The Mighty Pint

I’ve been here many times for their Monday Trivia night, and I’ve always had a good time.
Fellow Pennsylvanians take heed — this is a (mostly western) Pennsylvania bar through and through, and a great place to spend a Saturday watching Penn State or a Sunday watching the Steelers (Philly fans can go next door to the Philadelphia sports bar Sign of the Whale). They offer on their menu a variety of pierogie options as well (the Pulled Pork ones are the best). Their nachos are a little lame but they serve a solid plate of loaded tater tots. There is a wide selection of beer and an upstairs and downstairs bar.
Trivia starts at 7PM, and if you bring a couple of smart people with you, it’s almost guaranteed you will do well — the questions are difficult but not impossible. Trivia takes about two hours to complete and there are specials that start at 8PM.
The decoration is what you expect — deer heads and Steelers stuff on the walls. The place is small and divey, but is very well maintained and not dirty. Overall, it’s a great bar with good food options and Steelers-​PSU specials on gameday.

This place has THE best happy hour in all of DC… and in Dupont no less! Happy hour runs 11 – 7, and other random times (such as late on a weekday). Happy hour includes cocktails, as well as all of the draft beer, to include 3.00 Guiness pints. The food is typical reasonably priced barfare, though with a bit of a Steelers bar/​Pittsburgh twist.
Not fancy by any stretch of the imagination, but if you’re looking for a place to do some heavy drinking on the cheap, you can’t really do better in DC.

Great place to bring friends but it can get a bit packed from time to time. It’s your typical fratastic bar. Come here blacked out or you might want to leave right when you walk in. But, if you’re lucky enough to get a table or a seat by the door, stay as long as you please because it will at least be tolerable.

Meh… it’s okay. I stopped here for a pint after dinner. It was quiet, and the two bartenders were friendly. I grabbed a Guinness, on happy hour, and it was like…$ 3? My god…$ 3 here is unheard of.
The Guinness was fine. Wasn’t poured right, and wasn’t overly delicious, but for $ 3 I’ll take it. I didn’t try anything else, nor did I have food. I would stop back here for a pint or two during happy hour, but they don’t have much on tap — Yuengling, Guinness, Sam Adams Seasonal and Miller Lite was it.
I’m really sick of all these «dive bars» in DC. My gosh, people… you need to learn what a dive bar is. This isn’t one.

Dropped in a Tuesday night, and it had a nice atmosphere

Came here for their happy hour, which had $ 3 tap drinks and a limited $ 5 food menu, consisting of appetizers such as nachos (have to pay extra for cheese though or chili… odd), deep fried oreos, grilled cheese, and chicken wings (6 per order).
I ordered from the non-​hh menu cause them loaded tator tots were calling my name. Fresh and hot out the kitchen, smothered in cheese, bacon, green onion, and finished with a healthy dollup of sour cream! I was very pleased. And so were my taste buds and stomach.
Washed those tots down with a $ 3 beer on tap. Check their website for additional daily specials!
Interior feels like a sports bar — there’s a quieter section a few steps up if you go to the back with some seating and a separate bar there if you want a less crowded space.

Well — it’s a bar — and it has pretty cheap beer.
I did not have anything on draft but my husband was drinking Yuengling and said the taps tasted dirty.
We had some wings buffalo style — they were okay, and at least they were big wings, which made the $ 10 price tag for 12 wings (in this establishment) a bit more understandable.
Our bartender gentleman was nice enough and attentive.

For a bar it’s fine. The bartender was nice & accommodating. What the bartender can’t overcome though is the laissez faire attitude in the kitchen.
I had the mighty pint burger just as it came.
Unfortunately it came with an almost completely raw egg on top. I sent it back because it also came with the wrong side. What I got back was the same egg with some of the raw part scraped off.
So if I get food poisoning or salmonella… I’ll know from whence it came. (I didn’t send it back again because we all know that raw egg white would become something much worse.
Oh yea… & if you sit in the very front booth don’t sit under the hole in the ceiling because water drips out of it & you will be unpleasantly surprised.
p. s. no sink in the men’s bathroom per my sweetie.
Does DC not have health inspections at restaurants? I’m guessing not.
If you are ok with all of this, then no worries.

