Very cool experience! Walking around DC on a Sunday evening after dinner and came across this wonderful event. Lots of people young & old just having a great time dancing. Everyone was there to share their passion for tango and experienced dancers would help out the beginners who need to practice. Very beautiful event on a cool summer night with The Capitol as a backdrop.

An outdoor plaza with a view of the Capitol, an iTunes playlist, traditional and neo tango floating down from two speakers, and dozens of Washingtonian tangueros floating around under the moon. I love this city. There’s usually a great crowd here, novices and experts alike, and if you don’t like to dance, you can just watch; there are always curious onlookers congregating shyly on the edges of the«dance floor.» There are a few exhibitionists(there are some in every crowd, aren’t there?) And on the whole, it’s a summer’s worth of lovely, moonlit nights, good music, beautiful people, and pleasant weather. Please stop by.

On Sunday nights in the summer, there is a free milonga(tango social dance) downtown, at Freedom Plaza. Tango dancers, novice and experienced, moving to the gorgeous music are a sight to behold. PRO’s: — beautiful outdoor venue — free — many people with whom to dance CON’s: — rough dance surface — hot as Hades, sometimes — drama queens, occasionally Check the tango calendar to make sure it’s «on» for the weekend you intend to visit:
