, and then threw the rest out. Although the lemon bars were a few notches above Corner Bakery’s lemon bars, they honestly weren’t my favorite. I RECOMMENDSTICK to the CUPCAKES. Overall, I love Sandra and Sweet Bites cupcakes. I’m a loyal customer and a big fan of her cupcakes. If you see a pink food truck and and a friendly blond hair woman, stop by for a few SWEETBITES! :)

I had just finished eating my lunch(from another nearby food truck) and was getting ready to snatch a bike from the Capital Bikeshare rack and head back to the office when all of a sudden, this big pink truck pulls up(near Metro Center @ 12th& G) and I just couldn’t resist! I ordered a cinnamon roll cupcake for myself and a carrot cake cupcake to take home to my hubby. I wasn’t really sure what to expect with the cinnamon roll one, but I thought, «it’s just ONE cupcake, give it a try!» Booooooy, am I glad that I did! The icing is actually topped with cinnamon & sugar, the bottom of the cupcake had a cinnamon & sugar like crust and it was simply FANTASTIC! The actual cake part was very moist and had a cinnamon swirls throughout. I was pleasantly surprised at how well they did with this particular flavor cupcake. I have not yet had a bite of the carrot cupcake yet(I wanna give my husband the chance to have the 1st bite of his own cupcake), but I did take a lil’ swipe of the icing and it was really good! The price was on point w/other DC area«cupcakeries» coming in around $ 3 each. There have been times when I paid between $ 3 – 4 for a cupcake, only to taste it and feel like I’ve been robbed because the cupcake wasn’t worth $ 0.25. In this case, I was happy to fork over the $ 6& change because these fluffy puffs here were definitely worth it. Being the cupcake lover that I am, I can’t wait to try some of the other flavors! [Added bonus — she had a cupcake box for 2 that really helped protect them from getting totally smashed while riding bikes the rest of the day!]

Sandra knows how to make a FANTASTIC cupcake. I love cupcakes and rarely eat cake. I’ve tried almost every cupcake place that DC has to offer and Sweetbites is the absolute best. Why you may ask? Because her cakes will still be moist and delicious 2 days later. Sandra’s frostings are always perfectly balanced and I love it when she puts little bits of fruit or coconut into the cake batter. And I HATE coconut. RUN don’t walk to Sweetbites Mobile Café. Sandra used to be a chemist and she knows how to create flavor.

Still amazing! I have a hard time not stopping by and getting a cupcake or two when this truck is nearby. I will be first in line once Sandra gets a store front!

The salted caramel is the best thing they had. I love sweet and salty and it was perfection… Also had the chocolate chip bread pudding… it was good but not the best I’ve ever had. Stick it in the freezer… trust me, you’re welcome. Two gripes… the lady on the truck took foreverrrrr to bag everything up. and that’s the other problem… the bags… you can’t put cupcakes in bags! they fall over and the frosting falls off… and you can only put two cupcakes in one bag so if you’re buying a dozen… that’s six bags. My order… three cupcakes and a bread pudding… I walked away with two bags and a plastic container for the pudding. Not needed. get some boxes and you’d bump up a point!

Holy moly! *Pros: –Pink food truck! –Friendly customer service! –Moist, moist moist cupcake! At first bite, I wondered if the cake was made with cornbread mix! Who knows, but this cake is right on! –Frosting melts in your mouth. Literally. It’s that delicious. –This is the first cupcake I’ve had in the DMV that was equally good in cake and frosting. Usually, one or the other is better, but that is not the case here. The cake and frosting are equally good on their own, and then just meld together to create a small piece of perfection. *Cons: –I can’t eat it everyday! –Slightly more expensive than their brick and mortar cousins, annnnd it’s not available on a whim. *Verdict: –Five star cupcake! Some of these other cupcakeries should take note!

Great Cupcakes… poor communication. I went all the way to 17th and K today to find no truck. She said she would be there till 3:30PM I rushed and got there at 3:01PM. IF I ever go again I will certainly call first. I suggest you do the same. Not to worry, I stopped by Hello Cupcake in Dupont to satisify the mrs. Tony missed the sweet and just got the Bite! OUCH

THEBESTCUPCAKE I HAVEEVERHAD – in my life!!! The chocolate peanut butter Cupcake was a cup of heaven. Cake was moist, tasty, not too sweet. The peanut butter frosting made me die a little inside. It was like an orgasm in my throat. When I worked at L’Enfant Plaza on Maryland Ave. These cupcakes were my diet deal breakers. A bit pricey but sooooooooo worth it. Way better than that George-Porge Cupcake place.

This truck has recently started coming by my office building every week or two, and my coworkers and I make certain to visit it every time they’re there. I have yet to find one of their cupcakes that I dislike, and I am absolutely in love with their Buttershot ones. They’re also really good about bring at least some gluten free cupcakes with them, much to the appreciation of one of my coworkers who has celiac disease. Most of the other dessert trucks out there don’t bother, and the fact that Sweetbites does really sets it apart.

