This is my go to place for breakfast and sometimes for dinner. My dinner here on Sunday night January 31, 2016 was good as far as food is concern. We just grabbed a couple of burger. However, I was concerned about an health and safety issue. A table close to us broken a plate — a child broken it, there were pieces of broken pieces scattered on the floor and under that table. It is astonishing that the couple and their friends would not say anything or do anything even when they have a(looks like) less than 2 year’s old playing on the ground. For me, if anyone — regardless of server or client slipped and cut themselves — that is a law suit in the making. A bus girl walked pass it and looked at the broken pieces and walked by again, time and time again, staff walked passed the broken pieces and done nothing. Seriously, please clean up broken china on the floor. Or I will have to report it as an health and safety issue.

We came here as a happy accident. We wanted to kill time waiting for a food wait list and wanted a café. This place has a dining area and a lounge. We have gone to the lounge twice. The drinks are average but their non entrée dishes are really unique and taste good. The atmosphere is the best part. Chairs or couches and plenty of outlets. Great place to study.

The lavender hot chocolate is awe-mazing! The touch of lavender makes the hot chocolate surprisingly pleasant without crossing the line to overly fragrant. The lemon snickerdoodle cookie is also awe-mazing, but in a bad way. It tastes purely like lemon, with none of the sugary, cinnamon-y goodness that we all know to be traits of the snickerdoodle. Trust in me. Stick to the lavender hot chocolate and avoid the lying snickerdoodle cookie.

I went here a couple of times with a friend to study. Although this is a restaurant, they do have a coffee lounge area similar to what Busboys and Poets has. This place is owned by the same group that owns Tryst in Adams Morgan. For those who want to venture out a little bit further in the city, this place is worth it because unlike Tryst with low-level lighting, there’s plenty of illumination and good seating. We tried their tea and coffee as well as their crunchy brussel sprouts, which were quite good. This is definitely conducive to studying.

Came here for a late lunch as a group of four and were seated within a few minutes. The vibe is really nice – casual, family-friendly. There’s a menu that’s big but not too big, and a little something for everyone. I ordered a chopped salad, eager for that bowl of bright colors to make its way to me. I was unfortunately disappointed with the meal set down in front of me, but didn’t think on it as I got caught up in conversation. Only on the last bite I thought, «Hmm, this was missing hard-boiled egg. I remember seeing that on the menu.» I then compared what I got to the menu and was shocked to see that I was given a totally different salad. And nothing on the menu either. What I ordered had:(1) lettuces,(2) chicken,(3) cherry tomatoes,(4) cucumber,(5) hard boiled egg,(6) shaved manchego,(7) sourdough croutons,(8) olive oil and vinegar on the side. What I got had:(1) lettuces and(2) chicken. Nothing from what I’ve listed above as(3) through(8). The only other thing: a little cup of lemon juice and a little cup of oil. This is just so odd to me. What I got doesn’t match anything on their menu. And it’s not like the place was out of one item. We’re talking 8 items wrong here. I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it and, of course, I’d eaten the entire thing already. The more I think about it, though, the weirder I think it is. Plus I paid for the salad I ordered, which has many more ingredients than the one I ate. This feels like a weird rant. I guess I just wasn’t impressed and wouldn’t be eager to go back. My husband felt the same; he ordered the Hash Brown Bowl and it looked to be about half the size we expected(he even finished eating twice as soon as the rest of us).

I’ve been here at least 5 or 6 times over the course of 2 years and have never enjoyed a meal here. Not a single time. From consistently burnt, dry fried chicken to long waits for cold meals or just simply underwhelming flavor and quality for the price, their food never fails to disappoint. The atmosphere is good, coffee options acceptable and beer selections meet expectations. If you need a place to camp out and do some work, it’s well suited with plenty of seating and probably your best option this side of 14th St.

If you’re looking to add to your list of DC brunch spots, you’ll want to check out The Coupe. I visited on a lovely summer day and opted for a seat on the patio. It was quite busy, it being a Saturday. I was greeted by two friendly hosts and given a pager/buzzer. We did not have to wait long to be seated. Although I was sitting on the patio I got a good look indoors. Comfortable group seating — great for groups, large or small. The menu had typical American brunch fare. I decided on the chicken and waffles(was on a real c&w kick last year). It was okay. Wouldn’t rave about it but it was decent. The chicken wasn’t flavourful but had great crisp. The waffles were plain — no savour added, nor all that sweet. Prices were within line one would pay in Columbia Heights for brunch. Service was good. Our server was friendly and helpful. She was quite busy as we didn’t see her often. All in all, great location, great atmosphere. Menu could have been a tad more diverse but overall a very nice brunch spot.

