Despite working in the neighborhood for some years, I never knew this place existed. While it’s no revelation(and service is iffy) the food actually seems pretty good. It’s out of the way and nearly empty most of the time at lunch and dinner. Not worthy of a special trip or anything close to it but burgers and crab cakes are good and the atmosphere is quiet. A good out-of-the way place for a meeting or a quick bite. Prices(nothing over $ 20) are pretty reasonable for the neighborhood. Worth checking out for cocktails as well.

Great little gem you’d never know about. Dark, wooden, and cool. Comfortable and plush.

Thank God for the Tavern! Friends were staying at Henley Park… and we were all at Convention across street — Great breakfasts and only place for lunch… walk across from convention center and have some fresh food! French press coffee, great omelets, fresh salads — A GEM!

Really glad we found this little hidden gem! We were expecting pub food, but it is sooooo much more! Great salad and clearly homemade dressing. The beet salad looked amazing, but I think beets taste like dirt, so I didn’t have them! I had the eggplant stack which was delicious. Cozy bar area, too. Service was phenomenal. We had Sijan, pronounced See-zan, an awesome Nepali young guy. Ask for him! He was wonderful and interesting to talk to. Don’t miss this place!

Not being from Washington I did not realize the importance of a reservation! Walked in at 7:45, lots of open tables, was asked if we had a reservation, no we did not. We were asked to wait in the bar, after 10 minutes with no one coming near us, I went to my Unilocal App, made an 8:00 reservation and were seated with in minutes REALLY??! Food was very good, service was slow, lots of old world charm. Quiet after a long day at the Convention Center.

I like the food it was great and we got right in. This place was perfect for us. Would eat there again it’s not the best place in the world but was very serviceable. We are staying at the hotel and this made it easy. Not all hotel restaurants are that great and this one was. We will eat there again for sure.

Like Unilocal says for 3 stars — it’s a-ok. Been here a couple times, and it is a nice bar to unwind at for an HH or after a long day, but not necessarily a place is trek to to check out immediately. Cute décor, vintage feeling, and friendly staff, but it always feels like something is missing from the vibe… Martinis are great, but the beer is bottles only. HH appetizers are alright though the food value for price ratio is a bit off, even for DC. If you’re in the area, give the bar try, but I wouldn’t make too much more effort than that…

I had a late breakfast here on a Monday morning. I had a crêpe that was delicious and the service was great. The ambiance is posh and classy and the dining room has a beautiful skylight.

This is about the bar, but I hear that the food is good. Nice place to unwind after a humid day wandering the city. The bartenders are friendly without being overly«helpful» and the prices are reasonable. You’ll meet people here – that’s the set up – so if that’s a bad thing reconsider your priorities:)

I lodged here for a convention and had a marvelous lunch here. I ordered the muscles with garlic bread, and the Tavern salad with crab cake. The muscles were fresh and tasty, but the garlic bread and all the bread in house were so good that I ate more carb than I would normally allowed myself too: p The salad had a nice spring mix, the onions were lighted sautéed, the salad was well tossed with just enough dressing. The crab was a large portion. It was just perfect! The waitress was attentive.

Review for the Blue Bar only: My roommate and I found this place randomly after a show. Saw the décor first through a window and it looked very English victorian, fascinating. On a dark and rainy night, it looked like the perfect invitation to come in and stay a while. The Blue Bar at Couer De Lion is beautiful. Dark, rich accents, plush furniture, and and at night, dim but not totally dark lighting. It is intimate, very speakeasy-style but not annoying. Classic instead of trendy. Excellent barservice. The wine is very good and the appetizers are equally tasty. Feeling classy or want to? Stop by the Blue Bar.

Food was good and I very much like the ambiance. The service was a bit slow, unmotivated, and impersonal. It’s a nice low key quiet night for sure. I think I would have enjoyed it more as a place to go when dining alone or one other person. We were a group of five, and there was just very little energy to the place. That is sort of part of te charm, but like I said, more for a romantic two person dinner or sitting alone eating with a book.

Horrible service. We were the only other party in the restaurant, yet waited 16 minutes for the waiter. We ordered drinks and left.

As a group of 2 couples in our early-mid twenties, we were expecting an elegant and nice dinner on the town. Unfortunately, the food looked good on the restaurant week menu but was quite average on taste. The only thing that was delicious was the strawberry spinach salad with pine nuts. The server was rude and didn’t say a word to us except to ask«Ready to order?». He constantly reached over all of our plates to serve or retrieve a dish from another person at the table, almost touching my food with his sleeve. It was a table of 4 and not that difficult to manuever. It would have been easy to walk around to each person. He wasn’t friendly at all and the food was just mediocre. I also called several times earlier that day to find out how much their corking fee was, but no one could ever answer that for me. So, needless to say, I would not return nor recommend to others.

The«Meh» really sums it up for me. My boyfriend and I just went here last night for an early Valentine’s dinner, and really only chose it based on the fact that he didn’t make reservations early enough and this was the only space on open table with any kind of reservation available. I thought this place was well designed/decorated with the atrium and brick walls, and provided a nice romantic ambiance. My favorite part was that the tables were pretty big and spread out, so you didn’t feel squished to the party next to you like in a lot of DC restaurants. However, my impression immediately went south shortly after we sat down. Our waiter was weird. The first thing out his mouth was, «have you decided yet?» I was kind of expecting an introduction, maybe some specials, and starting with a drink or appetizer order. Given that the host didn’t give us a wine menu, we asked for one and he brought it. Two minutes later, even though we were still pondering over the wine, he came back and asked if we had decided on food. Why would we order food before deciding on a wine? We asked him for a couple more minutes… Then, another couple minutes after that, the manager came by and asked if we «needed help» with the wine list. I’m unsure if he was just being friendly or if the waiter complained we were taking too long to order. Anyway, overall I guess the service was attentive enough, just seemed to lack any personality . The food was pretty good, but to me seems overpriced. I had the Mix and Grill which was enough food but didn’t seem to be worth $ 40. My bf had the tenderloin, and I can definitely say we’ve had much better beef for a lot less than $ 36. I don’t think we’ll be going back here for dinner. However, I would consider going back for the 3 course/bottomless champagne brunch.

I really dig this place. It’s off the beaten path and the building itself is a gem. Originally built as an apartment building in the 1920’s in what I can best describe as faux Tudor-Gothic, it is packed full of architectural detail(Check out some of the gargoyles on the exterior of the building). The lobby and bar/restaurant area have arches and stone doorways that give the impression of being in a church or a castle of some sort; that and the hunt prints definitely contribute to an English sort of feel going on here. Although I prefer the chrome plated bar, I have eaten in the restaurant a couple of times with its glass enclosed courtyard and exposed brick walls; it makes a romantic get away. I particularly recommend the lamb chops. But back to the bar, officially known as the«Blue Bar Cocktail Lounge». It’s got character, something lacking in most hotel bars. There’s a piano in one corner and it makes a great happy hour choice. The list of 16 bottled beers isn’t going to win any awards(Red Hook, Sierra Nevada, Stella, etc), but they do mix a fine martini here, and the atmosphere makes up for the shortfalls. PS They also serve afternoon tea, for those of you into that kind of thing.