***UPDATE**** I still really like the cupcakes here. The cookies & cream is a favorite as well as piña colada(perfect pineapple coconut cake) and carrot cake(yummy maple frosting). The cupcakes here are always fresh, moist and tasty. Service is fast and the owner is very pleasant. She provides great customer service while running the truck. I would definitely recommend stopping by if the truck is in your area.

After I saw this truck pass by my office around 10 am as I was arriving to work, I was craving a goody from Sweetbites all afternoon. My entire office(like 9 people) went to Matchbox for lunch. As the waiter brought us our check, she asked, «So, you don’t want any dessert?» We said no thanks, but really I meant, «Yes, I want dessert, just not from you.» I stopped at the Sweetbites truck during our walk back to the office, and 3 of my coworkers joined me, asking what flavors of cupcakes I liked most from this truck. «Ummm, I know I have been talking about this place all morning, but I actually haven’t been here yet, and I didn’t actually come for the cupcakes. I want a brownie or cookie or something.» Unfortunately there were nothing but cupcakes in sight, so I ordered the Raspberry Amaretto. As I waited for my three coworkers to order their cupcakes, I took my cupcake out of the bag, and began to eat my cupcake. I began to lick the frosting, because the frosting is the main indicator of whether I will enjoy my cupcake. It was thick and filling, somewhere in the middle of marshmallow and whipped cream-A little thicker than the typical Pillsbury frosting. It wasn’t sweet at all though. I hadn’t licked off all the frosting from a cupcake in a really long time, but I did this time. The cake was pretty moist as well. Definitely A-OK, though I really wanted another type of baked good that day. I hope I’m lucky enough to walk by them again while they are carrying the other goodies. As I licked off the frosting from my cupcake, the owner stared at me from inside her truck, stating, «Is it good? I never get to see anyone eat my cupcakes. They just always walk away with their bag/box.» Yeah, I am incapable of carrying a cupcake around in something other than my mouth.

Faced with a tempting array of cupcake flavors, it was a tough choice — but carrot cake with maple cream cheese frosting won out! This cupcake was outrageously good. The cake part was moist and well flavored — the frosting was just right too(not overly sweet.) $ 3 is a little steep for a cupcake, but it’s a once in a while treat anyway!

Farragut Food Truck Friday! WHOOOO! I’m a cake fiend. I admit it. So when cupcakes were starting their trend down here, I was in heaven. Admittedly, I’ve only tried three cupcake places in the area, Curbside Cupcakes, Hello Cupcake!, and now Sweetbites. I’m a fiend, but I can’t go chasing down *every* cupcake place in town and expect to have a job! :) Today I treated myself to a cupcake for dessert, and got the chocolate peanut butter. I was pleasantly surprised. Usually peanut butter icings are WAY too thick and WAY too rich for me to swallow, but the peanut butter icing on this was light, and not rich at all, with a general taste of peanut butter that doesn’t overwhelm you. For those that say the cupcakes were too dry, I hope you come back, because this one was deliciously moist almost all the way through. I found some dry areas, but honestly, it’s going to happen in a cupcake. If it was 50% dry I would be upset, but 98% of it was completely moist, so I was really happy with it! The lady serving them was incredibly nice as well. When I get my waistline down to a reasonable width, I’ll be back for more, but now I must head to my treadmill and walk off my dessert!

The folks in the van are super friendly, but the cupcakes are just OK. To be fair, I’m not big on chocolate — and a lot of their cupcakes are chocolate or a variation thereof, so there very well could be gold somewhere on these 4 wheels. I’ve tried the Madagascar Vanilla — which was surprisingly lacking in flavor — and the pumpkin cupcakes. Both were just OK but pretty bland. The frosting significantly overshadowed the cake, and I really didn’t like texture of the cake. The cupcakes I’ve tried have also been really dense, and instead of being a nice sweet finish to lunch, ended up being more of a lump in my stomach the remainder of my day at work.

Well, Nick’s ROTD for here spurred mine considering I forgot to write a review, and I was with him one of the times he went. So I guess that’s what I get for not reviewing. He who hesitates is lost!!! ROTD!!! Anyway, I agree with Nicko that these cupcake are pretty good. I like to see if I can keep it at my desk all day and not eat it until the work day is over. It’s like a little game I play. How long can I stare at the yummy cupcake without eating it? I prefer these cupcakes over some others in the McPherson Square area. Usually the cupcake truck likes to join the lunch truck scene at Franklin Park at 13th and K on Fridays, especially during the summer. I agree about the line too. Sometimes you can get lucky and just walk up but not usually. But at least it’s worth the wait!
