My mother was in town and I wanted to take her somewhere for a nice breakfast. Originally we planned to head to another local restaurant but that restaurant advised us of a long wait so we checked out The Chesapeake Room. The menu has lots of variety to include delicious shrimp and grits(my mom had), chicken and waffle(I had) and seafood omelette(the hubby had). Everything was superb and we were in and out in in less than an hour!!! This is 8th best keep secret, drop by and check it out! You won’t be disappointed! Thanks to the management and staff of The Chesapeake Room for giving my mom a great experience today!

Amazing food and service! Would definitely come back for the southern comfort food and delicious cocktails! Highly recommend shrimp and grits, Nashville hot chicken and waffles and the southern charm burger! Deviled eggs and grilled oysters were also great! Patio was relaxing and comfortable!

Absolutely love this place. It’s open with beautiful light coming coming in. The fish tank is always beautiful to look at. They have a list of the fish that occupy the fish tank. Brunch was amazing. Potatoe hash has full of flavor. Great portionsWill be back. Matt the bartender rocks !

This is one of my favorite dinner spots in DC. The food is outstanding. My favorite dish is the brussel sprouts with bacon. The fish dishes are always flavorful and the chef pays incredibly close attention to detail, adding in all sorts of flavorful ingredients. I’m shocked this place doesn’t have a higher rating on Unilocal.Yes, the place looks a little run down, but the food is amazing, service is fast and it is inexpensive.

This is our second time coming here, and it was not bad. We came on a Thursday night after work, and was greeted by a really nice guy. It looked like he was the only one working at the moment, but he was still able to make our drinks the way we liked and got out orders I ordered the mixed greens with balsamic vinaigrette and my wife got the devilled eggs. My salad was delicious. The dressing was not over powering, and the veggies were crisp. Her deviled eggs were tasty and bacon gave it the extra kick. We both ordered the chicken and waffles, and they were tasty! Crispy chicken tenders and yummy waffles. They were 2 small triangles but they hit the spot! This restaurant has a small menu, so don’t expect a large variety of foods. But the meals they do have are delicious. It’s a place I would go to every once in a while, but their menu changes with the season. Of you are in the area, check them.out. the drinks are great and the food is as well.

No. No. No. There are just too many other food options on 8th St. Brought my mom here for a Valentine’s Day brunch. Place is dead aside from the couple sitting next to us and a few people at the bar. This seemed odd on such a busy holiday — and it should be noted we had a hard time getting into the two places we attempted immediately after leaving here abruptly. As we sat down on our own, because no one greeted us, the couple next to us inquired about their Bloody Mary they had ordered 20m earlier. First sign. We flagged down a server(who was wearing a different staff restaurant on his tshirt) and ordered two mimosas. He handed us two filthy, crumpled up menus. Second sign. After a few minutes, the bartender asked us how spicy we wanted our Bloody Mary’s. I corrected the order — noting two mimosas. Third sign and done. I asked if they were understaffed and the bartender became belligerent. He then asked me if I’d ever worked in a restaurant. Aaaaaand we left.

We happened upon this place after every other spot on the row had a wait. We sat at the bar which for me is always my first and best choice. It took a minute to get our drinks and order but the bartender was friendly and seemed slightly over worked. After placing our appetizer and food order we waited about 30minutes before the app of bacon deviled eggs were delivered. About 10 minutes later the entrée arrived, the BLT. Outside of the wait time everything was delicious.

I came by for brunch over the weekend and ordered the eggs over sausage and potato hash. The sausage was spicy and the rest good but seemed small and basic for the price. Surprised that a «southern”-styled place doesn’t serve tea, sweetened or otherwise. The bartender has an amusing treatment for a Saved by the Bell revival, if you’re interested.

Went here with some family for Sunday brunch. I’ll Pro/Con this restaurant to make this easy. Pro: The grits. They were really good. Con: Everything else, including but not limited to the service, all other dishes, the ktichen’s ability to get our orders right or even properly include all of the items in our dish. It took us forever to get our waiter’s attention and it surely isn’t because the place was packed. Our orders came out incredibly wrong and the waiter couldn’t be bothered to even mention it. Two of our dishes were missing main ingredients listed on the menu. I hope this restaurant comes under new management soon so the location doesn’t continue to be wasted.

What happened to this place? Is it under new management or owners cause, the difference is astounding. I’ve been here for lunch/dinner several times. I remember the service and the food, it used to be amazing. In fact there is a tip from me on this restaurants Unilocal page that the Angus Burger and Fries rivaled 5guys(which it absolutely did) back in January 2015. Ok lets just get to it. We came in late for dinner, around 9:30. Get seated and 3 of us ordered a burger. Of which the menu said something the extent of «2 patties, cheese, and typical other toppings you can guess»(something like that). 1 person specified that they wanted their burger well-done. When they came out the guy in our group asked which one was the well-done one… DEERINHEADLIGHTS. No fucking clue. So lack of communication between wait staff and kitchen. And the burgers, though good, are not what they used to be. As far as standard toppings go, the only thing that came topped on it was onions and pickles. I hate pickles, wish I would have known so I could have ordered them without. They switched fries as well, which either just weren’t good at all, or they were fries that were sitting in a warm oven all day. As far as wait service goes, what a mess. Whether anyone in particular was the host, the waiter, or the bartender, was impossible to tell. 3 different people came to our table throughout the evening. There was a female, I believe blond(idk), who I swear I saw her come out from behind the bar and hug, and be all chatty, with customers more than her doing her dang job. And thanks for that sweetheart, I loved that you took 20 minutes to make my Moscow Mule and how convenient it was for me that, despite that we were well done with our meal and absolutely ready to leave, you bring me my drink right at the butt-end of our dining experience. So unprofessional and disorganized. Also, last thing, they were out of almost every single beer on tap. And have some common sense about it, if all you have left on your Ale is the bottom dregs of the keg, then advise the customer to order something else. I really loved drinking the extremely flat beer, when a real bartender would have known better than to serve that.

