I was invited to an event hosted by the boutique. It was a bloggers brunch. The owner, Domencia, was a delight! We were treated to small bites and bottomless mimosas. It was my first time at the store and I was really impressed. Lots of great contemporary and vintage pieces to choose from. Lots of designer items. Great shoes collection. I’m an accessory queen, so seeing the jewelry boxes stashed with one of a kind pieces made my afternoon. Clothing sizes range from S-XL. There’s a fitting room, which is a plus. And, honestly, despite the size, The Chic Shack feels warm, inviting but very girly. You can’t help but smile at all of the fashion posters and art surrounding the room. I’ll definitely be back.

I tried to call multiple times to make an appointment to bring in my stuff, but they never answer the phone. Most recently, I couldn’t even leave a message because the voicemail is full. This is definitely not a way to get business.

I got to give credit to the young at heart making their mark in the fashion arena. The Chic Shack(CS) is located on H Street, NE in a row-house establishment in the upper level. CS has just enough clothes on display to navigate your way from room to room, and It’s not overwhelming and you can literally see everything CS has to offer within 15 – 20 minutes. I was curious as I always am to see what vintage items are on display and mainly, what I might possibly can find. Making my way from room to room, I wouldn’t exactly say the CS carries all vintage but there are pieces mixed with delicately-used retail designer pieces and in another room there’s a rack solely displaying vintage clothes; more 80’s style from what I saw. Nothing caught my eye on that rack but very colorful pieces I must say. I often bypass the retail designer labels cause I can always buy designer and it’s everywhere, but it’s vintage that I want. In the main room where you check out, I went over to a rack that had some pretty unique pieces; the sales associate informed me there were some vintage pieces mixed in. I wasn’t anticipating finding anything considering how small the boutique is… and then I saw them; a slightly flair-legged multi-colored/retro pair of pants(linen blend). Never worn so they appear and the label reads«Christenfeld of California.» Talk about gorgeous and so me; the associate confirmed they were vintage and I could tell. SOLD to the Vintage Diva for a cool $ 65. I felt like I purchased the best vintage item in the boutique; these pants were waiting to be found and luckily for me, we found each other.

The seemed like a well-liked little consignment store. There are two tiny rooms of vintage and non-vintage women’s clothes and purses, with a few pairs of shoes and other accessories, all at what seemed to be excellent prices. It didn’t appear to be a particularly large selection — constrained by the floor space — but there was a decent variety. The members of the staff are lively, fun, welcoming, helpful, and patient, and are very knowledgeable about what’s on their racks at any given time. {For the record, I was accompanying a female friend who was shopping, and I confirmed these observations with her. :-) }

If you’re looking for a familiar face and some designer duds The Chic Shack is definitely the place. I’ve been going every weekend and I can;t walk out the store without at least trying something on, trust me, I’ve tried. The store is a small cut out into a different time. You can find a 1960’s full body jumpsuit alongside a more modern harem pant and J Crew blazer. I know I’ll always leave with a one of a kind piece when finished at The Chic Shack. I’ve never seen an owner as hands on as Domencia the store staff goes above and beyond to make sure your shopping experience is as rewarding as possible. I’ll def be back again! =)

Like I said in my tip: fake, expensive bag. Not cool & I won’t be back. Other than that, great store and nice owners

Finally, vintage on H St that is open at semi-regular hours on the weekend! I stumbled into the Chic Shack after a boozy brunch at RnR Hotel, and was pleasantly surprised with their selection and affordable prices! They had a number of cute vintage pieces, as well as some contemporary designer items. They could use a bit more product, and definitely some more exposure, but I have to imagine that they are still getting things sorted out. The décor was adorable, and I’ll definitely be back!