I’ve been here a few times with my boyfriend for drinks, coffee, breakfast and dinner. It’s between a ¾ star experience. Biggest plus about this place is that it is HUGE, divided into a restaurant/coffee shop/bar vibe with a few big tables for groups. The fried apple pie here is to die for as well – my favorite thing on the menu! Drinks are OK here, they tend to be on the boozy/strong side. We ordered a Georgia Comfort and it came pre-mixed(?) in a little vial that was poured into our glass. Not sure what that’s about, but it was kind of surprising. Most of the drink menu is identical to Tryst, Open City, etc. since they have the same operators. Coffee – this is a great spot to come and catch up with friends over a cup of coffee. More quiet and spacious than Tryst, but with the same chill ambiance. Coffee and espresso drinks are solid and they give you animal crackers! Food is good, but more expensive than you’d expect for a diner/coffee shop vibe. Our first two meals here were great, but we were just here last week and the food was pretty lackluster. The burger is GREAT, probably one of the best deals here. Breakfast is solid as well, but again, a bit pricey. My boyfriend and I LOVE the Lamb Hash off the breakfast menu! From the menu(seasonal), I’ve had most of the appetizers, which are good too, but the meat ones(pork belly, octopus, etc.) are tiny. For entrees, I’ve also ordered the potato gnocchi(delicious!) and most recently, the Nashville«Hot Chicken»(disappointing, too dry and sides were waaaay underdone).

This Neighborhood favorite revived my LIFE today. I have been wanting to try it but had a bunch of other brunch spots on the list ahead of it. Shame on me for waiting so long. Hostess=Friendly, Waitress=friendly, and on point(cute haircut too), FOOD=Delightful! I also had a «hibiscus». Champagne+Cranberry Juice. Not on the menu. Just asked! Ok that is all!!! Hope to go back for dinner before I leave this week!

I love the coupe and eat/drink there regularly. Maxwell, the GM, is very attentive and there regularly to say hello. The baristas are great and make excellent iced lattes and very quickly. Gwynne is my go-to on at least a weekly basis, and she always asks about my dog too. Great people. Don’t miss the great happy hour prices on apps and drinks. The food is great as well. Breakfast is the best part. Hash brown bowls and pancakes are my favorite. Pro tip– order pancakes and get one of each kind.

The Coupe is one of my favorite restaurants! I’m always here — brunch, dinner, late night — you name it. It’s a mix of a diner, bar and coffee shop feel with AWESOME food. Sometimes the wait can be long but it’s totally worth it. It’s great with groups, family or on a date. I love the Kale Caesar, egg-white omelet, mac n cheese, chicken burger and of course the coffee. Most recently, for dinner, I had the chimichurri steak with carrot cake and it was to die for. Prices are great but it’s that neighborhood vibe that makes it extra special. Highly recommended!

Trendy breakfast spot + pub is divided into zones – one side has family-friendly table service including big booths, the other has couch settings for a living room vibe, and another sports long stretches of coffee bar with extra outlets for laptop sitters. Long sunny windows, clinking dishes and a friendly staff give The Coupe a happy mood. Caffeine options here are coffee-shop level(Kalita wave pour-over for single origins, full barista) but food menu and options are a full sit-down restaurant, but this is equally a good spot to to camp and work or to come by with a group for brunch. Service can be a bit uneven – most staff are friendly, but I’ve often found the pace to be really slow or somewhat forgetful. The zones can create some some service confusion – sometimes the couch zone you order at the counter, and other times they have a server that comes to you.

I really enjoy the atmosphere of The Coupe, and it’s been enough to bring me and my friends back several times. There is a comforting designated area for studying/reading/working, as well as plentiful space to dine in. The restaurant is lined with nice, huge windows which allows great lighting in and contributes to how open the restaurant feels. I have also enjoyed the meals I’ve had at The Coupe, including the fried chicken sandwich, the chicken salad sandwich, the breakfast scramble, and the mushroom reuben. All of the meals have been satisfying. If you enjoy hash browns, try one as a side — it’s so good!

I have clearly been to the Coupe too many times now to not have written a review. But at the same time, what would I say that hasn’t already been said? For the neighborhood, the Coupe plays the perfect role of casual coffee house, full service breakfast/lunch/dinner menu, and then bar for the late night crowd. The place really does have something for everything. And for me, my wife and I enjoy the outdoor patio where we can take our pup out for a dinner or occasional brunch. Of all the meals I’ve had now, I’d say the Coupe fries and fried chicken are probably my go-to dishes. Overall, you won’t be taken on a culinary journey or explore taste buds you never knew you had. But you will have solid service and good food. And consistently good is a pretty food lane for any restaurant.