I won’t give the place a 1 star based on the fact that my favorite bartender left my favorite bar and came to work here. I will will tell you in detail why it was bumped up to a 3… And I am being very generous in that 3, as it should be a mid 2, but I enjoy the upper level a little… So here goes it!!!
Greeted at the door by some muscle that isn’t always very nice… I was denied entrance after having 3 drinks at a neighboring watering hole because I wasn’t wearing my shoes (they were very high heels that hurt and I gave my toes a 30 second breather before the nasty bar floor) where the door man said I was drunk… Then accused me of lying when I said I personally knew the GM of said prior watering hole and his best bartender.
He had to bring bartender to the door the «vouch» for me to even let me in… After I wait for my bestie to pull him off his duty due to Muscle Maniac…
We enter to blasting rap music, college kids that are way more wasted than I could consider healthy, (even though by end of night I would show them up by far…) forget getting to a bar to get a drink! But we were headed up stairs anyway…
It was a bit better up there, my neighborly bartender was doing some tricks behind the bar and chillin’ with us till close…
So not my best place to go but the bartender is oh so hot & very «Hugh Jackman”-like

It’s a small bar to say the least. Bartenders are rude, common for DC. We didn’t go for happy hour, so the drinks were expensive. We didn’t try any of the food.
Might have to try this place again for happy hour.

I came here in October of 2012 and had a bad experience. False advertisements. They had a sign outside saying half price appetizers from 4 – 8 so when I walked in and ordered, Kate B (the bartender) tells me nothing is half off. Why have a sign outside if nothing is half off? I didn’t understand that. I spoke to a manager and she was rude and unapologetic. If you want a great experience, go next door to Sign of the Whale.

The Might Pint adventure started a bit rough, but ended happily.
The Hubs and I ventured in after the National’s game. Despite the fact that there were only four of us at the bar (and the other two worked there) and there were no less than three bartenders behind the bar (and at times five or six), it took FOREVER to get waited on. We actually heard one of the bartenders say, «And this is why our bar is empty…» I didn’t hear the rest of the conversation, but my husband and I got a kick out of it since we were thinking the same thing. Fortunately, we were in no hurry and the televisions kept our attention.
We got our first beer quickly but couldn’t place an order for food until the first one was long empty and we were ready for round two. Finally we were able to order Irish Nachos. Typical bar food covered in cheese. Perfection!
We ended up sticking around about 5 or 6 hours. I spent $ 15 on the jukebox until the dj took over and ended my fun (before my songs were finished playing by the by). The crowd definitely got thicker making my beerly potty runs up the stairs and through the second bar none to fun. The hubs and I ordered a Stuffed Spud and Porkie Fries at the back end of our stay (I know-​starch city). Both were fantastic and covered with toppings.
All in all we had a nice time and the Blackhawk’s won. Whoot!

I won’t give this place only one star– the bartenders were nice and the glassware was clean, but… the place was dark, the floor was sticky, the bass [on music I can’t stand] was cranked so high it made me nauseous, and there wasn’t a thing on the menu [food or drink] that I actually wanted. I sipped water long enough for my friends to have their Guinness and blue motorcycle, respectively, then bolted.
It was disappointing since from the name and the outside I expected something pubby.

I’ve always had a good time at the Mighty Pint, but it’s never the first place I think of when I’m on this side of town. It’s narrow, in a basement, and has way too many stairs for the kind of debauchery it engenders.
Drinks are cheap, the staff is super friendly, and the food is typical bar food. Overall, not a bad spot. Make sure to enter their happy hour contest (I had a coworker win $ 500, and I won a happy hour with hour free rails and drafts).

Their specials are constantly changing, but they basically always have some sort of special on every day of the week. They have HH Mon to Fri 11am –8pm. Notable specials after 8pm include $ 10 beer buckets at Monday trivia,$ 2 Yuengling drafts on Tuesdays after 8, $ 2 16oz PBR tallboys on Wednesdays, and flip night on Thursdays.

basement bar, dark, grungy, sticky, reeks of alcohol but the staff is awesome, hospitable and knows their shit, so if I go, they are the reason. Ask Kate for a browning BOMB! Jäger and gingerale.

Call me a happy hour snob, but you know what kills me?.. a bar that advertises «$ 5 Yuengling specials during happy hour!» as if that’s a good deal.
Mighty Pint to the rescue!
You know, for a place called «The Mighty Pint» isn’t it kind of strange there are only 4 beers on tap? Then again, Might Pint is one of the few (the only?) bars downtown that has a happy hour actually deserving of that name.
Let’s face it, Mighty Pint doesn’t have many redeeming qualities beyond the fact that I can drink decent (not great) beer for a price that doesn’t make me mumble nasty things about DC under my breath. But as long as they’ve got that going, they’ve got me as a customer.