There are two tables in the window that face 8th street — they sit two guests and are quite charming. The Chicken and Waffle(Picture attached) was flavorful and the sauces that accompany are quite unique — I recommend the hot sauce. The Bloody Mary(Picture attached) fell far short for me… asked for bacon — and he blended the bacon into the Bloody Mary — I have never had it like that nor do I recommend it…(GREAT Bloodies a few doors down at Matchbox — perfected!) and while the bartender and the manager knew there business and were quite attentive and helpful — the(perhaps new) girl at the front was not very informed… didn’t know the menu, a little shy, didn’t know wifi password — asked me if I wanted her to go ask… just bizarre — perhaps she was new /young — would like to see management get her up to speed. They are a new business so perhaps they will get their footing — but with places like Ambar a stone throw away — they better hone their trade quickly…

Came just for drinks while doing a happy hour tour around the neighborhood. They offer $ 1 off drafts. Not the best deal. They had the Hell or High Watermelon, which I have been wanting to try for awhile, so I went with it. Not bad. Much subtler on the fruit than I expected. Back to the space: it has just ok décor, light colored wood, pub like, with a giant aquarium above the bar. When looking for a good happy hour spot, atmosphere and price are two key factors, and they were both just ok at Chesapeake. Lots of outdoor seating seems to be their specialty. As the rest of the neighborhood became bumping, they were pretty empty here, so if you can’t get in elsewhere, this is a good fall back option. It’s not a bad spot, but ultimately, you can get better deals and atmosphere at multiple places on the block.

My sister and I came here during brunch and it was great! I’ve seen a lot of negative reviews but our experience was not that bad. Compared to Ted’s Bulletin or other places the wait was nothing which can be such a relief. We ended up ordering the same thing because it looked SO good– Eggs Benedict with a crab cake. It was great! We also had their calamari appetizer which wasn’t anything spectacular or unique but still very good. Their coffee wasn’t bad either. If you are looking for a good meal and not a long wait this is your place.

Ted’s Bulletin had a 1 hour and 50 minute wait for a table for Sunday brunch. Right next door The Chesapeake Room was 80% empty. That’s probably all you really need to know. Everything we ordered was miscooked. Over easy eggs were delivered over medium. Over medium eggs were practically hard boiled. Steak ordered medium rare came out medium well. The seafood omelet had 3 measly pieces of shrimp in it. Service was the redeeming quality, but when the restaurant is mostly empty, I’d certainly hope service would be solid. Next time I’ll wait it out at Ted’s.

My review is not for the food but for the service. A group of my friends and I stopped in The Chesapeake Room while strolling Barracks Row over the weekend. During happy hour, we wanted to pop in for multiple drinks. We were seated near the bar, and once our waiter discovered that we were only ordering drinks, he was fairly rude. We told the hostess we were just there to drink during happy hour, so I assumed we wouldn’t get this treatment. While I could understand how it may be frustrating during peak dining hours for a group of four to take up space when just ordering drinks, this was very early, the restaurant was nearly empty, and we were planning to drink quite a bit and tip generously for good service, as we always do. However, we couldn’t stomach the waiter’s attitude for more than one round of drinks, and we bailed. Not that anyone was anywhere near waiting for the table. Disappointing, especially considering that the menu looked very appealing, but I’d be hard-pressed to come back.

We visited on a Friday night. The inside is kind of on the small side so the only seating was outdoor seating, which was covered and heated. Between the option of the 45 minute wait at Ted’s Bulletin and sitting outside, we opted for outside. Our waiter was pretty good and the chairs outside are super comfortable, the cushioned ones. We ordered mussels and crab soup for appetizer, the mussels were fantastic the soup, average. For entrée we have the crabcakes and seafood pasta. The crab cakes, as well as the crab soup had WAY too many shells, it was disappointing. Other than the shells the cakes were full of lump crab and decently seasoned. The seafood pasta was okay but lady a little to be desired. We probably won’t be going back, if so it will only be for those delicious mussels.

Goodness in my mouth. Geez. I ordered the cream of crab and it pleased my palates so much. I also got the egg sandwich and the serving was huge. Delicious though! I was ambivalent about this place because I really wasn’t craving brunch. They start serving lunch at three, which I think is pretty late but that’s just me. We walked in at two. My friend has been raving about this place for a while. I’m so glad I finally tried it. Check it out!

Just mehh. We settled here after discovering that Ted’s Bulletin next door had an hour and a half + wait. We were seated right away and service was friendly. We all loved the giant fish tank above the bar as well. The only reason I give it 3 stars is because of the food. I ordered the fried green tomato crab cake benedict dish(I forgot what they call it). It was so-so. GF ordered the french toast which wasn’t that great either. Other friend ordered the steak and eggs and was a little disappointed with how little steak it came with. Although the steak it did come with quite good. The calamari we ordered as an appetizer was the best part of the meal. Overall just average. Nothing was super good but it wasn’t awful either. It’s whatever

Brunch specials. $ 5 Mimosa’s and $ 6 bloody Mary’s The eggs had zero flavor and the omelette was sub par. I would have given this place 2 stars but they have some nice outdoor seating and cheap drink specials for brunch.