The Coupe seems to have a bit of an identity crisis, but in a great way. It’s partially restaurant, partially coffee shop, partially bakery, partially communal work space. But altogether, it works. I came to the Coupe with a friend for brunch a few weekends ago. It’s a nice corner place in the neighborhood, and we had no wait to get seated. We had a very friendly waiter who came by quickly to take our drink orders. I got a coffee, which came with a little saucer of 2 animal crackers– so cute! I ordered the seasonal omelette, which had squash, red onions, gouda, and some other delicious stuff. It came with perfect brunch potatoes and an english muffin. While I loved my omelette, I did experience immediate buyer’s remorse, upon seeing the lamb hash just too late after ordering. Next time, I suppose. The food came out quickly, and it was all very tasty. Their breakfast potatoes are more of a potato cake, shaped into a brick of potato. I’m sure there’s a much better and more appetizing way to describe it, but oh well. It was delicious– crunchy, potato-ey, and hearty. I’d love to come back to the Coupe and try that lamb hash. My only complaint is that refills on coffee aren’t free.

I came here for the first time today for brunch. I ordered the eggs two ways and had the gf muffin. The hash brown was delicious, crispy and not oily. The muffin was tasty as well, perfect amount of sweetness with the maple syrup. My partner had the hash brown bowl, which i wish I got instead. I loved the jalapeños. He also got a latte which was strong and crafted really well. I wish I got the mango cardamom or hot chocolate lavender drink since it seems like they do all their drinks well. Also, I’ll next time I’ll definitely be getting the siracha chicken wings and rosemary fries!

It’s all about brunch at The Coupe… if you’re willing to put up with the long wait. We waited about 40 minutes for a table to open up, which sounds ridiculous, but it’s something you should expect during peak brunch hours. Thankfully, they have a little coffee bar(with a large delicious menu) right in front so you don’t have to wait for your morning fix. My friend who took me here is obsessed with this place, and I now know why. He raved about their great breakfast and lunch selections — including the hash brown bowl. I decided to order a classic egg white western omelette with toast(always trying to make decently healthy choices here) and obviously my friend got the hash brown bowl. Oh gosh, were they both so good… Mine even came with hash browns(in a brick. so different), so I didn’t have to dwell not ordering a bowl of it. Other than that — I must say, I despised those customers who sat around outside for hours on end, hanging out or doing work, while the rest of us wait nearly an hour for an open table to eat a meal. It was annoying, but it’s not the restaurant’s fault. Overall, this place is a classic brunch spot. The atmosphere is chic and cozy, as if you were having brunch in your kitchen. The service is nice and accommodating, which I respect in such a crazy busy environment. I like a place that knows how to keep their cool under pressure.

Went to The Coupe for brunch with a couple friends. When we got there, there was about a 30 – 45 minute wait. My friend was surprised as the time she had gone previously she said she had gotten right in. We didn’t realize that earlier in the morning they had had a reading event for children. My friend and I got bloody mary’s. They were spicy and good! But it took a while for them to come out as they said the bar was«backed up.» It’s brunch, this isn’t a nightclub. How backed up can the bar be? For an appetizer we got the coupe fries. I would say it’s their take on poutine. I didn’t care for the short ribs on the fries — but I like the other cheese curds and gravy. I got the eggs benedict. The hollandaise sauce was pretty blah and bland. It hardly had any flavor. One of my friends got a turkey burger with an egg on it. She wasn’t blown away with that either. Our other friend got the chicken and waffles. He was surprised that the chicken had a bone in it. I guess he was expecting more like chicken fingers. Anyways, he said the chicken was overcooked and waffle was okay. Our waitress was nice, but she was pretty slow. It was busy, but there were a few times she walked right by us without checking in. The only time she paid us any real attention was when it was time to pay the bill. Love those servers who it takes them 10 minutes to come back after dropping off your drinks but are back in 1 minute after they drop off the bill. The space and vibe of the coupe is pretty cool. I like the space but the food and service was mediocre.

Brunch is the new black. After having wanted to go to this spot for YEARS, I finally convinced my friend to come here with me for brunch after our swim session a few Sundays ago. I instantly fell in love with the vibe. We got there after the brunch rush, around 2 pm, so there was plenty of seating outdoors. We grabbed a seat and ordered. I ordered the Coupe Special — two scrambled eggs, crispy bacon(I like my BURNT), French toast, hashbrowns, and wheat toast. I also ordered a hibiscus mimosa. YUMMO. My friend and I were able to eat and talk at our leisure, and we didn’t feel like we were being rushed. Major brownie points! The one con I would mention is that our server was a bit… different. He seemed out of it. We laughed it off at first, but after a while it became very off-putting.