My first question when finding out about this place was: what is a dive bar?! am i going to be expected to show up in my swimsuit, is there water involved? do we have to «dive» in order to get drinks? I was confused. So, let’s clear that up first! A dive bar is (for those that don’t know, obviously i’m an amateur): is a type of bar that constitutes an informal and relaxed environment. Also, known as your friendly neighborhood bar :)
I first walked into this cozy bar and there was a blast of people! I immediately approved of the environment. There are 2 floors to the bar and on each night there is a different special. I happen to make my way there for the Thursday Flip Nights (great idea by the way). All I have tried was the gin lemonade, but I can tell they make drinks fairly well and come at a reasonable price. If you are looking for a down to earth place with a good ambiance, inexpensive drinks, and good music — well you found the place! Check it out if you are in the area :)

I came to The Mighty Pint after reading the Unilocal reviews, and I had to come give the place some love.
It’s true that it’s a dive — small, dark, and chill atmosphere. At first, I didn’t think there was anything to set it apart from any other dive, but take a look at those happy hour deals! When I went a few weeks ago, $ 1 slices on Thursdays along with the coin flip for free drinks. And Wednesdays have $ 3 drafts, even for Guinness! I’m a big Guinness fan and always feel discriminated against when bars leave it off their happy hour menus. You really can’t beat that, and they have plenty of TVs there to catch whatever games are going on.
And once you’ve pounded back a few (or several), if you want to liven up your night, this place is a short walk from the Dupont clubs. If you do stay here all night, you’re a minute from the Dupont Metro, as well.
Plus, I have to throw in here — a few reviews have mentioned that the beer selection is basic, and while you’re not going to be blown away by variety here, a nondescript dive offering Sierra Nevada, Dogfish Head IPA, Shiner Bock, Purple Haze, and a handful of local micro brews doesn’t come along very often. I was pleasantly surprised.

I don’t know how this place makes money.
This place has so many great memories of my adventures in DC. All the Californians are here every single day of the week winning happy hour, drinking all their booze, and leaving no names. Free booze for up to 25 people? count me in! And believe me, those rail drinks and beers add up in the «how much booze can we drink in one hour?!» game.
Other than their great happy hour, they are a typical dive bar, full of dirty, broken, smelly awesomeness. There’s music on weekends, and no cover.
Happy hour times here will always live in on my memories. It also doesn’t help that their advertisements pop up on every website I go to now…

The Mighty Pint, true to its name, is a cramped, basement dive that serves up a big-​hearted, good-​ass, low-​brow time. I recently spent the better portion of a Saturday (binge) drinking here, posted up with some friends in the front alcove of the establishment, watching the line outside feeding a packed house rotate groups of beer-​poundin’ bros after beer-​poundin’ bros and bench-​dancin’ babes after bench-​dancin’ babes. As you might expect, this is a joint filled wall-​to-​wall with mostly post-​college patrons, that early-​20s demographic whose livers are still their friends. Bastards.
While the drink selection is pretty nominal, the cheap prices and constant flow of specials is nothing at which to turn your nose up. Plus, you don’t come here to sample strange craft beers or sip on award-​winning cocktail creations. You’re here to pound booze and act a fool. Even with a sea of thirsty young professionals crawling over the bar for a fix, the staff manages to keep up with the demand in a timely manner. And as with most debaucherous, I-can-still-party-like-I’m-in-college bars, it’s a Penn State joint, to boot! As an alum, that’s a personal bonus right there.
If you dare venture deeper into the mob (or inevitably have to break the seal and make your way towards the bathrooms in the back), there is a second bar on a second floor or sorts, a several-​step ascent back to ground level. If you’re lookin’ for real estate, however, chances are this area is just as packed.
Meanwhile, the music is hit or miss. No idea where it’s coming from, but I’d have to assume it’s nothing more than a bartender’s iPod on shuffle. And even if it’s a current iTunes chart-​topper that would normally get the place goin’, only those girls grindin’ atop the aforementioned wall benches have the room to get down. Not that I have a problem with that, I’m just making a point.
All in all, The Mighty Pint can be mighty fun, but you better bring your drinking stamina, as well as a general tolerance of people and large crowds. Claustrophobes, aristocrats, beer snobs, and Debbie Downers need not apply.
