A menu full of appetizing surprises. Great upbeat atmosphere with music from all areas. Attentive service and great sandwich menu. All around A+. I do recommend for lunch. Quaint spot for families and couples.

Very classy British pub with AMAZING and very friendly service and great food! I recently visited for lunch and was very impressed. Since it’s the holidays, they had tons of lovely décor up. I ordered the Fish And Chips(traditional Battered Pollock, English Chips and House Tartar Sauce) and loved it! Super fresh and crispy and I loved the sauce. What really stood out is that the waiter /owner introduced themselves and made it a point to connect with diners, especially those who are locals. That’s a great personal touch and gets people to come back and visit again. I love British pubs and The Alibi particularly stands out. I will certainly visit again for some delicious British fare!

This place is amazing! Just a short walk from the Capitol, this is the perfect place to grab lunch. The sign in front of the door advertises honest British and American pub food, and it definitely delivered. Let me preface with the fact that I spent the summer in the UK. The fish & chips here are the real deal — perfectly fried and with malt vinegar on the side. The owners were very friendly and even gave everyone a free sample of the just-made eggnog ice cream(which was so amazing that I ordered it for dessert, even though I was already stuffed). If I’m ever back in DC I will definitely come here again!

Oh man, this is the stuff. Was starving after a tour of the Capitol and wandered in to this place super hungry and just wanting to eat anything. Was so pleasantly surprised to discover one of the best meals of my trip to DC Had the special, which was an orange fennel salad. Well thought out and good use of in-season citrus. Ordered a side or Mac and cheese and it was by far the best Mac and cheese I’ve ever had. Very buttery and full of herbs. Finally for dessert, I ordered the homemade eggnog ice cream which had been made fresh 10 minutes after we walked in. So freakin good. The food here was a clear 5⁄5 and surprisingly very vegetarian friendly. Service is equally as wonderful! The owners chatted with my table and checked on us several times. They gave everyone in the restaurant a free sample of the ice cream, which was so nice. If you live in DC, go here. If you’re visiting the city and are close to the Capitol, stop by! A real winner.

I’ve been a vegetarian for over 20 years and turned vegan 2 years ago. I’m always looking for places serving vegan food because a travel a lot for work. I came across The Alibi today and was shocked that a pub actually provides so many vegan and vegetarian options. The staff was very knowledgable and considerate. I explained to my server that I was vegan and the chef came down to go over all of my options. I ended up getting the portabella bbq sandwich on a sub roll with collard greens sautéed in olive oil. Devious and so flavorful. I am excited to see places like this embracing veganism and hope others follow.

This place deserves a chance… despite not having the liquor license, which is coming soon, the food and atmosphere are as tavern/pub as they come. The liquor license backstory is local politics at its finest/annoying. Definitely worth your trip. Wings were top notch. They even make their own homemade ice cream. I certainly recommend Alibi to Unilocalers and friends.

Great crab bisque and Mac and cheese. My husband had the coronation chicken salad. All delightful and not a crumb left over. A bit out of the way but actually close to everything. Thanks to Unilocal for finding this for us.

I ate outside on a cooler night. I expected the fries to become soggy as they cooled but they remained as crispy as the first fry eaten. The owner explained how they are cooked and what type of potato he uses. I never knew fries could be so time consuming. I thought you drop them in the fryer and that is it. Nope. Not at the Alibi! Order the fries and you will taste how that extra effort produces such a quality product.

This is completely new and miles better than the previous business that occupied the space. The cubano is the best I have ever had.

Great spot for lunch in an area that doesn’t have many. They put a tremendous amount of thought and effort into the menu, which is reflected by the food quality. I’ve tried a variety of their offerings and haven’t had a bad one yet. And once they get their liquor license, it’ll be a good place for drinks!

They have great food. I have had at least 7 different dishes and they have all been superb. The owner takes 100 percent interest in his product and the way that things are prepared. I highly recommend this place. I have been with several coworkers in the area, and every coworker has said it’s on par with neighboring Charlie Palmers, but for a better price. In the nation’s capital? Stop by here for lunch.

Amazing Authentic British food. The English Chips are by far the best in the city. They use a 3 step process to make them. Ask then for curry sauce with the chips I had the Heinz 57 burger and it was amazing. Atmosphere is clean and new. I rarely give 5 stars but here goes!

I think the first review is a bit unfair. Yes, Unilocal is a sounding board, but in moments of frustration, people can hurt a good restaurant as it’s trying to get off the ground. The Alibi is a good restaurant with matching customer service and food. They even make their own ice cream. The Alibi was able to cater for a retirement lunch and offered us a 3-course meal for an affordable price. Staff was extremely accommodating and friendly. While it is true they don’t have their liquor license, they are working very hard to obtain it. They also don’t have it for reasons beyond their control. I would recommend this place and will keep coming back. It’s nicely decorated, clean, and with a good atmosphere.

Although it is true that when we went they did not have their liquor license, the food was very, very good. All of the ingredients when possible were made by them: I had a pastrami sandwich; the pastrami was cured and cooked by them. They also offered us a taste of their homemade ice cream as well. The service was top notch; the owner came out and greeted us too and was very entertaining.

No beer at a tavern! What tavern does not have their alcohol license? Apparently this one. They advertised breakfast/brunch on the menu posted outside. We were seated asked for a brunch menu and a mimosa and they said they didn’t have breakfast or alcohol. They are not what they seem. Do not call yourself a tavern until you have alcohol and do not advertise breakfast if you don’t make! Not even in the morning.
